Kire667 - diabities + hospital; more bad luck

Seems like I'm the only one using this forum section lately.

The computer internet driver wasn't working post before this. But I sorted that out after the install of Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. Still have yet to install a clean copy of Genuine Windows Home Premium 64-bit. (I put in the wrong CD that came in the mail, my 60GB external drive wasn't large enough to make a backup of pirated Windows 7 Ultimate, but I ordered a 500GB external drive I'll hook up later to back up my files so I don't lose all drivers. Long story short - that issue took a back seat to this week's problem.)

Now I have a more serious issue that didn't allow me to even notify anyone after I found out. I went to the walk in clinic to check why I'm always thirsty and can't sleep through the night because I have to run to the bathroom every 2 hours because I can't hold my bladder. Everyone at work said it's probably because I quit Mountain Dew last year and all the water my body isn't used to.

Here I'm thinking it's nothing serious and just probably a pill I can take for urinary track infection or something. The lady from the clinic told me my blood sugar level is 387 and I have to go directly to the emergency room. So I'm freaking out like wait, I haven't even ate can I at least stop off for some food first? What about Amber, I have to at least let her know I don't be online for a few days. And who's going to manage chat/forum while I'm gone? Would this stop me from moving to Canada since I won't have insurance coverage and I have to stick close to a hospital that has me medical records and knows what I need?

Needless to say I was freaking out the whole way to the hospital. Got there figuring I would be out same day or overnight once they give me some drug to take. Got stuck there Friday - Tuesday all because they either had my blood sugar level too high or too low. When they finally got it stabilized at 71 I signed my release and got the hell out of there.

Now I'm stuck with paying $260 for the insulin shots (twice daily), blood glucose tester + test strips (once before and after every meal, once before and after bed), and the lancers to make myself bleed for those annoying test strips (if I were emo maybe I'd love having this disease but I hate paper cuts, needles, and the sight of blood).

So now I have to focus on learning what I have to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, how to check my blood sugar level, then to take an injection and when to pop a pill. Probably have to spend less time on the game and forums and more time exercising once I can manage my glucose. Also will be sleeping more because I've been feeling more tired ever since they lowered my sugar intake.

I'll do what I can though now I'm finally out of the hospital and able to manage citadel and get back to training on RuneScape, so maybe I can set a few ranks in chat in the mean time. Just wanted to give a heads up so everyone knows what's going on and that I'm back.

Oh Erik, I saw you post on FB, I'm so sorry to hear you've developed diabetes:((((((( I was so disgusted and upset on your behalf when I read that you have to pay for your treatment (which you need to maintain a good quality of life!); is there a local clinic in your area that could help?

And yes NKO it is permanent, but diabetes is managed with insulin and regular blood tests, aswell as exercising and watching what you eat.

I'm assuming since you're a young fella, it's Type 1 Diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes happens generally when you're over 50 & overweight. Take good care of yourself & I agree with Silveryew. That completely sucks up the wazhoo that you now have a permanent condition (which over time you will manage fairly easily), that you have to pay for everything for. You guys seriously need a National Health Scheme & fast.

Not always Di, Type 1 usually gets diagnosed before you're an adult and you'd know far beforehand something was up. If you're diagnosed well after 18, it is almost never Type 1. The fact that Erik is taking a pill means he is Type 2, Type 1 are purely insulin dependant and don't take a tablet. I used to work for a diabetes company (Accu-Chek Roche diagnostics) for several years so I've got some knowledge in this area funnily enough.
If you need some help or advice I can see what I can do Erik. The blood testing is easy as...best thing I can recommend though is develop a solid excercise and diet routine and maintain it, the early the better cause you'll just fall into it like second nature after a while. Keep a good tab on your levels as well with the tests, after a while you'll work out how often you really need to test it, but till then its better to do it more than less so you can develop a really good idea of how what you eat (or don't eat) and what you do affects your levels.

Sadly, Diabetes is one of those diseases which gets expensive because you front all the bills, definitely talk to your GP and see if they can do anything for you regarding subsidies or cheap scripts or whatnot.

Health BEFORE Runescape.

Sorry to hear this Erik but eat the right stuff, avoid the sugary, NICE FOOD! Stick to bland healthy stuff maybe even that Green stuff I forget the name of? Salda? Saled? Salad? Something like that anyway. I don't know how the healthcare works over there for ongoing illnesses and hopefully you can get them health bills down!
