Walking off the boat with his pack on his back and his traveling cloak around his shoulders, (though it was open in the front at the moment, and his hood was not up) Raal Gardev walked off the ship and onto the pier. He had given up on buneary staying in her Poké Ball on that ship, she just liked bouncing around a moving environment way to dang much.

Which was why she was on his shoulder, looking around as one might survey a new landscape from a tall tree. She had seen cities before but the buildings here were different. Every new city she saw was like a whole new place to explore! Plus, it was fun being with Raal and his other Pokémon!

As Raal started walking towards the city, he thought about what he had been told by one of his friends from this region. They had gotten reports of a strong trainer that looked the same as the projected aging picture of his sister, but they didn't know the exact city, it was one of three cities, and the first was this city. He would probably spend a week or two exploring and searching for clues before moving on.

Looking over, Raal saw a gym in the distance. It had been a while since he went and did a proper gym challenge, but he really wasn't in the mood for it. He hadn't been for a long time now. Yes he enjoyed battling, but he had other things he had to do. Shrugging, he continued on towards the main part of the city, towards the Pokémon center. Best to make sure his Pokémon weren't going to get land-sick, even though none had gotten sea sick, thankfully.

The little red fox's nails clicked and clawed on the pavement as she ran, tongue hanging out of the side of her mouth rakishly. This was one of her favorite games to play with her beloved trainer, who was panting far behind her.

- C'mon, Jacey, you can do it! - She giggled through her telepathic link. She was the only Pokémon Jace owned that had this ability, and it came in handy. Jace finally stopped as the vulpix ran on. He put his hands on his knees and caught his breath.

"Viola... I swear.... that fox..." He panted, shaking his head. His long black locks fell into his forest green eyes, sweat dripping down his temple. He pushed his hair out of his face and straightened when a girl walked by. He shot her a grin and waved, the picture of adorable male attractiveness. The girl's cheeks turned pink and she giggled, trotting away.

Viola hadn't stopped running—she was having far too much fun. Shiva, the dragonair, would probably have scolded her for being so silly, but it was in the vulpix's nature to play little games. She sniffed in the sea breeze happily, glad Jace had decided to stop and stay in Olivine for a few days. It was beautiful here.

Oh, and look! Viola saw the ship, anchored at the dock. New people would be arriving, and others would leave. She stopped to watch the people coming in and opened her mind. Viola loved to read other's emotions, even if she only got the basic gist of them. A boat dock, where families reunited, people left each other, and lovers found one another again was the perfect place to read an array of feelings emanating from each human being.

She quirked her ears when she saw a boy with a buneary riding atop his shoulders, seeming hyper and excited about the adventure. The boy looked a lot like Jace, but his body language was different, somehow—and never would Jace wear a hoodie unless it was some designer brand. She raced off to find Jace, eager to tell him the news of finding another Pokémon trainer.

He was right where she left him.

- Jacey, there's a new trainer here! - She told him excitedly. -Follow me! -

Jace smiled at her enthusiasm and did as she asked, finally coming upon the boy with the buneary.

"Thanks, Vi," he said, scratching her ears. She made a strange sound, like a cross between a growl and a purr. Jace approached the young man, his extroverted nature making it easy for him to do simply that.

"Hey," Jace grinned, sticking out a hand in the typical 'handshake' gesture. "I'm Jace. I assume you train Pokémon, right?" He asked, looking pointedly at the buneary and the belt of Poke balls at the boy's waist. "I do, as well. This is Viola," he said, gesturing to the young fox.

"Welcome to Johto!"

Raal had seen the guy coming, with a vulpix, and had turned slightly to check that the other person was headed for him. When the guy adjusted his course he knew he was. Looking at his hand and blinking slightly, having been caught off guard, Raal shook the guy's hand and looked at his indicated partner, then at the guy again. "The name's Raal, and yes I do. This is buneary, she likes popping out of her Poké Ball." Smiling slightly Raal took another look at the vulpix. It seemed happy, and it looked like it was healthy.

Buneary however, hadn't seen a vulpix before...so she started bouncing all around it looking at it form different angles, asking a thousand questions. If one slowed her speech down it would start with 'Hi who're you I'm buneary what're you what kind of berrys do you like'. After this it would get to be too fast to understand, unless you were as hyper as she was. Raal, seeing this shook his head. This happened EVERY! SINGLE! TIME! At least she had enthusiasm

Looking back to the other person again Raal looked at their belt, seeing six pokeballs, similar to his own. "so you from around here or are you from a different region like I am?"

Jace noted Raal's general toned-down-ness when compared to himself, and automatically he respected the other boy's space. He subconsciously moved away a bit to allow Raal a bit of breathing room while smiling down at the hyper rabbit Pokémon.

"She's adorable," Jace noted. He'd always liked the cute Pokémon. His fingers itched to grab the little buneary and groom her, put little pink bows on her ears... he shook himself out of his little designer daydream and patted the rabbit when she'd sat still for a second.

Viola was a bit dizzy from the young buneary's questions, but she allowed the rabbit a little fox-grin and a few answers. She heard all of the questions through the buneary's link and answered some of them through it.

- I'm Viola. I'm a vulpix, a fire-type fox, I suppose... Um, and I like Razz Berries. Nice to meet you, Buneary. - Viola tilted her head at Buneary's antics, curious and amused. If she were a bit younger, she probably would have joined in, chasing her beribboned tails, but she'd matured slightly in her journeys with her trainer, and so she just let out a mental giggle.

Jace looked up from the two interacting Pokémon, noting the cute round belly of the Buneary and barely suppressing a girlish squeal, when he heard Raal ask him a question.

"Oh, uh, yeah, I'm from Johto. Ecruteak, actually," Jace answered, jabbing a thumb behind him in the general direction of the town. "Born and raised there. I've been all over Johto, though, and I'd love to visit a few other places as well. What kind of places have you been to?"

The young trainer subtly fixed his hair and collar as he spoke, a sort of habit the young fashion-loving boy had required. He took in Raal's slightly haggard expression and his grin dimmed.

"You must be tired from your trip, and your Pokémon, too. I was heading towards the Pokémon Center, wanna come with?" He asked politely.

Buneary would have kept asking question, until she realized the voice was in her head. Stopping , she thought about that for a second before giving up on it. Talking was talking was talking, however it happened. She ALMOST jumped in surprise when the boy petted her, not expecting it, but she decided it wasn't all that bad.

Raal raised an eyebrow as Buneary was petted, but the part that struck hi mas odd was how suddenly buneary had stopped. Shrugging it off mentally, Raal looked back to the other person.....who struck him as more of a contest person for some reason. "The ride wasn't too bad actually, though i admit..I was kind of bored. I'm from the Sinnoh region, and I've traveled though most of hoenn, and ...a bit of kanto." He hesitated about kanto, since he didn't exactly have the best of memories their, especially not from saffron city. I was headed to the center already, so i wouldn't mind joining you at all. I do have One question before we go though. What's your name?"

While Raal had introduced himself, the other person seemed to have forgotten in their excitement. While it wasn't any big deal, it would be kind of nice to know his name at least. Who knows, maybe this kid was a good battler too.

Viola felt Buneary's hesitation when she'd used her telepathy and scolded herself for not telling the poor rabbit about it ahead of time. She'd been so used to Jace's team and the boy himself that she'd forgotten what it was like to speak with strangers.

- Oh, I'm sorry, Buneary, I forgot... I can speak through a telepathic link, unlike a lot of other Pokémon. Sorry I didn't warn you... - Viola had a feeling that the rabbit wouldn't really mind much, but it was still rude not to tell others about her strange and sometimes frightening ability.

Jace found himself feeling a little guilty, too, when he realized that he hadn't asked to come near another trainer's Pokémon or even introduced himself.

"Aw, man, I'm sorry. My name's Jace, it's great to meet another trainer. So yeah, I'll head to the Center with ya," he said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head with a hand. His black hair became even more fluffy and mussed as he did so.

As Raal nodded and began walking towards the Pokémon center, he looked at buneary, who seemed more excited than ever now. Grabbing her out of mid air as she began to bounce around again, Raal sighed. "Buneary, your REALLY need to calm down a bit. If people can't understand what your saying then it does no good."Sighing, he placed her on his shoulder, then continued walking. He could already see the Pokémon center.

Glancing back at the vulpix he couldn't help but wonder WHY his eyes kept being drawn to it. It wasn't that he wanted it...but something about it kept grabbing his attention. He would ask about it later. "So how did you know i was more of a trainer and not a coordinator?"

Jace snickered quietly at the rabbit's antics before walking alongside Raal, Viola at his heels.

"You seem to be pretty close to your Pokémon," Jace observed aloud. "Viola here was my first one," he said, glancing down at her affectionately. She growled in a sort of endearing way. "I found her in my back yard as a kit. I think it's been a few years since then, though. She can talk through telepathy, so we got pretty close."

He put his hands behind his head as they walked, taking in the pleasant sea breeze. The sounds of miltanks' soft mooing could be heard from a nearby farm. Jace paused for a moment as Raal posed his question, considering the answer.

"You know, I'm not really sure. Maybe it was the comfortable travelling clothes, or the way you walked or something. Or maybe I'm just psychic," he grinned, chuckling. They finally came upon the automatic doors of the Poke Center and Jace stood aside, politely letting Raal through first.

"I've got a room here for one more night, and then we're leaving to go train and catch other Pokémon. May I ask how long you're staying?" Jace asked. He wondered because he really wanted to try his Pokémon against another trainer... it had been a long time since he'd battled another trainer and not just wild Pokémon.

The eye on the far side of Jace twitched at the word psychic. Raal was still not comfortable around them. Pokémon he could handle, they usually kept out of your head unless you gave them permission. Most vulpix weren't that powerful mentally though....except maybe Sabrina's, but he couldn't be sure.

As the wind blew his hair and he took in the sea breeze that was now beginning to mix with some of the smells of the town Raal looked around while considered Jaces question. "Not too sure, I've been trying to get in contact with someone i know. They said they had a bit of info on something i was looking for. However i figure if i haven't heard from them in a day or three I'll go right to their house a few towns over."

As the small party turned the corner and saw the Pokémon center ahead, Raal started thinking. Jace had an air of confidence, so he might be a decent battler. And vulpix needed fire stones to evolve, so evolution might not be the best indicator of strength in this case. Perhaps it was time fora proper Pokémon battle against a strong trainer. Assuming this kid was strong that is. IF he wasn't...well there was always the gym leader, he didn't have to challenge for a badge.

Viola glanced up at Raal as Jace spoke, noting the hiccup in his emotions as her owner talked. She wasn't quite sure of the reasoning behind the sudden disturbance in his feelings, and it was fleeting, so she shrugged it off and put it at the back of her mind. Jace, oblivious to Raal's reaction, nodded as the other trainer answered.

"Oh, well that's cool, I guess," Jace answered absently out of politeness, even though he didn't really know what Raal was talking about. The other trainer was being vague—probably on purpose, but Jace knew to keep out of other people's business.

"So, hey, would you want to have a quick battle when your Pokémon get all rested up? I don't know how much experience your Pokémon have, but you have a full team, so..." Jace trailed off, his green eyes lighting up with excitement. "It's been a long time since I've actually battled a trainer—I've been travelling all over the place and haven't stopped to do so. Hopefully I'm not rusty," he grinned, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.

Viola looked up at her trainer eagerly. She liked battles, mainly because she liked to play it like a puzzle. She was crafty and intelligent, and nearly always had a trick up her sleeve. Jace wasn't a bad trainer, and could direct his Pokémon well, but Viola had always been a bit.... independent, and always took Jace's 'orders' as 'suggestions'. The two of them had an understanding, however, and her behavior never got in the way of training.

Smiling, Raal liked this way Jace thought. It never hurt to keep in practice. Then again, he trained every day, so it was hard to be OUT of practice for him. He just enjoyed battling. "A battle? sure, full 6 on 6 or 3 on 3? Either way is fine by me, just be ready to lose." He said this last part with a smile, not being cocky, but rather knowing he was strong. There was no real NEED to be cocky, that only lead to defeat.

Buneary perked up even more (if that was possible) at the sound of a battle. Raal didn't let her battle often....maybe because she always went overboard? But it was so fun! and she could bounce around EVERY-where without people getting in the way and getting mad at her, it was a win win situation!

As Raal placed buneary on the tray with the pokeballs, he looked at her. "now behave for me ok buneary? thanks." Nodding to the nurse, he looked over at jace and awaited his answer, hoping that he would be a good challenge to fight.

Jace pondered the other boy's question for a moment, looking down at Viola. True, all of his Pokémon were pretty strong, but... maybe choosing the strongest would be smartest. After all, Jace was unsure of the other boy's Pokemons' levels.

"Three on three, I think. Thanks for battling me, I could always use practice!" He chuckled at the other boy's confidence. "Oh yeah? We'll see, I guess. I can't say I'm the absolute best, but I'm pretty good," he grinned. Now... to choose what Pokémon to use...

- You'll use me, right? - Viola chimed in, her tails wagging and jingling merrily.

'Yeah, of course I will, Vi. I think you, Rowan, and Taro will do, he concluded. He waited for Raal to finish getting his Pokémon rested and singled out the other Poke Balls for battle, heart racing with excitement and nervousness. Hopefully he at least wouldn't lose terribly... and maybe have a glimmer of a chance of winning.

As Raal began to think of a general battle plan, he knew one of the Pokémon he would use already, possibly two. as for his third..well, better leave that slot open, for flexibility's sake. Buneary was going to be his first out though, and since she was feeling so hyper, she'd be hard to hit, which would MORE than make up for her lack of actual power. After all, if you can't HIT it, you can't HURT it. IF you can't HURT it, you cannot possibly HOPE to defeat it.

As for his second..Blaze would probably be a good choice, being his strongest. That, and he had a WONDERFUL habit of getting inventive. Shrugging slightly, Raal figured he'd just wing the rest of it. "I'm strong, but I'm not unbeatable. I just make it really hard, that's all." Smiling, he looked at the vulpix again. It would have flash fire, so using blazes flame on it..would not be a smart idea if she got used. As to how BIG that if was.....well he'd see soon enough.

Looking over at the counter, he'd figured it would only be a few more minutes. "So, where should the battle be? If you know a good area to fight, I'd be more than willing to check it out."
