Today my computer stopped working. Since it still powers on and just the monitor won't display I know it is either my graphics card or monitor that quit on me.

I've lost access to my dropbox, my notepad file with all the weekly checked resource names on it and all that sort. I may need to find an alternative method of downloading Dropbox to my laptop or using the ranks forum as means to have someone copy/paste the list of demotions to me for the next couple week.

Soon as I get my next paycheck on March 27th 2012. I will see how much spare I've got to spend on buying a new graphics card and seeing if that works. The price of a GeForce 7600 512MB graphics card can't be $250 anymore - bound to be cheaper since 2006 when I bought them when they first released to public. And if it's my monitor it was like $190 for my 19" LCD monitor (sure those are cheaper as well now that HD and Plasma and 3D monitors are released).

Just wanted everyone to know whats up. I've also no means to access any of my current video projects so there will be a lack of new videos weekly on YouTube. Probably will simply upload raw clips/edits of just the Citadel Weekly guide each time we manage to upgrade something (so eventually we will have the only video guide from tier 1-7 on every skill and structure). ;)

Erik, it may not be either of those. I had an issue where the computer powered on but monitor wasn't being picked up. Your motherboard may be what has died in that it still works to an extent but isn't picking up your video park. I'd be testing each to see what it is. See if you can borrow a friends monitor and GPU card, swap out yours and see what the systems response is. If its the card or monitor then those two parts when changed should function. If its the motherboard though then neither will work just as they don't at the moment and in that case you'll need a new motherboard.
How old is that pc?

Yeah it could be the display cables or the connections on the motherboard too.

Sounds like the motherboard and or monitor. I would do what Tombo mentioned, although it may be something as simple as a loose cord (I'm assuming you already checked that, tehe).

Yeah, cables coming lose or just dying could be a potential problem too.

I doubt it is the cords since when I powered my PC back on the first 2 times it kept showing the image from when it froze up. Somehow it still functioned fine as I could talk on Skype and I was still hearing Ventrilo. After I powered down, and attempted to remove the graphics card and hooked my monitor back to the default output on the motherboard nothing was registering visually. Everyone was running fine and all the fans and lights were as normal. Nothing beeped so I know it's not an internal issue other than the display is not working.

I've put the graphics card back in and attempted to power it on with the monitor plugged back into it and still black screen. Yet the fan on the bottom side of the graphics card was still spinning.

I am order a new GeForce AGP graphics card to replace the one that isn't working properly. If that doesn't work then yes it's the motherboard itself. Taking this one step at a time until I figure out the true problem.

If that doesn't work though, I'll be waiting another 2 days for a motherboard to ship in the mail. I really wasn't expecting to invest in a whole new computer until I can save $2000 to buy the best there is (same thing I do every 5-6 years and play off that until it can no longer run RuneScape, then I'd simply upgrade to the best-of-the-best what ever is invented by that time).

If you end up buying a new motherboard, you'll have to buy all new parts that will work for it too. :\

Yeah be sure to check that all the parts you currently have are compatible with whatever motherboard you buy.
