The Women's Beginner Ride was a blast! I picked up my bike at HQ around 8:15am and proceed to go down the hill on Rt 195 wondering if I made a mistake coming out. It was really cold. My hands were frozen and I was chilled by the time I was at the bottom of the hill and I wondered if anyone would show up at the meeting spot. I waited in the parking lot for a few minutes and then I saw a familiar face! Glad to see another biker, Sue and I rode around the parking lot a few lapse waiting to see if anyone else was brave enough to go out. As we chatted, anxious to start the ride, I couldn't help notice that we looked like a determined group of swarming bees with our yellow Nerac jackets, circling around the early risers going to workout at the gym that morning. Sue and I started the ride at 8:40 am on a cold, cloudy and breezy day. Once we started down Goose Lane, we quickly warmed up and decided to do the Broadway route with a little extra. We did the typical route through the neighborhood, down Broadway and out to Rt 31 where we continued to Reed Road and then down Old Post Road to the Tolland Green where Sue and I decided to part. She went home and I hauled up the hill to Nerac. We ended up going about 18 miles all together. It was perfect timing because it started drizzling just as I pulled into the parking lot and then it rained for the rest of the day. But I was so glad that we had the opportunity to get the exercise in. It is truly good therapy. Can't wait for the next ride in May 9th! Hope to see you there. - Lisa |
