Daniel stands at five feet and one inch and weighs around 105 pounds. He is very small and slim with no muscle. His brown hair is short in the front and sides so it does not get in the way of his green eyes but reaches down to to his top of his shoulders at the back. He carries a small backpack with him that carries his Poke Balls and other camping gear with his fishing rod extending from outside of it.
For clothing, Daniel wears a clean, white shirt covered by a dark green jacket. that is usually left unzipped. He also wears a pair of jean shorts that reach down to his knees. Finally, he wears an old pair of blue running shoes with white socks. His slingshot that he uses to help catch Pokémon can be seen sticking out of his front right pocket.

Daniel is kind hearted and tends to be friendly to whoever he meets on his journey. He is fascinated by new experiences and often daydreams about what awaits him the next day. He is persistent, and will do whatever it takes to complete his goals, even when faced with opposition. Despite having big dreams and expectations of himself, he is rather humble and does not tend to boast.
Yet, Daniel is very naive and rather inexperienced with the world, which others can use to their advantage when dealing with him. Although he is rather trusting, he knows right from wrong and that some people are not good people. Although he does not consider himself to be brave, he is willing to stand up for himself and close friends.

Daniel was born in Pallet Town to Vernon and Elaine Hughes. With Vernon was mainly focused with his job as an assistant at Oak's Laboratory, Elaine was left to raise their son by herself. Being a former trainer, she took Daniel on several trips during his early childhood, yet the farthest they ever went was Pewter City. Even with the trips becoming repetitive, he became fascinated by the world. These trips would come to an end when he was enrolled in school after turning six.
For his eighth birthday, Elaine decided to take Daniel on a much shorter trip to go fishing by a small pond. After a few hours of waiting, he felt a bite on the end of his line. Excited, he reeled his catch in and successfully caught a Magikarp. Proud of her son, Elaine gave him a Poké Ball to officially capture the Fish Pokémon. After the weekend, Daniel was quick to show his first Pokémon to his class, yet he was made fun of for catching something so useless. Despite his fellow students making fun of the Fish Pokémon, he decided to keep Magikarp around.
When Daniel was 11, his class went on a field trip to Oak's Laboratory. Bored of the guided tour and wanting to meet the famous Pokémon Professor, he snuck off from the group to do his own exploring. Eventually, he found his father and Professor Oak. Although Vernon scolded his son for sneaking off from his class, Oak told Daniel to come back after school. He did so, meeting the professor, who encouraged the youth to travel around Kanto. Before heading back home, Professor Oak gave him a Pokédex and Bulbasaur to help him start out on his journey.
Daniel told his parents about his plans to fill out the Pokédex by collecting all the Pokémon in Kanto. Elaine supported him to follow his dreams but Vernon believed he was wasting his time. To prove his intentions, Daniel decided to catch a Pokémon on his own. Weakening a wild Pokémon was easy with Bulbasaur, yet the youth struggled when it came to throwing a Poké Ball, which allowed for his target to escape. It would be two years later when Daniel finally overcame his weakness by using a slingshot to launch Poke Balls, allowing him to capture a Rattata. Finally proving himself, Vernon allowed for his son to leave home. Daniel now sets out on his journey, ready to capture any wild Pokémon he comes across.

Daniel knew that he would have to make the capture now. Bulbasaur had the wild Rattata pinned with his vines, He chucked the Poké Ball towards the wild Pokémon only for it to curve and strike a tree instead. He sighed, already expecting this result. No matter what, he just could not throw anything accurately, even when the target was standing perfectly still. Daniel ran towards the tree and quickly picked the Poké Ball back up. The good news was that it survived the impact and remained intact. The bad news was that Rattata broke free from Bulbasaur's vines.
Daniel noticed that the wild Pokémon was limping and realized that this would be his final attempt at a capture. Instead of throwing the Poké Ball like before, he decided it was time to go with Plan B. The youth pulled his handmade slingshot from his back pocket, quickly putting the Poké Ball in the leather pouch. Pulling back on it, he took a moment to aim at the fleeing Rattata. He was going to capture the Wild Pokémon this time.
"Got ya!" Daniel exclaimed, releasing the leather pouch.
The Poké Ball shot towards and landed on Rattata's back. The wild Pokémon was drawn into the device by a white beam. It shook for a moment followed by a click to finish the capture. Daniel cheered, jumping up and down in the air while Bulbasaur secured the Poké Ball with his vines. He was excited that he finally overcame his weakness and captured a new Pokémon. Now with his trusty slingshot, Daniel was ready to catch more Pokémon.
