Ecruteak, the beginning of summer. The smells of fresh baked goods and market stalls waft through the air. People clamor around the olden paved streets, wearing the garb of traditional Japan. Some stalls sell yukata and kimono, others sell trinkets and candies and food of days long past. One stall even sells miniature bred Goldeen and Magikarp in bags.
Summer is here and Ecruteak welcomes it with a festival.
Masks are a common sight here, even more common than bare faces. There is a contest in city, the winner of the best mask receives a prize. The local dance theater also puts on dancing lessons and contests, welcoming all to its doors.
It is not yet so warm that it is unbearable to be out in the heat... in truth, the festival is a welcoming, bright collection of celebration, to which all are invited.
[This event is non-canon. That means you may post, no matter where your character is in the rest of PokéFiends. This event will end on July 31, 2012. There is no posting order, as the event is timed. Participants of this event will get a Andesine Moltres added to their PC post for them to remember the event by. Thank you, and enjoy.]

---
[There is an optional event for this Festival. People who post may also most images of a mask their character is wearing, given that they draw or design it themselves. The designer of the best mask will receive their choice between Shade the Nincada or Reversi the Psyduck. Second place winner will receive the remaining Pokémon. Third place winner will receive two free recolors from Dischord's sprite shop.
Masks will be judged on creativity, not drawing quality. Entries will be judged on July 1st.]

Green arrived through the gate of Route 37, a slow and steady gait carrying him forward amongst the light crowd of those festival goers gathering for the annual Summer Festival. It was a rare sight for the ex-Champion to be here, and even rarer still due to the fact half of his face was obscured by a mask. In fact, it might have been because it was a masked festival that he decided to show - his face would attract unwanted attention, from either squealing fangirls or those who'd seen his face in the news. No, for now the rather handsome trainer was mostly incognito, enjoying the almost relaxed bustle of life around him as such a change from his time spent wandering the wilds alone with his Pokémon. He could be seen wearing a purple and black jinbei-style outfit, and as ever tucked away the chain of his locket. It might be noted that with his sandals he wore... socks.
He stopped at a stall, taking in the grand scents of the lines of food booths opposite the games. With a pass of a hand depositing his coins, he took a stick of yaki-dango with a jaunty tip of his fingers to the elderly couple behind the stall, doing his best not to attract the attention of what was presumably their daughter. It seemed he was becoming more adept at not being mobbed in public, something he could only consider a good thing. Generally being the only one small enough to be out and about, his Umbreon stepped out of his shadow with a soft call of "Umbri!" to announce its presence.
Green tossed one of the dango to his Umbreon, reaching down to pat its side as it chewed. "Alright, let's go mingle." He spoke with that clear, thoughtful voice of his as the pair set out into the growing throngs, the festivities starting to get underway. His unnaturally brilliant green eyes seemed to grow in intensity the less light there was shining on them, sweeping through the assembled crowd almost subconsciously as he enjoyed the relative tranquility of an atmosphere of laid-back fun and togetherness.

It was nice to get out, once in a while.
Darach was walking about stiffly upright out of habit, not exactly a strut, but he certainly wasn't slouching. This time, his Sableye was out and about with him, though with a bit of trepidation because he wasn't used to such amounts of contact with others. The Castle Valet was enjoying himself, letting his Pokémon gather little bits and bobs for him. Money was no object to him; why, with a castle of his own, there was surely room to keep a few pet fish Pokémon?
He met quite a few Trainers while patrolling the area for good buys. He stumbled upon one with his Pokémon out, an Umbreon. They both had a certain air of confidence about them... He decided to go up and say hello.
"Good day, sir. I am Darach, a Frontier Brain. You seem like quite the Trainer. I believe I have seen you before.... Am I mistaken?"

Children ran past him, the half-masked Green nimbly sidestepping as they came pushing through the crowd from behind. Likely slipping away from their parents to meet up and form roving packs of fun-seeking midgets, no doubt. He gave a light smile at their eager mirth, Umbreon climbing up Green's back to curl around his neck and shoulders - gaining a better vantage point of the festivities. Absently, he reached up and scratched behind its shoulderblade just as it liked. Of his main crew, Umbreon was perhaps the only one who sought out any sort of pampering and extra affection, but Green understood this well given its capture by the Rockets years ago.
Umbreon perked an ear just as Green's eyes cut to the side, finding a presence disturbing the rustle of the crowd. A dissonance to the thrum created by the patter of sandal-covered feet and idle chatter of many dozens of people and Pokémon here or there. Green gave an easy smile with the half of his face that wasn't covered as the crisp-looking man came to a stop in front of him, the disruption caused by the direct movement towards his present position. Umbreon fixed its golden eyes, no less brilliant than Green's, on the man standing before the two of them.
"Good festival to you, Frontier Brain Darach. You have a sharp eye, I will say that for you... as for seeing me before, it is possible we have crossed paths. I tend to wander wherever I feel the need takes me. Enjoying yourself?"
The lilt in his voice was almost melodic as he smoothly responded without mentioning his name, it held a core of bass diffused into the crystal tone. Green's speech, both in manner and tone gave off the air of introspection as he studied the man before him passively.

In the twelve years since Vincent had turned 18, he had never visited a foreign land as a tourist. He was always on a mission: assassination, High Value Target/High Value Individual extraction, preparing an area for follow-on forces, recon, asset denial... those were his usual motives for paying a nation a visit. This time? He was just a man in a brightly-colored Hawaiian shirt, shorts, flipflops, and a black and red mask that covered most of his face. The vendor that he'd bought it from had said that it was a traditional samurai's mask and that it would ward off evil spirits.
Evil spirits had never seemed to bother Vince in the slightest; he was more concerned with the tangible. Threats he could engage and eliminate through conventional means. For those, he had his brass knuckles tucked in a pocket of his cargo shorts and his Kimber 1911 snug in a shoulder holster, hidden from all but a pat-down by his loose-fitting shirt.
He was trying to relax. Really, he was. He had been contacted a week ago by a representative of the Republic of Seafoam and he had the feeling that, once he arrived at the young nation, his recreational time would be cut to nil. His instincts as an Operator hadn't been dulled by the last two years of relative inactivity, though. His eyes jumped from person to person through the crowd and he subconsciously identified each person by the level of threat they presented him. Most fell under the category of "maybe if I was asleep and paralyzed from the neck down."
Luke walked by his side, equally aware of the throng but in his own way. He reached out to each person they passed, gently searching their minds for any sign of potential violence. How exactly did this become a good idea, again? the Lucario asked telepathically. He sounded strained. He wasn't used to rapid-fire probing with dozens of potential targets.
"I seem to remember thinking that it would be fun," Vincent replied as he started making his way towards a slightly less-crowded area. He took note of two masked men standing nearby, having a conversation. The brown-haired one seemed vaguely familiar, but he couldn't place the instinct.
Oh, yes. Nothing says "fun" quite like being surrounded by a constantly shifting mass of people.
"Just remember the Three P's and we'll be fine." The Three P's were part of the code that Vincent lived by: always be Prompt, Polite, and, most importantly, Prepared to kill everyone in the vicinity. Vincent lit a cigarette and held it in his lips. "If we could just find someplace that sells a decent drink then this could be a good time. Am I right?"
Luke tilted his head from side to side a few times, contemplating the dilemma. I quite enjoyed the sake from that vendor a ways back... Vincent made a face. It had been the first time he'd ever tried sake; he wasn't impressed. Alcohol wasn't supposed to be warm.
"I'll be sure to buy you a bottle when we get to where we're going." Vincent spared another look at the young man with brown hair. He could have sworn he'd seen the guy somewhere before.

The dark haired man strolling through the crowd adjusted the sash on the half-yukata he wore above his hakama, the red and golden fabric of the yukata practically shimmering. He wore a sarashi beneath the yukata, in a traditional older style, and wooden geta made him taller than his already above-average height. His face was obscured by a kitsune mask, white and red, with a black nose, that covered his face, but not all of his mouth. Peeking around over the top edge of the mask was a tiny orange Joltik, looking around with wide eyes.
His voice was mellow and cool, as he spoke to the little Pokémon.
"Huge difference, huh? Just relax, you'll be okay." Far from frightened though, the tiny Pokémon was anxious to look everywhere, content to be exploring the world from the head of his rescuer. The masked man flashed a grin as he slipped through the crowd. He brushed through people, passing others with a slight incline of his head, making claws of his hands as children who squealed in delight at the fierce kitsune, and dashed off into the crowds.
The males most stunning feature though? The bright red eyes that almost lent credibility to the fox faced mask he wore, shining like gems from the eyes of the mask.

Not wanting to miss much of the festival, the half-masked Green gave Darach half a grin, giving a nod to the Frontier Brain. "Quite, now... if you'll excuse me." He stepped around the sharp figure and quickly picked him up and threw him into the nearest pond, screaming "GARY OAK DON'T TAKE NO BACK-TALK!" turned his sandal-clad step back into the throng. The shoulder-sat Umbreon looked about, its golden eyes flashing with each light reflected in them. He took the opportunity to begin munching at his purchased snack, giving a dry chuckle. "Nice to get ourselves a snack now and then, hm? Been awhile since I've tasted food we didn't have to fight for."
The Umbreon gave a nod of assent, lifting up the offered yaki-dango with the telekinetic grip of Psychic. It shoved its muzzle into the festival fare, nibbling away at it as Green moved on to see what was what in the colorful festival. With the thought in mind, he stopped by at one of the more gaily-lit stands to get some bagged festival food for the rest of his team for the success of their training outing. Running a scarred palm through his spiky brown locks, Green sighed as he looked back on the accomplishments they had made together out in the mountains... and now, it was time to do some relaxing before things got hectic.

Red had continued to wander through the festival, and was currently playing Kingyo Sukui, crouched in front of the small box of miniature Magikarp. Of course, he flicked his wrist and instead of sailing into the bowl, it went over his head, landing atop Green's.
Using splash attack.
Which did nothing.
