Previous Pages Finally Khaliid rode up, looking rather distant. Saithe worried about him, but he could do nothing. "Are you ready to go? I got some oats for the horses and cheese and bread for us." Saithe stared at him for a moment, wondering where he had come up with all this money. "I'm ready," he said calmly, and mounted his pony again. Khaliid reached his hand into his pocket, and Saithe heard the jingling of money. A lot of money, if Saithe was any judge at all. Where had the boy come up with all this money? He did not look like any rich person, but... For the first time, Saithe considered that the man could just be a common thief, or something of the like. Somehow, he wrenched his thoughts away from that line of thought. Whether he liked it or not, he was stuck with the boy until he regained possession of his body. With a great effort, he drove his small, inneffective heels into the pony's side to get it moving. She was used to his size, though, and felt the kick. Saithe remained silent as they rode out of the town, but when they had reached an empty road once again, he became restless. He wanted to speak, but he couldn't. Finally, they reached a fork in the road, and Saithe's pony hesitated. "Do you have anywhere in particular you are going?" he asked. "If you don't, I have a feeling we should go left." Oh, he did? Saithe was not aware of this feeling he supposedly had. Now that he mentioned it, he decided he had no wish to go left. Already his pony began to walk down the left fork. Khaliid: "Do you have anywhere in particular you are going? If you don't, I have a feeling we should go left." "I don't care. Anywhere but my..." Khallid faltered, grimacing, "...Home." He looked into Saithe's eyes. Khallid couldn't see his whole face but somewhere in the eye, that he could see, there was resentment. Burning resentment. What was wrong with Saithe? And why do I have tons of money in my pocket and a bag that is not mine? Why go left? More questions! Khallid let go of the reins and guided his horse with his knees. Slowly, so he wouldn't hurt himself, untied the skarf around his neck. The skarf was smuged with blood, he'll have to try to wash that out. I should have worn a red skarf instead of a lit brown. Khallid smilled and shook his head. He was going to have to remember NOT to turn his head! He carefully put his hand up to his neck. Serring pain met his head. Khallid gapped. It was hot! Like a pan that has been in the fire for too long. He touched right below the cut and normal skin temperature found his hand. Again he touched his scar and again he whipped his hand away. Khallid's skarf wasn't hot. What is going on? Saithe, money, left, right, amulet, and now heated cuts that don't make a stupid skarf even the littlist bit warm! Why must all this happen to him? He was a simpleton... that all the girls liked. Khallid glaired at a tree he was passing. It was the only thing he could get angery at and not get something that he didn't want. |

"I don't care," Khaliid said. "Anywhere but my... home." Saithe smiled silently. Why did Khaliid resent his home so much? Why was he fingering his scarf? He untied it, and then touched his neck, pulling back quickly. Saithe's brows did not furrow in confusion, though they would have. He could hardly trust this Khaliid, but apparently Khaliid could not trust him either. Or he should not. If only Saithe could warn him somehow... He was not even in control of his magic, he realized with a start. Did that mean that Blue-eyes had control over his magic as well? No! That could have disastrous consequences! They rode on, and Saithe itched for a relief from his constraints. He began to sweat after a time, from his efforts to do something to his body. He whooped silently in his mind. A small victory, it was, but it was a victory either way. He could make himself sweat. An hour or so past noon, he brought his horse to a stop. "We can eat here," he said. He glanced around, making sure no one was around. Why? Saithe felt the beginnings of panic. Why did he want to be alone? He began to take food out of his pack. After making a sandwich, and beginning to eat it, Saithe relaxed a little. He was acting normal - so far, anyway. Khaliid: Khaliid got down from his horse and tied the reins to a tree branch. Pulling the cheese out, Khaliid used his dagger to cut a slice of cheese off. The cheese that he got with the money that wasn't his. Khaliid munched on his cheese thoughtfully and put the dagger away. Something felt... wrong. Like something doesn't belong in the picture. But, what can't belong in this place. Khaliid realized that he was frowning at the dirt under his shoes. The dirt was cracked and broken into pieces. The frown came back. Khaliid squated down to look. It was in the middle of Spring and the dirt shouldn't be dry at all. Water and snow should have made the dirt moist not dry... Khaliid jumped up and at the same time said, "Saithe, I don't like it here at all. Let's eat and ride." He untied the horse's reins. "Here, catch." Khaliid threw the cheese to Saithe. He swung into the saddle and turned the horse around. The last thing that Khaliid remembered was blinking and then everything happened. |

Khaliid jumped up aabruptly and said, "Saithe, I don't like it here at all. Let's eat and ride. Here, catch." Instead of getting angry or attacking Khaliid, as he expected to, he shrugged and caught the cheese Khaliid tossed. Then, Khaliid mounted his horse and turned it away. That was when Saithe made his move. A gust of wind blew in a small place and knocked Khaliid off of his horse. It was a very strong blast, and it was done suddenly, so Saithe was exhausted the second after, but he ran to Khaliid anyway, feeling as if he had missed an opportunity. Khaliid was unconscious as expected, so Saithe spoke in a commanding tone. "You have no escape this time. I will kill you both. Slowly." He grinned, and did not gasp or scream or even vomit. It was Saithe's voice, but who wanted him dead, except for Blue-eyes? Apparently, he wanted Khaliid dead also. Why? he wanted to cry. Saithe had no idea what he was going to do nest, but for the moment, he seemeed content to wait for Khaliid to get up. The horses seemed very smart, for they had run away. Saithe took another step toward Khaliid so he stood at his head. Kill me, he pleaded. It was the only way to stop Blue-eyes. Kill me. Khaliid moaned, and Saithe drew his knife, brandishing it above Khaliid's heart. His arms were spread out, splayed across dry ground. If Khaliid tried to move at all, Saithe would kill him first. Saithe's body was stronger than Blue-eyes, though. He vomited, and it fell over Khaliid's body. As embarassed as he would normally be, he only felt euphoria, for he did have some control, however small it was. If only he could figure out how to use that to his advantage. "Come on, Khaliid, wake up," he purred. Surprisingly, Khaliid obeyed. He shifted and his eyes opened, only to see Saithe hovering above him with a knife to his chest. "Are you ready?" he asked, as if Khaliid would know what he was talking about. Perhaps he did though - Khaliid had met Blue-eyes. "Alive and then died. Died and then reborn to a second life only to die slowly and painfully in your family's arms." Saithe wondered at his words. What was that supposed to mean? Khaliid know, though, based on his reaction. Khaliid: Khiliid's first thought was "There is something sticky on my shirt. oh, throw up." Then he opened his opened his eyes. At first he thought that everything was upside down when he saw Saithe's face and then realized that Saithe was leaning over him. Not only was there throw up on his shirt, being sort of upside down, but also there was a knife pressed to his chest. Great! Saithe then said, "Are you ready?" To die?! Or did he mean something else? "Alive and then died. Died and then reborn again into a second life only to die slowly and painfully in your family's arms." It clicked. Khaliid quickly closed his eyes so blue-eyes couldn't read them. Then he let himself go limp so nothing was tense. In one fluid movement, Khaliid snapped his eyes open and slapped his arms together. He grabed Saithe's wrists and rolled to his right and up onto his knee's. Saithe was holding the knife with his right hand on the bottom and left on the top. But now that khaliid had rolled over Saithe's arms were crossed over. Saithe's left hand was now trapped under his right hand. Saithe let go of the knife with his right hand. But that wasn't it. Khaliid kept moving his hands to the right. Saithe couldn't be upright and be twisted in that direction. Saithe was then flipped onto his back on the dry ground. Saithe's arms were still crossed over one another and sence Saithe's left hand was still pinned Khaliid let go of it. He then used that hand to pry the knife from Saithe's hand. And he quickly tossed it away so blue-eyes couldn't use it through Khaliid. It worked! Khaliid was now kneeling over Saithe, Saithe's hands were crossed, and the knife was no where near eathier of them. No one was hurt, well... No one was damaged for life and hopefully blue-eyes wasn't there anymore. Khaliid tenderly spoke, "Saithe, come back. Give me a sign." Khaliid personly wanted to slam a dagger into blue-eyes heart. |

Saithe was not really sure what happened to get there, but he was now pinned by Khaliid, completely immobile. The dagger was not in his hands, and a quick glance around told him it was nowhere near. He heard one distinct thought, one that was not his own: I have not yet lost. And then he felt a jerk, something more than painful. He closed his eyes, but it was gone. The pain, the voice, the... it was all gone. There was a voice speaking softly. Saithe could not concentrate on it. He opened his mouth, shocked. "I can speak!" he said to no one in particular, his eyes still shut. He opened them, of his own accord. Khaliid was watching him earnestly, a battle of emotions on his face. Saithe shook his head, and purposefully blinked. It felt strange to control his actions. He began to struggle, bothered that Khaliid had even a modicum of control over him. "Let me free. Please. I am me again. I mean, he's gone. Well, not for good. He said he did not lose." He shut his mouth, lost in his train of thought. Blue-eyes was not gone. ((I have nothing else to say, even though this is really short. I made up soemthing new about Saithe's race, but I wasn't thinking of him. It was really inconvenient in Saithe's case, so maybe I'll introduce it later.)) |

"I can speak!" Khaliid blinked a for a moment and then understood. Slowly he released Saithe. He didn't want to let go of Saithe in case blue-eyes came back but he trusted Saithe enough to let go. Khaliid tensed for a moment, waiting for Saithe to jump at him, to kill him but nothing happened. All the energy he had left, left him in a moment and khaliid sagged. When he found the strength to opened his eyes, he found himself staring at the blue sky. He felt sick. Unwillingly, Khaliid sat up and started to take his shirt off. Most of the throwup landed on his shirt and luckily he had another one in his bags. Khaliid cursed. The horses ran away and the bags were on the horses. He wondered if there was a stream near by that he could wash the shirt in. Again he cursed. Khaliid then remembered Saithe and turned around to look. |

Saithe crinkled his nose, and tasted the air. He sighed, and felt utterly helpless. What was he supposed to do about a man he could not find, or fight? He was completely powerless against his enemy. He ground his teeth sharply, and then looked up when Khaliid began to curse. He had no shirt on, and he was standing with it in his hands. Saithe faintly remembered uphending the content of his stomach, and blushed with a slight remorse. On the other hand, it was hardly his fault. Suddenly, Khaliid turned around and stared at Saithe. He frowned slightly. "Um, what should we do now?" he asked planitively. (I like pirates better than these people.) |

Saithe said, "Um, what should we do now?" Khaliid tossed the discusting shirt away and rubs his hands on the ground. He stood up slowly and grolwed "Let's track the horses so I can get a new shirt on. By that time it will probably be dark so we should set up camp." Khaliid salked towards the horses tracks, found the direction they ran of in and started walking. How mean and vile could blue eyes be? Khaliid didn't want to answer that and didn't want to find out. Khaliid clambed over a massive truck of a tree that had fallen over and walked on, not even glancing back to see if Saithe needed help. khaliid untied the skarf to see if blue eyes had a hold of him. His cut still hurt a ton but it wasn't unnaturally hot. At least he could tell if blue eyes had a hold of him. But could Saithe tell and if he could was there a way that he could tell Khaliid when blue eyes had a hold of Saithe? ((Sorry if that was short... I like the pirates better too!)) |

((I am going to add in all the cultural and racial changes I made for Saithe's people, so I am sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense. It shouldn't.)) Khaliid tossed aside his shirt, and Saithe stared at it, wondering if he could wash it. His magic was not strong, but with the aid of the river... "Let's track the horses so I can get a new shirt on. By that time it will probably be dark so we should set up camp." Well, that seemed a better option anyway. Saithe watched Khaliid trudge away, and frowned at the man's grumpy manner. The Mother had almost killed him, but that was no reason to be angry. However, Saithe was aware of the religious differences between humans and alarsa. As Saithe watched Khaliid stride alone, he decided to follow alone. He would never be able to keep up anyway. He waved his hand wiping away the illusion that hid his wings. Flexing the little-used muscles. He jumped, soaring high up into the air, relishing the feel of wind on his wings and face before swooping down to follow Khaliid's quickly moving form. Saithe did not bother to change times as he flew. He rose to meet the challenge of flying fast enough to keep up. He was not sure whether Khaliid even noticed him, or whether the man knew he had wings at all, but he was in no mood to inform him. Khaliid could find out for himself by looking up. That was, assuming he did not mistake Saithe for a bird. |

Before long, Khaliid found his horse. Its eyes were white with fright and its harness was stuck in the trees. Khaliid soothed the frighted animal and looked up into the sky, thanking the King, Queen, and Princess that his horse had not tossed a shoe, or killed himself because there was no help out here. As Khaliid looked up he saw a bird-like thing. As it got closer, it looked more human than bird. In fact, it looked like Saithe! Khaliid quickly pulled a shirt on and moved forward with the horse. Saithe must have some kind of magic to do so. As Khaliid walked forward he saw Saithe's horse stuck in the brambles at the side of the road. Aparently Saithe's horse was not as lucky. Khaliid tied his horse to a near by branch and carfully tied to wade into the brambles to get the horse. Khaliid climbed back out and cursed. He said to the air, "Unless there is another way, we might have to wait til morning." Khaliid needed sleep. He never thought that being on the open road was so hard. But then again, he was not with ordinary people. He had now walked into the world of magic, were there wasn't any set rules. Khaliid was blind and the only person there to help him was Siathe. Khaliid had to trust Saithe even if everything else went wrong. |
