Also, if the new graphics card doesn't work I'd double check that monitor. |

New graphics card doesn't work. May go back to my GeForce7600 since I just paid for a GeForce6200 and it isn't even that. So I'm guessing the # of the GeForce makes a big difference since BOTH are 512MB graphics (still the highest out since 2006?). I'll go out and buy a new cord for my monitor and see if that works. The monitor showed the last image when it started showing the screen slightly distorted, but now nothing as if there's no connection to the PC at all. If that doesn't work I'm not buying a new monitor.. but most definitely investing in either a 2nd laptop or a better PC (one that I can still hook in my sticks of RAM and internal hard drives until I upgrade each part by part to the best there is out in 2012 (upgrade my PC every 6 years seems like a good plan to save money in the long run because soon as I buy anything it's always somehow outdated a couple years later (just like platform systems for gaming). |

512 is small, most cards have 1, 2 or even 3 gbs now you generally run two card in the faster pcs. Numbers of Graphics cards basically just tell you the series, and obviously each is an improvement on the last (or tries to be). I honestly think its going to be your motherboard. Try a new chord for the monitor, that might be it, but if the monitor light is on and isn't picking up anything I get the feeling its the motherboard itself. In which case you'll need a new one and then have to see if its compatible with your older stuff. RAM and HDD are cheap as now, its your processor, power supply, motherboard and graphics cards that get expensive, though you should still be able to get away with the 7600 if you don't want to upgrade. But the other bits you most likely will need to get newer ones of. |

My old laptop screen stopped working and it was the motherboard. |

Yeah that's what I'm thinking now.. damn motherboard. But how would everything light up and even the graphics card fan spin if it was an issue in the motherboard? By the way it might be the monitor. I bought a new cord today at WalMart on my way home from work. The second I plugged it in I saw the screen where it goes when you force shut down asking to start Windows normally or in safe mode, and then it went blank and I couldn't get it to show anything since, even when I plugged it in to my laptop. Perhaps the monitor burnt out? Because every time I powered on my PC when this first happened it shown the same distorted image of the last thing I was viewing - Ventrilo and Skype. I just couldn't move my mouse to click anything but keyboard still functioned, webcam, and I could hear/talk with Amber through Skype and heard everyone still chatting on Ventrilo. So maybe one last try before buying a whole new computer and losing all my files and hardware - to simply buy a new monitor. Also I'm not sure why I thought it would cost around $2000 for the best computer there is. I forgot everything crashes over time and while the best in 2006 cost me around $1000 to buy part for part on EBay and build it myself. I was checking what they have at WalMart while there. It's only like $700 for the best laptop and $500 for the best PC they offer. Quad Core Intel i3-2350 1.8GHZ, 4GB RAM (memory I guess they refer to it as now adays), 500GB hard drive, AMD a6 (I guess that would be same as 512MB graphics cards since I doubt they upgraded them any since 2006 when 512MB was first invented). I'm just wonder what should I be looking for? I haven't bought a PC since Pentium4 2.80GHz @ $90 was the best thing around, and when they first started selling 512MB graphics cards for $250. Is there higher than Quad Core? Is 4GB Memory the highest they can go? Anything newer since 24-bit sound cards? And how much hard drive is the best these days (the best they had in 2006 I think was around like 300GB). If all it takes is $600 to buy the best-of-the-best and actually not lag while trying to play RuneScape, edit on Sony Vegas Pro 8, and film using Hypercam2.. I'll do that with my tax return this year rather than wait until 2013. |

I would recommend buying a new pc or laptop to replace it, seems that its from 2006. Try taking out the RAM and CMOS battery and put them back in. |

Given a cheap monitor a go, otherwise its time to upgrade. Also don't buy prebuilt and specially form Walmart..that's going to be horrible. Definitely build your own, more cost efficent and its going to last/work better. |
