Information about each species residing within Once and Before. Ascended Looking roughly like an octopus made of light, ascended beings were once mortal creatures who have shed their 'coils' and have undergone a physical and spiritual transformation. They can pass between the World and the Beyond at will and tend to be neutral as a point. If they wish to fully interact with the mortal realm, they must give up the vast knowledge they have acquired in order to ascend in the first place. Once mortal, they can be harmed like anyone else. Essentially, they are once again human/shifter/furry. If a vampire ascends, returning to the mortal realm will see them once again a mortal as well. In order to return to their ascended status, they must repeat the act of gaining knowledge and oneness, just as they did the first time. Celestials Angel- Angels can only pass from Beyond to the World by invocation. Typically, they have wings and a 'light' appearance, but not always. They tend to be guardians and general do-gooders. Demon- Demons can only pass from Beyond to the World by invocation. Typically, they have horns, cloven hooves, and spike-tipped tails. Their appearances are generally 'dark', but not always. They tend to be 'bad guys' and are usually supposed to hurt people. Elemental- Elementals can pass between Beyond and the World at their whim. They tend to be neutral and can look a variety of ways. Each elemental tends to lean toward one specific element or aspect of nature, making them as unique as fingerprints. Elementals can consist of fairies, nymphs, driads, elves, 'salamanders', gnomes, trolls, ogres, sylphs, or a number of other fantastical creatures. Dead Permanent Dead- Permanent dead are just that. They reside explicitly in the Beyond, unless they're ghosts, locked to a specific place and repeating the same pattern over and over. They tend to be washed out in color and appearance, the use of greys and muted colors a recurring theme. They come from any and all time periods from pre-history right up to present time and co-exist peacefully-for the most part. Jumpers- Jumpers are the dead who have a pre-disposition to manipulating the threads separating Beyond from the World. They can only be in the World for two months at a time. Then they must return to Beyond for two months. They can come from any time period as well. They can communicate and interact with the living/undead. Their appearances are incredibly diverse, however their colors appear muted and 'washed out', making them easy to loose in a crowd or to be overlooked. Humans Humans are the ordinary, every day, run of the mill normal denizens of the World. Their appearances are very diverse. They have average abilities and weaknesses. They cannot pass into the Beyond unless they die. Shifters Shifters are humans who have the ability to shift into an animal. Most people know of werewolves, but they come in many different varieties, including were-pumas, were-rabbits, and were-rats. They're about twice as strong as a human and heal in half the time. Furries Similar to shifters, furries are born seemingly caught in a perpetual mid-shift. They retain human like qualities such as general height, build and weight. They walk, talk, and act just like humans, but look more like their animal counterparts, sporting tails, claws, scales, wings, beaks, muzzles and fur. They heal just as slowly as a human, but generally possess extra-ordinary traits such as enhanced strength, speed, hearing, or agility. This usually depends on the breed of animal they resemble. Unfortunately, this also means that they possess the specific animal's weaknesses as well. Vampires Vampires are humans who have been turned undead by already existing vampires. They are at least twice as strong as humans and heal in a quarter of the time, if that. Their appearances are very diverse, and some can be extremely old. Hybrids Hybrids are characters who have parents from different 'species'. For example, a celestial and a human. One parent must be a human for a character to truly be hybrid. Hybrids within the same 'species', such as a demon/angel, or two separate elementals are called hybrids as well, but are not true hybrids. In order to have a character be 'quartered', the character must be born through roleplay (i.e. 1/4 human, 1/4 demon, 1/4 air elemental, 1/4 water elemental). |
