Thanx for the info Veiled Maybe the diagnostic testing over here in Oz could be slightly different ? Not sure anyhoo, but my son has a couple of friends newly diagnosed with type 1 & they're in their mid 20's. They could be the exception that proves the rule too. Besides that, that's excellent advice you've given Erik. Might I also suggest Erik, if your dr has been given samples of the meds you've been prescribed, perhaps you could plead your case & get him to supply you with some, till you get on your feet financially with all the new associated & ongoing costs of your treatment regime & lifestyle changes. Take care. Big love <3

Well it's tax write off for all the meds but that's not until next year. And every year from here on. Still a pain insurance doesn't cover much. The lack of money is the first thing I'm trying get use to. After that I can worry about how much it's going to cost buying expensive food rather than cheap Mc Donalds, Burger King, Checkers, Wendys. Maybe Arbys can be partly healthy since it's no sugar and $5 for a roast beef sandwich. I don't really have to watch fats due to being low weight, but I have to still check carbohydrates since it turns to sugar. Also trying to eat low sodium and avoid diet soda because of the sugar substitute that causes cancer. That will be yet another problem I rather not acquire. Went in today for a follow up. Had an EKG test and they said my heart beat is irregular. Went to another place for a full check with a sonogram, heart stress test, and some radioactive x-ray injection (idk wtf) where they scan my heart and I hated it because I hate confined spaces and they had me lay on a table with a complete 360 degree scan. Spent 2 hours checking my heart. So they will find the results on Friday. I really wish they would stop finding new things to test me for and just let it be. I have no money and I just got paid Tuesday. Yet every turn they seem to want more money we ain't got. |

Yeah, you're right Di, I make it a blanket statement but there are a few people diagnosed type 1 later in life though its not the norm. Hopefully it all comes back all good :s |

I had it perfect on the first day. But sadly it fell soon as I went back to work. The nutritionist told me by law it is mandatory they give us a break as a diabetic to eat every 4 hours but I tried telling them with my line of work that isn't possible. I work straight 8 hours there is no time to sit around eating or shooting up insulin needles or popping metformin pills. Yesterday it was around 12AM by the time I had any time to eat dinner and take my pill and injection. Naturally my glucose level was way low because of how late it was. Then I had to wake up and take another injection and pill before breakfast at 11AM. That only doubled up today when I had dinner at 9PM after people stopped calling and walking in to place orders and wanting to be cashed out. We are short staffed so I am always running around doing everything along with the 2-3 people working inside the store alongside me. I was passing out, I could barely hold my hands steady to check my blood because I have to line it up with this thin strip on the Accu-check meter. Was down to 57 by that time, freaked out and downed 12oz of Mountain Dew. Now I'm fine at 157 just I feel tired and hard to focus - but that may be because I'm so tired of working until 2AM and having to be up by 11AM every single day this weekend. Not sure if this is what I have to do now on is keep my sugar above 100 using Mountain Dew a few sips per day to make it by until I have spare time to eat. But I rather it be 200+ and just run to the bathroom every 2 hours than all the other negative effects when it's near 50- of seizure, coma, mental damage, etc. The lesser of two evils. Bobbydown01: Wow nice to see you are still around. Thanks for leaving a post in support. VeiledBlack: Funny thing you worked for Accu-check and now that's what I'm using to check my blood sugar level before and after every time I eat or sleep. Edited by Kire667, Mar 18 2013, 02:28 AM.

Time to grab a new job? Just because they are short staffed doesn't mean you should be taking the bite and sacrificing your well being and health! Course it is easier said than done but I seriously think its something you should take up with your employer! Accu-chek seems to be the popular brand, if you ever happen to need some troubleshooting on it I might be able to help as well if its one of the models I was trained on ^.^ |
