Some of the current bunch on the server have persuaded one guy to use his hacks so as to finish the race more quickly.

O_o

Just a thought, 20min races might be a leetle bit overkill. :)

I have always wondered why people dislike long races. After all, you will be doing the same thing, racing, on the next map aswell (unless it's dd), so why not just drive non-stop without voting and chaotic starts inbetween :)

Of course, not all people like all cars (GT), and many of the longer maps on RaFS tend to be GT :) But driving a whole Grand Rally while having at least visual contact with one or even two other people for the whole race is awesome. Or at least until you timeout..

Anyway, I think long maps are needed. For me they are a huge part of the RaFS.

They need more practice. Instead of whining about long maps and bad cars, use the time to practice and one day they might also be able to do that :D

Hm, I'm far from averse to "long" maps, it's just that the ones frequently constructed for such a purpose are just long straight stretches of road from one CP to the next. Shorter maps tend to have more variety to them, is all. :) Thus generally when 250 CPs loom, part of me goes "oh noes". :D

Of course after 100 CPs everyone's usually somewhat spaced out too, so there's little neck-and-neck racing or chance of catching someone up unless they do something spectacularly daft. :)

Ack, to each their own I guess!

for a long time when I played here I was not able to keep up with anyone on Grand Rally, but I used to enjoy starting 20cp after everyone else and just riding the curves... :) I was always happy just to finish it.

But I agree, Grand Rally is one of the things that makes RaFS RaFS, as much a part of it as the words "hiho" and "boob".

Long maps which are not challenging can be boring, but I love them - apart from the timeout issue...
Nobody with a good car needs to be justified.

I tried to make Grand Rally interesting though.

Doh, thought I'd answered this - it appears this is so only in my head. :D

I really like the Grand Rally maps! Even vote them in as they come around; they take a reasonable 10mins or so and are indeed quite enjoyable. :) In truth I think it's just one or two other maps that are 250 CPs and take a good 15mins+ of simply coasting round the major roads. I do like just spacing out and cruisin' round the roads but a little variety along the way is still good. :)

Just wanted to point it out in case a fair few were thinking "those really (non-Grand Rally) long maps are ridiculous!", but clearly even those find love here. :P Naturally I haven't come across them at all in the last week or so, so never mind. :D
