Arceus is an equine being similar to a Qilin or Centaur. Its body color is white with a gray, vertically-striated underside, the pattern of which has similar recurrences on the underside of Arceus's mane, tail, and face, and Arceus's four pointed feet are tipped with gold hooves. Its mane is quite long, jutting away from its head, and its face is gray, with green eyes and red pupils, and a green circular pattern below its eyes. Arceus also has a streak of gold coloration on its head, and ears that point upward. Its neck is fairly long, with two pairs of extrusions to the sides, and a flap-like feature on the neck's underside that is colored white like much of the body.

It also has a golden cross-like wheel attached to its body by its round abdomen, which changes color along with its eyes and hooves based on Arceus's current type. The wheel also has four jewels attached to it. The pattern of striated gray of Arceus's underbelly resumes past Arceus's waist, the underside of Arceus's limbs also being gray in coloration, and with extrusions at the tops of the legs. Arceus's tail is fairly like its mane in shape and coloration. According to legend, it has 1000 arms.

Wise, omni-potent and just, Arceus is the creator of the world and the judge of all living mortals. Not one to needlessly cause trouble for the mortal realm he tends to, he has a more or less "hands off" approach to human affairs. He has been known to take matters into his own control from time to time, but, in truth, Arceus would rather see his children live and grow and learn for themselves.

In concerns to the greater Darkness, he feels not so much anger for its ways as he does saddness. He understands that the Darkness is the antithesis of his own self, that the Darkness breaks down things because Arceus himself creates things. He would see the Darkness vanquished, but he understands the unlikelyhood of this. The precense of light will always cast a shadow.

According to legend, Arceus is thought to have created the Sinnoh region and possibly the entire Pokémon world, the lake guardians: Uxie, Azelf, Mesprit, and the creation trio: Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Because of this, Arceus is thought to be one of the most long-lived of all Pokémon species. It has the power to recreate the creation trio as well, presumably to guard the dimensions when a Trainer has caught one of them.

Arceus is multifarious; it can change appearance and types with the use of the special Plates. Arceus is the only known Pokémon who can learn Judgment, thought to be the most powerful move in the Pokémon world.

In truth (and in PokéFiends canon) Arceus is the most powerful being in the universe in a sense. It can theoretically be defeated, but the ability and power to do so is far out of mortal reach. Arceus is capable of the creation of anything and, by using Judgement, is capable of destroying things to (or, in truth, creating destruction).

Arceus is capable of bring the dead back into being, but does not do so often. He typically only brings back deserving souls.

In the beginning, there was solitude.

There was darkness, empty and cold. In the beginning, there was all that was, all that is and all that will be; everything began and ended, ended and began, over, over and over. There is nothing that has not been. There is nothing that will not be.

And then, as with most beginnings, there was light.

It glowed, warm, pregnant with knowledge and being. It glowed, hotter still, as if yearning for birth. And then, as the light shimmered fully, pitting the darkness to the farthest edges of everything, He was born.

The Original One.

Body still aglow with the viscera of light from His egg, He took His first step into the darkness that both cradled Him and despised Him.

It cradled Him, because the darkness knew it could use Him. It could twist His children. It could twist anything he created, and oh, how did it yearn for him to create. How did it yearn and crave to twist his precious children. Yet, it despised Him, because the darkness knew, as He knew, that light is strong. Even the dimmest flicker of light can repel the darkness. No matter the shadows, light could fight against the oncoming of the dark.

The Original One put the thought from His mind, because knew that such a thing was inescapable. Light and darkness will always exist as two halves of a whole. With that knowledge, He surveyed the darkness that shied away from his light. Closing his eyes, he willed into being his first two children.

Dialga, the Roar of Time, his voice daunting and loud and unavoidable for all. Dialga, whom controls the beginning and end of all time... and Palkia, the Spacial Render, whom all matter can trace a parenthood back to. Palkia, whom all that is owes existence to. So then did the Roar of Time and the Spacial Render create time and space for the Original One.
