Magnemite: Magnemite once belonged to Gus's uncle Duncan. Still, it is very loyal to both its old and new trainer. It is very excited whenever it is sent out into a battle. It is also very social to people and other trainers alike. Gus hopes that this Pokémon will be a good friend and fighter when it comes to battles. Ability: Sturdy Move Pool: Tackle, Supersonic, Thunder Shock, Sonic Boom, Thunder Wave Poochyena [Female]: Poochyena was captured in Route 101. She is a fierce fighter when she is in a battle. However, she is also very disobedient to her trainer, either refusing to follow commands or doing something entirely different. Gus hopes that she will start to follow his commands soon, which may be an advantage for both of them. Ability: Quick Feet Move Pool: Tackle, Howl, Sand Attack, Bite Mudkip [Male]: Mudkip was given to Gus by Professor Birch during the former's visit to Littleroot Town. Mudkip, although loyal, is quite a troublemaker. The Mud Fish Pokémon enjoys messing with not only his trainer, but everyone else, including both other trainers and Pokémon. He is new to battling, but is eager to learn. His trainer can stand the jokes he plays, and hopes that he'll become a fierce fighter for his team. Ability: Torrent Move Pool: Tackle, Growl, Water Gun, Mud Slap

On a normal day, Gus wears a regular gray T-shirt with blue jeans. Sometimes, he may wear a black jacket with a hood, although he mainly wears this during bad weather. When he isn't using his jacket, it would be in his backpack. Finally, he wears red running shoes with regular white socks.

Gus is very kind to both people and Pokémon. However, he is very shy as well, and usually prefers to spend time with his Pokémon or himself rather than with actual people. Although he recently started his journey as a trainer, he is always excited for a battle. He knows he'll make some mistakes as a trainer, but is confident that he'll also learn from his journey.
Gus is honest and loyal to the friends he makes. He is intelligent in the basics of Pokémon battles, with his uncle teaching parts of it during his few yearly visits. He is also considered brave, but would rush into problems without thinking ahead of time. He can remain calm in almost any situation. Although sometimes he can be friendly, he's also very serious most of the time.

Gus was born in Lumiose City in the Kalos region. His father, Adam, was a successful businessman in that region. His mother, Alexandria, was a former Pokémon Trainer from Hoenn. Life was good for the Ressop family for a few years after his birth. However, his parents were divorced to which he never knew the reason why. Although his mother decided he could use the Ressop name, he was still going to move to her hometown back in Hoenn. He left Kalos at the age of seven, and never saw his father after that.
For the rest of his childhood, Gus lived at Oldale Town. He never actually received the chance to make new friends, mainly because never left the house under his mother's advise. When he was nine, he was able to see a Pokémon battle between two trainers. It was then when he expressed a desire to become a trainer. However, Alexandria told him that he would never make it as a trainer. He believed her at the time, but still expressed a desire to become a trainer, and received the support of another family member.
Duncan Adrina is the uncle of Gus, and a Pokémon Trainer in the Kanto region. Whenever he visits the Hoenn region, he told his uncle that he wanted to be a trainer one day. Duncan helped his nephew a year later on his eleventh birthday, by providing him his first Pokémon, a Magnemite. Alexandria was furious at her older brother, and still forbid her son from going this journey. His uncle later told him that the reason his mother didn't want him to become a trainer was because when she was a trainer, her first Pokémon died of an illness.
Gus didn't see his uncle for several years after he gave him Magnemite. The Pokémon bonded with its new trainer rather quickly, but Gus never had the chance to use it during a battle. Duncan returned years later, when his nephew was seventeen, with the intention of getting Gus started on his journey. He was able to successfully convince Alexandria to let him go on his journey, and they both informed him of this. Before his uncle left, he challenged Gus to a Pokémon battle with a new Pokémon he captured, a Grimer. Although it was a close match, but in the end he won. The next day, his uncle left for Kanto to go on another journey while Gus prepared for his.

Gus woke up early in the morning, the sun was still rising in the distance. He got out of his bed and changed out of his green pajamas and into his regular clothing. Rubbing his eyes, he walked outside. His mother was sleeping right now, and wouldn't let him outside this early. However, things are changing as he walked outside.
On a nearby path in Oldale Town was his uncle. Duncan stood at least a foot taller than Gus, and spiky white hair added a few more inches to his height. Even with it being this early, he still wore a white suit with a black tie. He couldn't tell if he was tired or not, covering his eyes with sunglasses. He was tossing a Poké Ball up and down in the air.
"Well, its about time you got out of bed, kept me waking for almost two hours." Duncan said to his nephew.
"I'm surprised that you're not tired." Gus replied back.
"When you're as old and experienced as I am, you learn new things, but that isn't the point. You have your Magnemite, right?" Duncan asked, and Gus pulled out his Poké Ball, nodding. Suddenly, his uncle threw the Poké Ball in his hand up into the air, releasing a Grimer. He also released Magnemite from its Poké Ball after he was gestured to do so.
"Now, we're going to have a battle. Rules are simple, one on one, and I'll be going easy on you." He explained to Gus, who nodded. He was excited for his first Pokémon battle, even though it was against a veteran trainer who was going easy on him. "Now, I'll let you go first since you're new at this." He said, waiting.
