Something that's long since bounced around in my head that came up in topic today is the advent of custom Pokémon. Up until very recently, I was adamantly against allowing them, based on the pretense that it would be hard to moderate them (as they had no in-game move sets or stats to go by, most of the time, and because quality on them typically fluctuates a great deal based on the creator).
And the mention of it being pretty non-canonical was brought to my attention. But since I figure that terraforming the Seafoam islands and turning it into a militant base of operations, allowing drastically different colorations of canon Pokémon (since, let's face it, we've broken the "must be natural colors" rule ten times over), including the Samurai Warriors characters from Pokémon Conquest and allowing technology from other video games like Halo to be patch worked into characters is allowed... well. A few custom Pokémon couldn't be that bad, if the member base is for it.
Granted, I'm against allowing any old custom Pokémon. They would be more finely profiled than characters. We would not allow evolutions or pre-evolotions of existing Pokémon. They would have to be from other regions (basically the rest of the world, like America or such.) And they would require fully completely, balanced game data-like stats. (Including sprites, region of origin, abilities, and move pools with levels.) If they evolved, you'd need to profile them individually. For example, they would need to be profile as detailed as things like this project.
As per normal, five more votes than the losing option will cement this as part of the site.

I'm against the customs. Yes, we've "changed" canon some, but never really broken it, except with the whole seafoam thing. I mean, changing pokemons' colors is one thing, but making completely non-canonical Pokémon? I think that'd be pushing it. But maybe that's just me.

It's a break in canon, true, but it's also one that would still fit the world. They'd still be Pokémon, after all. It's not like it would be Digimon vs. Pokémon.
In any case, we'll be heavily moderating them to make sure things are cohesive with the world, at least. :3

To be honest, you might want to limit the number of Customs created to one per person (A full evo line counts as one). That way we don't have someone flooding the board with new 'mons everytime they get a wild hair up their asses. One per individual seems like it would keep content fresh, and not topple the balance of using existing 'mons.

K i know its al ittle late, but i'm against it as well. if i'd seen this sooner (darn real life for making me busy, AGAIN) then i'd have piped up sooner. one thing i've always liked about this site was its purity. I'll wait and see what kind of stuff is submitted and accepted before i decide if it ruins it any for me, but..I'm afraid people might try to pass a lot of bullshit under the radar.
In all my years of living, i've only ever seen ONE custom that i've liked, and it was a branch evolution of an existing one. Of course it was one of my favorites, so..i was kinda picky when i went over it, looking at it and stuff, but the person did really well on it. even so, i'd still vote no.
For one thing, not everyone can get permission from people for sprites, and most people looking to get permission, have no artistic talent themselves, not even with sprites.
Its a little late i know, and i haven o influence on the decision since its been made already, but i wanted to make my own opinion known. I don't want to start any sort of fight or anything about this.

I see what you're saying, both Josh & Raal, but I'd reply to that by saying that the usage of custom Pokémon is entirely restricted in many ways.
1). It has to be stressed that this won't break canon in the respect of the most commonly used areas. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn etc are all completely unaffected by this so that shouldn't disrupt your roleplay with Pokémon you are all too unfamiliar with in what is a 'canon region'.
2). We deliberately made it so they would be in real world places only on the basis that people are using real areas more frequently on the forum. Because of that, we wanted to express the fact that it'd be likely (as is the future of the franchise) there are hundreds more undiscovered Pokémon, and in different areas of the globe.
With regards to the site's approach to all things canonical, I'd still not say that this vote makes the site less 'pure' in any way, nor that the change is a major one even. If that was the case, I think people would have voted negatively more, but yeah.
