2.1 Firefly A tiny flicker of light in a void of darkness --------------- A firefly bobs and weaves through the darkness, its tiny light dipping and blinking. Leo is captivated by this tiny nuance of beauty in this dark haven of doom and gloom. The dim light flickers briefly in front of his face, illuminating the gems in his eyes, making them glimmer. Whether they glimmer of their own accord or whether it is a mere reflection is anybody's guess. Leo watches the tiny light brightening and dimming...like an almost alien semaphore— he sees the light illuminate the face of his so-called comrade, as Bella blinks curiously at the sudden ominous darkness. The light floats towards Kutner, and Leo can see the light reflected in his eyes. And for a single moment, he can see ruined battlefields, black-and-white photos of blood on the ground and smoke in the air. He blinks for a moment, and suddenly the sensation is gone, leaving him in a puzzled mess. Leo tries to reach out to grab the light...and, inadvertently, the excess force he puts into the thrust forwards results in a squashed bug in his hands. Leo makes a grimace and a gross sound, wiping off the remains of the insect from his hands. The light flickers...for just a second...before fading, plunging them all into the darkness again. "Somewhere, you are depriving a village of their idiot," Kutner remarked, shaking his head at the ghost type. "How the hell are we supposed to see down here? Please, please tell me that you've got a light-switch for those flourescent bulbs that you call eyes." Leo had to smirk at this. I'm telling you. We are now so in sync that we're even wearing the same underwear. He paused for a moment to catch the one-second grimace that flashed across Kutner's face before it was replaced with an amused smirk. Leo squinted into the darkness, in such a manner that it caused the gems in his eyes and on his chest to light up slightly...just enough to get a good view of the valley that was so obscured by the darkness. Where to, Steve Irwin? |

Unfortunately, Leo's light was much too dim to be of much use to you. How it got so dark so quickly after just recently exiting the sunny and cheery Flowery Slopes was beyond your comprehension, but it seemed that it only got dark the further you went down the hill. Bella widened her eyes, trying to see through the dim light that managed to get down here. She could not see where she was going, and since you could not really see her either, she bumped into something. Sentret!

Bella leapt back with a whine, looking up to see her trainer's reaction. If he could, Leo would have rolled his eyes. Oh please...it's just a little ferret thing, he snarled at Bella, a hint of a sneer on his face. The way you act as if it's going to eat you or something. Bella gave him a long hard glare at this. She then looked up at her trainer and puffed out her little chest in pride, indicating that she wanted to fight. Kutner raised an eyebrow, considering this. "Someone needs their daily helping of fresh carnage, aye?" He gave a shrug of approval. "Eh, why not? Need something to keep us occupied in this wild old place, he remarked, adding a drop of sarcasm to the last bit. Leo was suddenly adamant about this. Kutner, you just captured the little brat. Let her get her beauty rest in her Pokeball like a good trainer would do, why don't you?" Kutner snorted. "Of course. Killer needs her rest. Otherwise she's grumpy all day." Giving Leo an amused smirk, he responded, "What're you complaining about? You're actually ticked off that I'm not letting you fight? After all that complaining about how lousy I am with battle commands? Do I sense some hypocrisy from he-who-so-despises-hypocrites?" Leo chose to respond with a slight snarl under his breath. Kutner looked at Bella, who was watching him with an innocent stare. "You're not getting any sympathy from me," he said grumpily. "So if you want to fight, just say so. Quit the cheesy routine." Bella quit the act at once and hopped forth. "Start off with a Razor Leaf...but mercenary style. Kinda like how you sprung that one on us back there," he beckoned to himself and Leo, who was still glaring at him maliciously. |

Bella reddened a small bit, proud of the compliment it was given, although in the darkness it was hard to tell anything at all. Bella tilted her head back and then quickly swung it forward, letting small sharp leaves leave the main leaf on its head. The small leaves raced through the thick dark air and sliced Sentret, hitting the Pokémon hard and leaving some slight gashes. At this, the Sentret tensed and got ready to attack. It raced towards Bella, letting a paw come up and then he sliced Bella with the fury of... a squirrel-thingy. Chikorita winced in pain as a small trickle of blood ran down her face. Jeez, and most kids think that Pokémon battles are all fun and games, Leo remarked, being able to see pretty well due its natural habitat being dark crevices in caves anyway. If kids were allowed to see how gory this stuff can really be... then again, being scratched doesn't affect me at all. Shows how awesome I am. |

"I can make a coin come out of a kid's ear," Kutner added snarkily. "Yet I don't expect a medal for it. Neither should you." With all the boasting you do, why do you have a problem when somebody else does it? Leo remarked testily. "You call that boasting? Well fine, maybe you can't be scratched, but that doesn't make up for the rest of your flaws in combat," Kutner said simply. Yet you think that shrub-with-legs is a good combatant...why ? "I never said that," Kutner responded. "Which is why we're fighting now. Its a test." Again with that famous smirk. He called out to Bella once again. "Vine Whip the squirrel, and use Razor Leaf to fend off any direct blows." |

Bella heard the comments from Leo, and she now needed to prove that she was the better combatant. A vine appeared from what seemed like nowhere due to the velocity of which it came out and whacked Sentret hard in the stomach. The scout Pokémon flinched with the impact of the blow as any Pokémon would have ('cept maybe like a Steelix... meh.), but retaliated quickly by using Scratch yet again. As it raced towards your Grass-type, she unleashed a storm of leaves at the squirrel-thing. The Sentret, thinking on its feet (or maybe its tail, it was dark out), rolled up in a ball, letting the Defense Curl lessen the damage from the razor-sharp leaves. It then came out of its ball form and followed through on its Scratch, getting Belladonna in the leaf this time. Due to this, Bella acted on her own and used Tackle, ramming it down into the ground. No one was going to mess with her precious leaf. |

Kutner was impressed and gave a curt nod of approval. In Kutner-speak, this was the equivalent of a complement. He always liked Pokemon who could think on their own and mix things up a little. That surprise Tackle Attack was certainly his kind of stylish, under-handed maneuver. He had to smirk a little; was he rubbing off on his Pokemon that much already? Cool. Now, to practice that maneuver that he had seen Bella show off before. Of course, it would require perfecting but..."All right. Let's test out that Frenzy Plant attack of yours. Here's the deal. Use Razor Leaf to immobilize it and prevent it from escaping, and then draw up the vines from the ground like you did before." He wasn't exactly sure how much practice Bella would need...if any...or how he would go about training it so it could perfect the attack. Kutner smirked. Well I'm in no rush. Not yet, anyway. Who am I supposed to be rooting for... Leo responded almost inaudibly, eyes glittering maliciously. We'll just see. We're in the dark, see. Here, I'm in my element. Wait till we find a more intimidating opponent. Then we'll see whose smirking..." Kutner smirked slightly, a corner of his mouth quirking upwards in an amused manner. Leo was displaying a competitive edge? Well, now this would be interesting. And prove to be useful at the same time. S'long as they're trying to out-compete one another, I won't have to worry about incompetence in battle. Cool. |

[Remember, Bella is naturally fiesty so she's going to try and get the advantage no matter what. If it means surprise Tackles, then it's surprise Tackles.] Sentret panted a little, exhausted by the battle so far, but he was not one to give up. He rocketed at Bella before she could react at the speed of light (or what seemed like it) and collided into her with Quick Attack. Bella got back up and threw its Razor Leaves at the Sentret, slicing it some more. Sentret was hurt, and he didn't have time to react after Bella started her next move, the infamous Frenzy Plant. It will be a wonder how Bella acquired the ability to use this one [right Acredula? *throws Metagross*], but the Chikorita concentrated and used the move, making thick vines spawn from the earth. They slapped Sentret decently and sent him flying a few feet - you were pretty sure she could've done better with a Vine Whip. Although you could not see, Belladonna was sweating bullets. She had to lie down and rest after an attack that costs as much energy as that. |

Which is perfect for someone like Kutner ^^ --------------------------------------- Kutner frowned slightly to himself, irritated by his sudden mental lapse. He had been so eager to see this newfound power...a power that was now in his command...that he had forgotten a key point. Frenzy Plant had severely depleted Bella of some much-needed energy. Not to mention, she would spend a full turn recharging, allowing Sentret to come in for the kill. "Least we know it works," Kutner nodded approvingly. "So that means we can save it for when its really necessary. Or unless she gets the guts enough to use it without killing herself." He added, earning a smirk from Leo. "Not that it really makes a difference. Soon as you're up to it, heal up with Synthesis, and then use your Vine Whip." he stifled a yawn. Leo frowned again, rolling the gems in its eyes in exasperation. At the rate we're going, we'll never make it out of here. This place is boring as hell. No interesting people or Pokemon for miles, I'll bet. All the smart ones became dumbed down because they were unfortunately captured by idiotic trainers. Forced into servitude. Disgusting, Leo said, with a slightly melancholy tone. "Yet you've stuck around with me for this long. Should I be flattered?" Kutner ran a hand absently though his thick cobalt hair, his eyes gazing off distractedly into the distance. Leo snarled without response. |

[I'm still wondering myself why Leo hasn't like ran away yet. Wait a minute, I am the mod...
No, I'm not that mean *shot by Acredula*, but I'm sure you know that Leo really does like Kutner a lot.]Bella was sprawled on the ground thoroughly exhausted by the battle so far, especially from the brutal monster that is the Frenzy Plant. As she sat and tried to recover from said move, she mentally took a note of your orders, so she could use them when she could stand up again. Sentret was a really boring Pokémon. Not being able to think of any other move to attack with, he came at Bella again with yet another Scratch. She tried to pull up a Reflect to prevent her from taking too much damage in this exposed state, but it was small and Sentret easily broke through it, although it did lessen the impact of the blow. He scratched her right along the side, causing a small amount of blood to start seeping out. |

Yep, yep. They're both fascinated by one another, reallyAnd . Kutner isn't a typical trainer (far from it) and Leo isn't a typical Pokemon. And of course, they'd both be the last people to admit that they like something ^^ Kutner frowned at the Sentret, his face twitching in a manner that made him look particularly ticked off. "If you're gonna be stubborn at least switch up your battle style a little. Your moves are as stale as the moldy cheese I put in Wilson's fridge last year. Course, he still hasn't figured out where the smell is coming from..." Kutner added thoughtfully, a smirk floating across his face. He managed to mutter, "Keep at it. Vine Whip to immobilize it and then Razor Leaf." Leo tipped one head to the side. It was scary how much this guy reminded him of himself. That's nothing. You should've seen the time I stuck a banana peel in one of the CPUs. The explosion wasn't nearly as big as I was hoping for, but it was fun to watch the suckers run around like chickens with their heads cut off. "Somehow I get the feeling that you hate authority. Or you're a sadistic little bastard. Or maybe both." Takes one to know one. Kutner merely responded with a grin. |

[Haha. Poor Wilson. ^_^] Bella slowly got up, rested as much as it could be from the Frenzy Plant. Sentret decided to use its other favorite move, Quick Attack, in an attempt to surprise Bella. The Chikorita, planning on using Synthesis, ditched the action at the last moment and let out a vine to stop Sentret in his tracks. The rat-thing collided with Bella's vine, causing it to fall down. Bella decided that now would be the best time to use Synthesis. She glew a pale green - it was the first time you could see her well upon entering the valley - but the light, or lack thereof, made it hard to regain much HP. As the Sentret got up, she launched a Razor Leaf at it with all of her might, but the rodent evaded most of them in the dark, leading to only a few slicing into the Pokémon. Sentret ran up and used Scratch yet again on Bella, although she was ready for it and jumped out of the way, stumbling on a rock in the process, though safe from the Sentret. |

Ohh, there are so many things Kutner's done to the poor man, its not even funny. The moldy cheese is particularly...'tame' in Kutner's POV. ^^ Kutner's expression suddenly lit up, his eyes narrowing and a devilish smirk floating up his face. To add to the lightbulb expression, he uttered his favorite expression of approval: the very juvenile-sounding, "Cool." His head then snapped upwards again as he tried to make out the faint form of Bella through the darkness. "Do it again. The Synthesis I mean." Sure, smart plan, genius. Heal up a sliver of damage and get hit again. I stand in awe of your deductive reasoning. "I stand in awe of your ignorance," Kutner responded listlessly. "Simple means behind the method. Synthesis lights up the cavern a little, and Sentret will naturally come towards the light in an attempt to land a hit. Upon which he'll be smacked into oblivion with Vine Whip." He paused, looking interested. "Why d'you care anyway? Suddenly developed a crush on the Killer?" Leo shot his trainer the filthiest look he could muster. You say that again and I'll personally gouge your eyes out. And no, I was just making sure you weren't going all softie all of a sudden. Wanted to make sure your brutal side still shone strong. "How sweet. I may just need a motion-sickness bag," Kutner responded sarcastically. Leo merely smirked and shook his head. |

[It's not really a cavern, it's just the mysteriously dark side of the hill. I like to think that the Flowery Slopes blocks out the sun. Or something. IDK. It's maaaaagic.] Bella was tired, but she knew that she almost had this battle in the metaphorical bag, and she was not willing to give up just yet. She used the healing move again, healing a small amount of damage, and glowing the pale green like last time. Sentret found Bella easily and in a last ditch effort tried to run in for a Scratch attack. Just as he came in contact, however, Bella took out her vines and slapped Sentret hard across the face, causing another stream of blood you could not see. Sentret was too tired to battle anymore, and used the last of its energy to run away before it fainted. Winner! Belladonna grew to Level 5! [I think. ^_^] Bella stood there smugly, basking in the warm rays of her glory, which were, once again, metaphorical, seeing as it was dark out. |

Oh, heh, oops ^^ We'll pretend Kutner thinks its a cavern. Or its a metaphorical cavern ;P Being pathetic is nothing to celebrate about, Leo snarled harshly. What, it took you like ten hits to take out the shrimp? Even after a so-called powerful Frenzy Plant? Belladonna gave a nasty expression that a Gengar would have been proud of. She snapped something back at Leo, waving her leaf threateningly. "OY! What the hell are you two doing!?" Kutner snarled, his voice echoing among the darkness. Getting ready to brawl, Leo said nastily. Do I need your permission or something, master? "Oh well, don't let me get in the way of your little skirmish," Kutner said sarcastically, wearing an expression that clearly said, 'I've had enough'. "You guys can continue your little brawl here for all I care. Just don't expect me to stick around and see who wins or anything. I've got better things to do with my life." He began to shuffle off into the darkness. Bella immediately broke her posture and called out after her Trainer, her pride shining through her will to fight. Leo paused for a moment, staring a the enigma of darkness surrounding him before his eyes flickered towards the enigma who was walking away from him. Choosing one enigma over the other, he clambered after Kutner, with a raspy, Wait up, moron! My legs are shorter than yours...oh I forgot, common courtesy doesn't exist in your vocabulary. Nor in your universe". "Picking up quickly, aren't we?" Kutner said cheerfully, a leer on his face. They walked onwards into the darkness. Notice the word choice in Leo's second dialogue ^^ |
