Rules on Ministerial Statements Very simple: Any Minister of the Crown may make a statement to the House concerning any matter he wishes to address, be it within his portfolio or otherwise related to businesses of the State. Replies from any other member of the House are permitted, but this is not question period, do not expect an answer if your replies are in the form of questions (He may reply if he chooses, but he is not obliged). Maximum one reply per member to any particular thread. The minister who made the original statement may make one reply only in response to all subsequent replies and comments to his original statement. Rules on Petitions Also simple: Any member may present a petition emanating from the public here. How do you get a petition? You can request one from the riding association or any other organisation to administer it (aka ask an Av), or you may just find out being handed to you out of nowhere. All members may debate the merits and meaning of a particular petition, however remember there is no vote at the end so usually such debates are more cordial than usual. |
