Here it is the 6th of January and we still have had no significant snow. It was in the 50's here today. Unbelievable!!!!! This weather after the prognosticators had predicted a colder than normal winter with twice as much snow as normal. Just another example of how computer models are a darn poor way to predict weather, let alone climate for the next 100 years. |

Don if memory serves me right from living up north for 50 years February and March can be the worst snow months. So buckle down and get the woolen undies out it's on it's way. |

The last few years, we've had snow starting in November continuing throughout the winter, sometimes well into spring. So far, this year has been a refreshing reprieve from the usual. Even if we get snow in the latter part of January and in February, the winter will have already lost its sting as we can begin to look forward to the coming of spring in short order. We sure are saving on the heating bill this year, with a very handsome credit accumulated on our natural gas account. :) |

I lived in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada for several years. When we expecting a particularly bad storm I would put sticks up at each end of the car so I could dig it out after the snow passed. :HELP: There were even times when we would get up in the morning and have to wait for someone to dig out the doors to the house. Best mode of transportation in the winter was by snowmobile. All the vehicles had to have block heaters. If you didn't plug your car in at night you were not starting it in the morning. I was actually born in WV but my we moved to my mothers home when I was young. They met while my father was stationed in Newfoundland with the American Air Force. The webpage below shows what is is like after a particularly bad storm. pppft St Anthony I was looking at the forecast this morning. The average snowfall in the winter for Indy is less than 27". I can live with that. It will be in the high 40s / low 50s for the next few days. |

Wow, I've never seen snow like that in my whole life. I bet the kids had a real good time once they were able to get out of their house! |

Tomorrow we are forecast to have near record-breaking temperatures in the high 40's. Then the fit hits the shan. Here's the forecast for Thursday, copied from our weather. Thursday...Occasional snow. Snow May be heavy at Times in the morning. Several inches of accumulation possible. Much colder. Highs in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 80 percent. Guess I'll finally get to use the snow blower. Almost half way through January, though. pppft |

I was never one for cold and snow but you learn to live with it. My children never seemed to mind how hard it snowed. Dress them up warm and out they go. I can remember driving when the snow was banked up so high you would think you were in a tunnel. YUCK..... Your right Don the change is coming tomorrow. Cold temps and lots of snow. My husband bought a snow blower several years ago and I believe it has only been out of the garage a couple of times. Nice to have it we need it. |

Well, just checked the forecast and it doesn't look like I'm going to enjoy this one. This from the weather site out of Rockford for Genoa:
Going from 50 for a high today to 20's and snow tomorrow is like a big slap in the face. Getting closer to 70 in age is not making it much easier, either. I just hate it when the blowing snow sticks to my beard and mustache and turns to ice and the wind blows the snow back from the snow blower and shoves it where the sun don't shine. :swear: The snow is bad enough, but 30 mph wind gusts really makes it suck. I can already feel my joints and bones aching. Think today I'll run around naked in the sun and soak up some of it to get me through tomorrow. :happyhappy: |
