falling in the black ; slipping through the cracks; -Tin!-

Nick absolutely hated what was going on here at Hogwarts. For so long, he had heard that this was a wonderful place of learning, and magic, and he would have a fantastic experience. He'd heard the food was good, he'd make a bunch of new friends, and they would terrorize the school just like Nick and Tin terrorized at home. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case. The headmaster had implemented a new regime, which included gruel, gruel, and more gruel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, new classes, with old classes tossed out, some of which Nick had really wanted to take. He supposed now, his father would have to hire a private tutor for him.

After his dinner, which consisted of gruel, Nick stumbled into the common room and threw himself down on one of the couches in a huff. He couldn't do anything about it now, at any rate. Best to just make do with what he had...and subvert the system at all costs. He needed real food.

Quentin wasn't sure how much more he was going to be able to take of this. This was not what he had expected of Hogwarts, far from it. Nothing was what had been to described to him. If Quentin had known they would be stuck eating gruel all day he definatly would have never waited 11 years to get here. And the Headmaster, his ideals were just unnatural. After that first sports class, he could have sworn he would never run again, and he liked sports, just not that much activity all at once.

But at last someplace where he wouldn't have to run or eat gruel. Quentin stopped in front of the Slytherin Common Room entrance, speaking the password and made his way inside. He dropped his nag on the floor and was about to flop down on the couch but just in time he saw it was occupied.

"Always going for the bigger couch just like home?" Quentin spoke as he flopped down on another couch, wishing he could get some real food.

Nick was tempted to write his father to just come and get him, and get him some private tutors at him. He didn't care to be a soldier, and he certainly didn't care to support any cause that the headmaster supported, especially since the guy was a lunatic. Nick was tired, worn out first from the sports class, and then the subsequent survival class, which ended with a disastrous romp through the forest, in which the Headmaster and Master Brannan had called to a halt immediately.

Nick looked up as the door opened to the common room. For a moment, it was like looking at himself, a sort of out of body experience. Except, that he wasn't looking at himself, he was looking at his twin brother, Quentin Blackwood, whom Nick called Tin. He smiled as Tin teased him, and said, "Oh, you know it, little brother." Course, it was only by two minutes, but all the same. "Was your day as hellish as mine?"

Quentin turned to look at his brother, you would have thought that after so long it would not be so weird but from time to time Quentin would just find it strange to look at his brother and see himself. Not that he minded, of course, having a twin always did have its perks.

"I don't think hellish could cover it. I don't know about you but I did not expect... well I didn't expect this. I know dad did not like Dumbledore but this guy? What was the Ministry thinking?"

"I don't know, Tin. I can't speak for the ministry, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to." He twisted until he was laying down on the sofa instead of sitting up. His head was hurting, it had been too long of a day. He looked up and attempted to count the cracks on the ceiling. "Sometimes, I wish that Father would come and get us and take us home. I think I prefer private tutors to this, at the very least."

"At least we wouldn't have to run, or be threatened with beatings. Well at least not as bad as these seem to be." he said knowing his father was a very stern and tough man. He made sure hs children were to be respectable members of society.

Quentin looked over at his brother, "You're not looking so hot. Something wrong?"he asked curiously

"Yeah," Nick said, in response to Tin's comments about beatings and the like, "Besides, we've mostly grown out of the beatings, since our behaviour is up to par." That was true. He had no issues with James Blackwood, though...he cared very deeply for his father..and he was sure that Tin did as well. But, Quentin was now asking if something was wrong, and Nick didn't know how to explain. "Do you remember Master Harshing talking about Naturalists?" he asked.

Quentin recalled that awful day in transfiguration. It had been his first class that term and he was terrified at having been expected to know so much. Of course he never showed it but that was besides the point. He thought back to Master Harshing's lesson, oh right, how coul he have forgotten that.

"If I remember, it was something along the lines of 'If you meet a naturalist kill it.'" he said in a matter of factual way. "Of cours he was a whole lot more crazy when he said it. Why?"
