18-Aug-2011 - Refer a Friend to Receive an XP Boost!

RuneScape can be great fun to play with others, whether you’re starting a clan, aiming for a skill milestone or taking on a boss. So, to help with this, you can now invite your friends to join you in RuneScape and we’ll offer them items and extra XP, with the possibility that you could earn an XP multiplier too!

All you need to do is Refer A Friend through our programme and, if your friend subscribes within two weeks of joining, you’ll receive a 10% XP boost for one week. You can receive up to five of these boosts in a year, so it is a great way for you to level up on those harder to attain skills.

Also, to help your friend when they start out, and get them closer to your own levels, they will receive a x2 XP multiplier to any skills they train in their first seven days of playing. So, this gives them the opportunity to rise up combat levels quickly as they fight against creatures of RuneScape, or reap the benefits when practising other skills. The x2 multiplier cannot be used to take a skill beyond level 30.

You may only refer someone using the Refer A Friend programme if they create a new account that has not played RuneScape previously.

You and your friend will be automatically added to each other’s friends list, and your friend will receive a special cracker which they’ll need to pull in order to receive a special starter pack of weapons, armour, cake and coins.

There are no limits on the skills that these multipliers can be used on. For full details of how the XP boosts work, please see here.

To start referring your friends now, please click here. For more information on the programme, click here.

I just made 5 new accounts and paid membership on them all. Testing out how messed up this new update is.

As shown in the opening image you can only use one 10%+ per week. They don't stack. We will be testing this out during bonus experience week to see if 2.7x factors in first or last to the equation.

As it stands it is now possible to earn 2m firemaking experience in a single day. You can earn well over 1000 range experience per minute if you use the best gear/items/weapons/summons combination at the correct location/NPC. You basically look at what experience you earn normally and add on that number divided by 10 to the total experience earned. ^_^

RWT indeed. It now reminds me of other games I played and got bored with because they're free yeah. But then if you want XP boosted so you don't waste your life playing it costs heaps of cash.

Ashen Empires
Cabal Online
Cafe World
Dragon's Call
Dransik
Farm Ville
YoVille

That's just to name the few I paid cash on but got bored so it was paid for nothing. I don't even get the benefit of being known on those games because it's so easy for IRL rich people to buy max level and items.

Here in RuneScape anything newly altered is rebelled and rioted about. So I'm among the rare few actually willing to go with the flow and just pay the dang cash to get my XP boosted. While everyone is too occupied hating on me because I get more XP than they do for doing the same motions and skilling the same items. ;)

SilentC0re asked why I can't get my RuneFest Helmet for 2011 since I bought 2 tickets for him (to ensure he gets an item and I do too) and Mod Crow posted to inform him the item is only handed out at RuneFest this year and not via E-mail because it was RWT in 2010 with the RuneFest 2010 Flagstaff given out by code sent to inbox of the ticket buyer. Also some idiots got a refund after unlocking the rare item, and others cold the code on Sythe.org for cash.

And if that was invented this year to end RWT of a RuneFest 2011 Helmet -- pray tell what in the hell they call THIS update? ;)

I can tell you now it doesn't work with BXPW (check Faqs for the update)

My issue with it is that the refer a friend idea is fine, I've got no issue. Its that the extra xp is basically RWT, makes Jagex a bunch of hypocrites, is opening up the market for a potentially new type of bot, making the xp bots more effective and in general causing more problems than it needs to. The new accounts also get messed up by double xp because no legit new player will learn anything getting that kind of 'helping' start. They'll just get bored when they get xp twice as slow.
I think they should have loyalty points if the referred friend becomes a member or does x and y. Makes alot more sense, less people are pissed off and there isn't this stupid xp boost that totally kills the spirit of the game.
Also, two weeks is stupid. What legit new player buys membership within two weeks?

Fail update is fail.

Exactly. New players won't buy membership in the first 14 days. It took me 1 year before I felt like paying to a game I can play fully free to everything level 99.

It's the benefit of buying better items and better XP is why we became members. It is also why this program is made mainly for people either buying membership for friends so they can benefit off it or people doing what I do and making random accounts, paying their membership for +50% XP boost then passing them onward to kids to use for what they see fit.

It's changing RuneScape into why I left Cabal Online. I also left YoVille because only people with money to buy better items for faster XP get maxed out or have the best house or items in game. It's all about the cash in those games. RuneScape has been all about keeping cash-for-benefits out other than the membership servers to avoid the bots -- but even that doesn't work since 2009.
