After spending the day building a new 30gal filter and cleaning out the two lower ponds ; I woke up to this stuff again.

In the pic you can see the temporary pond enclosure on the right and the two lower ponds to the left.

In the top center you can see the new filter back in the bush. A 2" line goes in the top and straight two the bottom. The water rises through 24" of pea gravel and gravity takes it out through a 3" ABS pipe to a small water feature.
I let it run overnight and it worked great. The next job this spring will be to hide it; probable with vegetation. One thing I hate is seeing the mechanics of the pond.

WW, will you report back on how well that pea gravel filter works? I would be interested to know. I suppose it would be a pain to clean but I love the idea of it.
My pond stays pretty clear (fingers and toes crossed) so far but more filter the better and who knows, I could get a wild hare and do an addition :faint:
I do know what you mean about hiding the mechanics as I have a ton of black hose in my pond that I can see. At least it isn't white or something!

Thanks for posting.

T

PS a little closer shot of the filter one day when you don't have to take the sled dog team out to do so would be cool B)

Do you have any provisions for backwashing it?

T. I will let you know how the pea gravel works. I have never used it before.
My goal was to make a big filter that was easy to clean.

Don. I put a 1 1/2" drain hole in the bottom with a threaded plug. I am hoping ,all I have to do is pull the plug and let the pump run and it should back wash its self.

Terri and I are leaving tomorrow for a one week vacation. Hopefully the snow will be gone and I will take some pics of the filter.
