PokéFiends is an open and expansive multi-region Pokémon roleplay that welcomes both canon and original characters. From the regions in the main games, the anime and side games, and even a bit more, you can travel anywhere.

Be wary, a darkness lurks in the night, a sinister creature haunts the edges of the moonlight. Turmoil brews, traveler, so take your first step with caution.

Four months ago, terror held the world in stand still. The attacks on both Saffron and Castelia have concluded... and despite the growing darkness, the people of the world band together to throw an event in the spirit of world unity and the courage to stand against this new foe.

You must read this post entirely before applying for a Legendary Pokémon. We encourage people to play Legendaries, but we need them to play them correctly because they are important to the workings of this forum, so the rules will be adhered to, or you could put yourself in danger of losing your position as a Legendary.

This is a heavy burden to bear, and while we ask that you not take it lightly, we do still want you to have fun. If you have any questions, feel free to PM any of the staff and they will do their best to answer them. As a further note, Legendaries do not count against the limit of canons you may have.

Rules for Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
• You can only apply for two Legendary Pokémon and you may only apply after submitting at least one Canon Character and having it be accepted by the staff. You may only have one major Legendary and one minor. The differentiations can be found on the Legendary Pokémon List.

• You will not use your Legend for god modding in battles against others, in fact, unless you have a good reason you will be inclined not to battle with Trainers at all. Reasons would include you being outright attacked and unable to run or people destroying nature or your domain.

• You will not region jump. Unless you can fly, you can not go from being in Hoenn to being in Sinnoh, and even then it's a long shot. This relates to staying in character and keeping regions balanced. In general, Legends should remain in their home regions.

• You will be the very best, like no one ever was.

The Importance of Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
As you may well know, there are a number of Legendaries and they all have, appropriately enough, legends behind their origins and powers. Many are held in a high regard, with their powers seen as being almost godlike. They are often only seen by special Trainers, who have a special connection to them or who may seek Legends, study them or simply are "chosen" by them. Villainous teams and others with bad intentions often seek them out, both due to their rarity as well as their superior power.

It has been shown that the capture of certain legendary Pokémon may lead to great catastrophe, due to their often pivotal role in nature. Some speculate, however, that if a Trainer were to "play by the rules", encountering and befriending the legendary Pokémon just the same as they would any other Pokémon, the results would not be as chaotic, if at all.

This theory possibly has some weight, as Noland befriended and fought official battles with an Articuno, while Lawrence III's capture of a Zapdos and a Moltres was one of intended dominance and collection instead. And as we know, Noland still shares a friendship with Articuno while Zapdos and Moltres nearly destroy the area they were in.

Many legendary Pokémon are shown to breed in the wild, as seen with Lugia, while none are immortal nor invincible, as seen by the death of Celebi and the injury of Arceus. Very few, in fact, are often considered unique, with only Mewtwo known to be (due to the circumstances of its creation) and Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina assumed to be, due to their role in the creation of the universe.

Still, Legends are known to have a deeper connection to nature than humans or even wild Pokémon. They effect nature and nature effects them. It could be said that Legends themselves are a force of nature rather than just a catalyst that changes the tides of the weather and season. Either way, it does go without a doubt that they are very important and pivotal beings in the world of Pokémon.

Legendaries' Genders - - - - - - - - - -
With four exceptions, Legendary Pokémon are strictly genderless in the games, meaning you would have to portray them with genderless pronouns. Due to the complications of portraying this in RP, we have decided that you can play them with gender specific pronouns (he/she) if you so choose.

Male: Articuno, Azelf, Cobalion, Darkrai, Deoxys, Dialga, Entei, Giratina, Groudon, Jirachi, Keldeo, Kyogre, Landorus, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mewtwo, Moltres, Palkia, Raikou, Rayquaza, Terrakion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Uxie, Virizion, Zapdos
Female: Celebi, Cresselia, Ho-oh, Latias, Meloetta, Mespirt, Mew, Shaymin
Genderless: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regigigas
Either: Genesect, Heatran

If you happen to not like the proposed gender for a Legendary you might be eying, you're more than welcome to debate it. Or, you can choose to make two distinct personalities/characters in your profile. So long as the "cardinal" Legend is the gender we propose, you may make the second Legend any gender you want it to be.

For example, the player of Articuno should make the main Articuno, the one that answers to Lugia, a male. But said player could have a second Articuno defined on that profile as a female. See below in the Multiple Legendaries section for more information.

Multiple Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
Some Legendaries are an actual species, and we allow whomever that applies for them to submit two distinct personalities for themselves to play, granted that they are well done. We ask that these personalities be separated in some manner on profiles, so they can be told apart. And by some means, be it text color, or by giving them sub-titles to identify (preferably related to their current titles here at PokéFiends) or both, that players differentiate between them when playing one or the other, so your fellows know which you have chosen to portray.

Legendary Multiples: Articuno, Celebi, Deoxys, Entei, Heatran, Ho-oh, Latias, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mew, Moltres, Raikou, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Suicune, Zapdos

These are the only cases that you may portray one of the personalities as the opposite gender that we specify above, should you choose to give a gender to your Legendary. (The exception being, of course, Latias and Latios.) We prefer the cardinal Legend to have our proposed gender above, though.

Shiny Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
You may make your Legendary shiny, but only if it is one of those listed above in the Multiple Legendaries section and only if it is the secondary personality, not the primary personality. This shiny Legend must be the official colors for its shiny form, not a recolor.

Capturing Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
First of all, Legends can not be captured in a Poké Ball type capsule. They can, however, be contained in some kind of cage, net, trap or similar that humans have made.

Many Teams have tried to capture the Legends before and some have even succeeded for a time. We don't expect the Teams here to give up the idea of capturing a Legend, so be careful, you people who might want to play a Legend. You may be powerful, but as Lugia in the second movie proved, Legends are not invincible nor in most cases even immortal.

It should be noted also that the capture of Legends is likely to have drastic effects on nature itself, as they hold power that changes the world.

Befriending Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
Just as a Legend can be captured, so too can it be befriended. It is up to the player of a Legend to decide whether or not they honor a friendship that's defined in the canon or not, but other than that, a Legend can befriend any human they so desire.

Another thing of note is that here at PokéFiends we don't see a relationship in when the player characters from the games captured a Legendary. We see those Legends as if they were there to help you to complete the Pokédex. (For example, the player of Gold/Jimmy wouldn't have any special relationship with Mewtwo just because you can capture Mewtwo in HGSS.)

There are canon relationships to be found in both the anime and the mangas. Examples of these include things like Noland's relationship with Articuno, or Brandon's friendship with the Regi trio. Other friendships can also exist, such as those found in the manga or when a character enteracted specifically during the plot of a game with a Legend, like Eusine with Suicune and Michael with (former) Shadow Lugia.

A final note, for relationships found in the canon are up to the player of the Legend to continue here on PokéFiends or not. If the player of Articuno, the Regis, Lugia or etc. would prefer not to play a second personality for Noland, Brandon,  Michael or etc., that is their choice. They do, however take up a place in these character's teams, despite none of them being in Poké Balls, and they also can not be played by the same RPer.

Non-canon relationships forged between a Legend and a OC or a unrelated canon, however, would not take up a position on a character's team.

Banned Legendaries - - - - - - - - - -
These Legendaries are banned from applications. You may not apply for them.

Arceus: Arceus is banned because of it's nature as a God of Pokémon. It can theoretically control everything, and would be the essence of god modding, and as such, we can not trust it to anyone's hands. Arceus is played by the mods of the site on the Arceus account.

Manaphy: Manaphy is banned because it is the Legend that gives away Phione. Once a month, Manaphy will appear before a lucky player and deliver to that player an egg containing Phione. You can find more information concerning this event in the Phione topic. Manaphy is played by the mods of the site on the Arceus account.

Phione: Phione is banned because it comes in multiples and will be played away one a month, every month to a lucky Trainer.
