Quarterly Album

Just a couple thoughts on Quarterly after listening through it a couple times...

After listening to the album through a couple of times I have to say that it is an honestly good solid album, looking at it as a whole. The 2 main stand out tracks to me are "Since U Been Gone" and "Almost Famous (good beat and solid Jay-Z sample)." I like the way Ras goes in on the hipster and "beta male" rap. Silver Surfer Swagger is actually a really catchy song that probably has a broad appeal to different types of listeners. Quarterly features a wide range of songs from the soulful "L.A. Is My Lady" to "Take That Off" (which is definitely a song for the ladies, and that I'm sure most of you guys will skip). After listening the whole way through, Amazin, Reconciliation, Milli Vanilli, and Mike Jacks are still some of the top tracks on the album. I still would encourage you guys to download the full album tomorrow - you'll be able to download it at super high quality, not just low bitrate mp3s (so the audiophiles out there will be pleased). You're not gonna hear a Nature of the Threat 2 on this album, but like it or not, thats not what hes going for. But there are still tracks that the hardcore fans will dig (maybe still not the Aaron G track lol). Its looking like the download of the album will be a "chose your price format" and you can listen to all the tracks before you download the album. Support Ras Kass on this project cause I can guarantee you that the project that he is working on right now will please all you hardcore fans out there.

Get out and download it! - [EDIT] the link IS UP NOW!

The Soul On Ice era

Posted by mindgames (RKC Family) at Nov 20 2009, 07:56 AM. 12 comments

Soul On Ice (besides Illmatic) is my favorite hip hop record of all time; Ras attacks each track with a CRAZY out-of-control flow and lyrical content that blows my mind (Nature of the Threat).

But as much as I love Soul On Ice, it seems everything Ras recorded after it was...different. Rasassination didnt have that out-of-control flow, instead it sounded very basic, and even though the lyrics were still above average, they weren't very memorable. i've heard Revenge of the Spit, Rasassination and Van Gogh and I wasn't impressed with any of them very much at all. Without that crazy style he just sounds like any other emcee to me.

So I guess my question is: with all the additional records/mixtapes released after Soul On Ice, are there any where Ras sounds the way he did on Soul On Ice?
