The Final Session

The party hires on an Elven guide, and make their way to the borders of Averthran. There, they bluff their way past the border guards, making themselves seem a band of merchants. Under this guise, they head to Kaithwey, the capitol of the elven state. Upon arrival, they see the essembeled armies of the elven race, two hundred thousand warriors and rangers, backed by mages and even a wing of gold dragons.

The party heads to the High Tower, where they see the ancient Spirit Fire burning, a monument to the lost High Elves of yore. Upon arrival at the king's palace at the tower's base, they are told that King Daiadain Averthran expects them, and they quickly gain an audience. The king arrives alongside his advisor, Landalf the Black. The king denies any knowledge of Landalf's plots or the existance of the Dragonshields.

The negotiations prove futile, until Landalf suggests a recess. As they leave, the warlock reminds them that there are two things they do not yet know -- and one will be revealed at the top of the High Tower.

With no other leads, the party ascends to the highest reaches, where the Spirit Fire burns. There, they encounter Duke Alton Cawdor standing before the Spirit Fire. They confront him, and he reveals himself a traitor, the cause of the War of Chaos. He blames Lyrith's unsatisfactory leadership as the cause of his betrayal; but before he can berate them further, he is attacked and restrained by Senya and Kayden. They remove his sword Stormreaver from him, and prepare to remove him back to Haddrin when Irane announces that Landalf and Averthran approach with a squad of guardsmen and the sorceress Farawin, whom they encountered on Feather Mountain.

As Landalf approaches, Wulfrung steps into a magic-amplifying circle and casts his arcane sight into the Spirit Fire. Within, he sees a hellish version of our world, in which demons roam free as an army of High Elves -- clad in the gear of the Dragonsheilds -- stand ready for war.

Landalf confronts the party, and reveals that he needed the bloodshed that the War of Chaos brought in to power a ritual centered around the Hammyrne Staff and the eclipse. He now possesses enough power to bring the High Elf army into the mortal world from their hellish plane. With them, Landalf intends to enforce order and unity in Exania, preparing them from a coming threat he cannot name.

Thinking Landalf earnest in his proposal to protect Exania from a dark threat, Lyrith, Kayden, and Irane agree to join him and Averthran in bringing back the High Elven race. Wulfrung refuses, however, unable to trust the man who betrayed him. Alongside his undead minions, Serene Argone stands with him.

A great and lengthy debate takes place between the factions, even as Wulfrung hurls spells at his once-allies. As all hope seems lost for the necromancer, Talwyth, Mathis, and the Blackguard commandos assault the tower via the old battlements as Pegasus Knights and dragons engage in the sky above.

Talwyth comes to Wulfrung's aid, reminding the heroes that they do not need tyrannical elves and demons to defend themselves -- that all of Exania now stands united behind their banners. They have amassed the most powerful force in Exania's history to meet its greatest threat, and they have brought the world together, united in freedom rather than tyranny.

Swayed by his words and Wulfrung's, the other heroes return to their side. Even Averthran is convinced, and abandons his quest to oppose the warlock. Now alone, Landalf curses the heroes as fools, and combats them only briefly -- standing together, the party swiftly brings and end to his reign of terror as King Cairn and their remaining companions arrive.

Cairn salutes the party's wise decision, saying that they have united the world under a banner of freedom and friendship where Landalf demanded sacrifice and tyranny. Under their guidance, Exania has stood against the greatest threat in history, and triumphed.

Epilogue

Kayden & Sean Mathis
With Eastermark Province now without a lord or heir, Lyrith agrees to award it to her two staunchest allies throughout the crisis. Kayden and Mathis are married shortly before they take up their noble titles, and some months later, their daughter Kayl is born. Following this, Mathis founds a new order of knights specifically to combat rogue mages such as Landalf or Drazgul, a special forces group of knights and mages working hand in hand.

Lyrith & Cairn de Haddric
Following the War of Chaos, Lyrith was able to generate enough raw revenue to bring Haddrin into a new golden age, a reign of peace and prosperity throughout the realm. Nine months after war's end, she gave birth to the couple's second son, Prince Eddward de Haddric.

Argus Wulfrung
After the battle against Landalf, Talwyth pardoned all of Wulfrung's crimes and offered him a job in his court. At the same time, the necromancer went on to donate greatly to the Royal Academy at Dresgaard's school of magic, helping bring a new era of enlightenment to the young people even as the heroes' children began to attend.

---

Marie Argone
With her husband dead and her lands in ruins, Marie closed down the Amber Mansion and bought an estate in Dresgaard. Now privately wealthy, she was able to buy stock in the Bank of Haddrin, and eventually execute a hostile takeover. She later gave birth to her twins, Aerdrie and Soren II whislt her eldest, Talmen, grew up as the Crown Prince of Haddrin's best friend.

Millard & Irane Smith
After war's end, Millard returned to the north. There, he helped to restore order to the revolutionized country, and brought acceptance to the Fire Giants. He soon after married his lifelong friend Irane, and together they had two children, Sigrun and Bjorn.

Oricia & Duncan Talwyth
Talwyth executed a fast and hard political marriage between his daughter and the lord of Southwall, meant to strengthen ties between Heartland and Old Haddrin. It works to a degree, but to the two involved, it is a loveless marriage, and both end up keeping separate estates in their own provinces. They have a son, Royce, who is by rights heir to the Northguard and Southwall, the first born heir to titles in both countries.

Duke Richard Talwyth
Following the war, Duke Talwyth ruled in the Northguard for a short while longer, taking him well into old age. Finally, he opts to take a ship northbound to explore the uncharted sea. The expedition is never heard from again, and his lands pass quietly to his daughter Oricia, who proved to be very much like her father in rule. But by the turn of the century, it was almost beyond doubt that Royce Talwyth was the true power in the Northguard.

Vier & Shana de Chaunce
With his parents dead, Prince Vier ascends to the throne, but takes a passive role in his reign. In his place, the common-born Shana rules, helping to bring an end to the rampant corruption in Vaen, and begins restoring the old empire to its former glory. Though the new regime is harsh, it is just and fair, and soon prospers.

Marona Thanegeld
Marona helps guide Heartland into a new era under the Haddronian crown. However, soon after the war, her husband Zale passes away, and the duchess retreats from the public eye. In her place, her children -- Aidan, her eldest, and Kiera, the future Crown Princess of New Haddrin -- shine, becoming well beloved by the barbarians for their charisma and idealism both.

The Blackguard
Eventually, Mathis and the Founding Four were able to set up a training program at Kar-Thranor, and began to recruit the best and brightest from the ranks of the Royal Army. Soon after, the new and enlarged Blackguard were split into two distinct units, with the majority of them coming to work in a reorganized King's Special Service, commanded by the legendary Vindicore Bardel. The others, still loyal to their original commander, joined the new Order of the Blackened Sun under Lord-Commander Mathis.

The Order of the Blackened Sun
Also known as the Solar Knights, Lord-Commander Mathis formed a new knightly order to help control rogue wizards, so that events like the War of Chaos need never happen again. Operating as a knight-errant paired with a wizard, the young knights, called Brightstars by the common folk, greatly helped to ease the fears of Heartland as it began to accept magic users and other new cultures into their own.
