- "Shaymin is a small, white hedgehog-like Pokémon."
-
In its land forme, Shaymin is the smallest of all legendary Pokémon, being no more than 8" tall. Its shape resembles that of a small white hedgehog. Green grass-like fur, run along the creature's back. It carries its weight on four stumpy legs. On each side of its face, a Gracidea flower is nestled into its grass pelt. Though most commonly the flowers on its head are Gracidea, climate and local wildlife can influence what type of flower will grow on the Pokémon. Shaymin lives in fields of wildflowers and can easily be camouflaged among all of the foliage. Since this Pokémon is very timid, it can curl up into a ball and easily escape a person's notice.
In its sky forme, its appearance is close to that of a small terrier or a reindeer. The fur on its back, once a fluffy pelt of tall grass, now flares out as a mohawk. The Gracedia flowers on its face are replaced with two fallen petals that cover its neck like a scarf. Its legs are now long and slender with the paws being a soft green color resulting in a two-toned fur pattern. It now has long flat ears that stand erect like antlers, they appear to resemble wings. Shaymin will turn change forms if it touches a Gracedia flower. From its sky forme, it will revert back into its land forme if it is nighttime or if the weather is too cold.

- "Each season, Shaymin gathers with others in a flower field somewhere and migrates from there."
-
In its land forme, Shaymin is quite timid and is easily frightened. It cares greatly about the well-being of others, but often its innocent demeanor will prevent it from approaching strange humans or Pokémon. It rarely socializes with other Pokémon, even if it is an unfamiliar Shaymin. It is not inherently drawn to battling other Pokémon, and will often use its sleep-inducing Grass Whistle in order to escape a fight. Though not defenseless, it believes that People should not battle with Pokémon and for this reason can often be disgusted by humanity's violence and pollution. Despite this, Shaymin's signature move, Seed Flare, allows it to rid the air of impurities and release the chemicals in the form of an explosion.
In its sky forme, Shaymin is notably more confident and brave than its land-based counterpart. Possibly with the ability to fly, it no longer fears menacing Pokémon as it can easily zip into the air away from its attacker. Shaymin's sky forme defends the happiness of all living creatures who constantly display signs of gratitude through their life. It greatly believes in strengthening relations between every organism within one entire ecosystem. Those who appreciate all that life has to offer them are blessed with the spirit of the flowers and enjoy relatively healthy lives without encountering many clinical illnesses. With its new-found bravery, sky forme Shaymin is more curious and has been recorded to sometimes leave the safety of its home in order to spy on an interesting Pokémon Trainer.

- "I will accept your gratitude, and return for it my love."
-
Seabreak Path stretched far out beyond the horizon, serving as the local breeding grounds for Sinnoh's Beautifly population. This spring morning was filled with the whistling cries of these butterfly Pokémon as they danced across the flower tops of this Flower Paradise. On this morning, like any other, Shaymin awoke to sounds of crashing waves outside of its burrow. His short snout poked out of the tunnel to his den, taking in all of the pleasant aromas of this seaside sanctuary. He spent his time this morning eating the fruit of the Roseli berry tree, chasing the other Shaymin around the field, and watching the migrating Mantine soar across the Sinnoh seawater. Yes, it seemed that this day would be just like any other until Shaymin noticed a single woman hiking across the stretch of the isthmus that connected Flower Paradise to Route 224.
This was confusing, no human has ever been able to locate this haven for the Gratitude Pokémon. The mist of crashing waves held its location secret to passing fishing boats. As she approached the edge of the clearing she stopped, giving all the native Pokémon a chance to retreat into a hiding space and observe from afar. She was fairly young, with a look of grief on her face it was obvious that she had been crying. Nestled under her arm was a bouquet of a familiar pink flower, she crushed it slightly with an embrace. The girl did not move for a moment, taking in the beauty of the flowers around her. After taking a deep breath, she walked to the edge of the water and knelt down in front of a stone tree stump that grew from the ground. Shaymin had known this stump before and had always wondered what kind of tree it once was. The stump was tall and flat, dressed in an array of colored mosses and vines. On the face of the stone, a text was once engraved but is now left illegible from neglect. Shaymin watched closely as the girl placed the bouquet at the base of the stump and began to cry once again. Shaymin listened to her speak words of regret and sadness due to the absence of someone. When she was finished speaking, she dried the tears from her eyes and left the bouquet on the ground.
Once Shaymin could no longer see her, he called its friends to gather around the stone and help inspect the area. After removing some of the overgrowths, Shaymin was able to read the inscription on the stump. "Helen B. Woodrow." Not that he expected the text to make any sense, but Shaymin was disappointed in what all the commotion was about. He turned his attention to the bouquet left for the residents of Flower Paradise. Shaymin had seen these flowers once, a long time ago. The soft pink hue was appealing, and the fragrance was reminiscent of the sweet berries he is thankful for. Shaymin approached the bouquet with care, before pressing his nose against the blossom. A glow of light surrounded the Pokémon immediately as he was lifted into the sky in a shell of sunlight. The other Shaymin watched as its companion changed shape from once a small hedgehog into now a slender deer. Taking to the skies, a train of these sky-born stags soared over the length of Seabreak Pass putting a soft smile on a young girl's face.
