As the two boys walked onward, each step becoming easier than the last for Jakk, the sun cast a brilliant glow over the lush growth of Route 29. Cynda pounced along behind him, tailing him faithful and with a definite bounce in her movements. There was excitement in the air for the little Pokémon. Finally her Trainer had found a friend to travel with, and finally, after a month of watching the boy panic at the entrance to his hometown, he would be on his way. Jakk had walked on in silence, following Ellix at first with a smile as the boy took mock shocked offense to Jakk's answer to the boy's dramatic question. Finally, Jakk hazarded a question. "So where are you from, Ellix?" Jakk figured, you know, first things first. Might as well get life stories out of the way. After all, Ellix was, more or less, a complete stranger... and if Ellix revealed he was from Murder-Mc.-Murder Town, Jakk might just turn right back around and wait for the next over excitable person to come out of Professor Elm's lab. ---- Cynda reached Level 10! Cynda learned Ember! ---- |

"So where are you from, Ellix?" Ellix looked over at his shoulder upon hearing a voice speaking to him. "Hm? Oh. I was born and raised in Cherrygrove - but I hate it there. Everyone is so mean." For all the money in the world, he wanted to have an actual conversation with this boy. Jakk was the first person he had met in a long time that looked like he would properly speak and listen to him, but something held him back. Whether it was that he didn't know what to say, or that he felt awkward, nothing would mix to form questions. He had only just met the boy, and perhaps that was what the problem was. He was glad that he wasn't the one to ask the first question, though, as they continued to walk in silence while he conjured up more potential questions in his head and then did nothing as they quickly faded from memory. His only real choice was to reciprocate. "How about you? New Bark, I'm guessing?" |

"I was New Bark, born and raised, yes. It's pretty lively there, what with the Pokémon Lab... but it's hard to make friends with everyone leaving all the time, you know?" Jakk smiled, his hair tousled by the wind as he did so. Even the grass itself swayed as he spoke. ...Wait, no, that swaying grass was moving for some other reason. There before him, a small Furret was within the fabled tall grass. Without thinking about it or asking Ellix if he might want to, you know, catch the first Pokémon they'd seen, the shier boy grinned and looked down at his Cyndaquil. "Cynda, ready for a shot at what we're out here for?" "Quil!" With that, the Cyndaquil leaped ahead and puffed up her little chest. Jakk crossed his fingers and ordered, "Cynda! Use Ember." The little echinda Pokémon exhaled gustily, flames kicking up out of her mouth and blossoming towards the Furret. So Jakk's first real Pokémon battle was to begin.

It all happened so fast! They were just walking along and then the next thing he knew, his travelling partner had caught a Furret. An actual real life, up close Furret! It looked impressive, and its coat was immaculate. Ellix was doubtful that he would even see any Pokémon on his way back to Cherrygrove, but obviously, he was wrong. He was wrong because not only did he get a chance to see one, but he watched one get caught too. That was something he'd never seen. Suddenly, Jakk had ignited a flame inside him that moved him to want to find lots of Pokémon. Loads of Pokémon. Everywhere he went, he wanted to find one in every place - if only to make sure Jakk didn't jump the gun before he had a chance to like on this occasion. It was okay; he wasn't bitter at all. He could just hardly believe that before he barely had an opportunity to turn around and properly see and register what it was and what was going on, his Cyndaquil had started battling it. "You did it! You actually caught it! That's, erm, that's your first caught Pokémon though, right? Don't forget this moment - just don't forget it, okay? Treasure it. And keep this Pokémon with you when you feel sad. What are... what are you gonna call it?" That Furret was pretty weak right now, after being set aflame by his Cyndaquil. Cynda was a tiny little thing, but she had some serious power behind her. That was probably the most shocking thing to see - both he and Lady Passionfruit were very impressed. Glancing down at her, it made Ellix wonder what Pokémon he would catch first. It was exciting to consider. ---- Jakk found an Oran Berry! Lady Passionfruit reached Level 10! ---- |

Jakk smiled serenely at Ellix, still in a bit of a daze from the fight and the success of it all. "Thanks... and I will! S-sorry I jumped the gun on you!" At that, his smile wavered a bit, but then it grew again. Ellix didn't seem angry in the least bit, not judging from his excited reaction. Still, it would be best to apologize for the sake of being nice. Tucking the newly filled capsule into his pocket, Jakk knelt and scooped up Cynda cuddling her close like a plushie. She was hurt and her nose sorely needed attention from the nearest Pokémon Center, but it was nothing major and there was no reason to return her to her capsule. Besides, she hated it in there. "Next 'mon we see is yours. I promise, Ellix." ---- Cynda reached Level 11! ---- |

"Heh. I don't mind at all. Let's, uh..?" He nodded towards the rest of the trail. It wasn't much farther now until they reached Cherrygrove, bearing in mind that they had been walking for a fair bit before the Furret fiasco. Lady Passionfruit followed behind keenly, very pleased with the spectacle that she had just witnessed. She couldn't wait to show everyone what she could do too. She had already learned a lot while travelling with Ellix, Jakk and Cynda, and they only left about three-quarters of an hour ago. Ellix could see the trees jutting farther and farther apart from each other, and it was clear that this route was coming to its end - the city was just up ahead. But this had been an exciting and interesting first path for him. Though Jakk promised the next Pokémon they saw would be his, there was really no proper way of promising that. Maybe it would be too strong for Lady Passionfruit, and it would be better for Jakk to take it on. He was the one with the fully-evolved Pokémon now, after all! He didn't mind at all. He was just excited to be travelling - especially with someone else! "Anyway, you didn't answer my question! What are you gonna call your Furret?!" |

"Anyway, you didn't answer my question! What are you gonna call your Furret?!" "Oh! Sorry. I missed it. Uhmm..." Jakk smiled thoughtfully and looked ahead as they continued to walk towards Cherrygrove. What was he going to call this Pokémon, his second Pokémon ever? That was a very good question. He was silent for a few minutes as the trees thinned out and the road widened. The fragrance of cherry blossoms began to perfume the air. The road was coming to an end and they were about the cross into Cherrygrove itself when Jakk finally spoke up again. "Furra, I think. I like the way that sounds." With that, Jakk glanced up at Ellix with a grin... then looked ahead. The Pokémon Center! Oh. That was right! He should definitely take Furra to the Center and get him all healed up. Cherrygrove City, the second town on the start of their very long journey had been reached! |
