New Ranking Ideas; Public Opinion

Do ranks like they used to be done. But maybe start off that you get a Friend rank for being a member on the forum then every rank from there is something else, like sending in reports or whatever. Although I think that sending in reports for rank will just still cause people tattle tailing on people, but I don't know what else to suggest. Side note: I don't pay attention all too much on cc news because I don't really care, so if my idea has been suggested, I wasn't intending on copying an idea.

This idea just came to me but honestly all it comes down to in my opinion is we need more people to join these forums. When I say that I mean we actually need more people to post. Yeah there's like 1000 members but only maybe 10-15 people ever post. Not that I have a huge problem with it but it gets kind of boring. I'd suggest that ranks in chat depend on a post count but I think that's going maybe too far, because sometimes there's just nothing to really post about. Again, if the idea has been put out there it wasn't meant to be a copy. And I don't even know if this is the right place to put this, but meh.

Post count works because, the more people join, the more topics/posts, the more to talk about. Works in my opinion.

Oh dear, & I was just getting used to not being able to get into cc after the 3rd too lol. Now I may get a rank if this idea gets through ?

How would that work? I know our idea for 99s rank doesn't work much because I hardly see people asking or aiding Effigies. We had them ranks by 99s before them Effigies but still seems it would come natural people ask help of ranks for that stuff.

Forum posts for chat ranks? That does seem to go along with the idea we are discussing at Chat Staff forum. Means to rank the chat and produce active posters on NG. Rather than how over the years chat became the primary source of events and the forum took a backseat.

I'll throw the suggestion into the mix. Thanks Jake. I'm glad we got a discussion going here and now about this. And all it took was a joke post? Really.... just wtf.

So 1000 posts per rank? And it must be non spam so that means we will need to change the staff back to 5 Admins 5 Mods to enforce rules and ensure every post lives up to the standard of being more than one smile face or a single word post for +1 total posts.

1000 posts is probably too much. I'd be suggesting more like 100-150. 100 posts still takes a good month or two to get, depending on how active you are.
1000 will seem unachievable for many and thus most won't want to try.

Suggested system would be something like.....
Trial member period: Register to forums but no rank yet.
Member: Make ten posts you get a smiley face in chat.
Advancing through ranks: After that you earn a rank for each 100-150 posts on site. So for the five? (minus general and smiley how many ranks are left?) remaining ranks you'd need 500-750 posts to reach silver.

The best part is, most people will not reach 500. You'll find a lot get the first 100, and a fair few will reach 200-300 posts each, but only the really dedicated hit that 500+ benchmark and thus, ranks are nicely spread out.

The post count can be tweaked a bit but I think something between those numbers works the best. You need to have a number that attracts players to try and achieve better ranks without it seeming possible.

Another option would be to do an increasing post system. So for first rank you'd post the 10 times. Next is 50. Then the next goes to 150, 300, 500, 750 and so on. Numbers of course can be changed.

People in chat would be required to register first and make those ten posts (or maybe lower to five, so that "limbo" period is reduced" to earn a rank. Those without a rank simply can't talk, they can listen but don't have the option to talk. Thus, you promote people to join and post, and honestly it takes one day to get five posts (I think five is more efficient than ten, just so the process is sped up) what with an intro, achievements thread, and whatever else you can post about.

So that's my two cents :)

dumb idea ^. post count doesnt mean ****. sorry.

there is no reason to make people raise post count.. that doesn't mean that they aren't active, they just don't enjoy posting on every topic, and dont like to follow the forums day and night.

The point isn't getting people active, its too work out a way of both increasing traffic on forums and getting rid of the issue of spammers.
Now while I respect there are flaws in any idea, don't simply say the idea is dumb or ****, give some actual constructive criticism/suggestions.
The 99 rank system doesn't work, ranking people based on contribution is too bias/subjective, this everyone knows.
A system that might effectively work AND incorporates this forum so as to actually gain a growing community is a post-based system. Post count means this site grows, we can do more in terms of expanding into other games as people join and so on, and at the same time allows an easy way of working out ranks/gaining ranks and we don't need to worry as much about spammers.

As I said, there are flaws in this but simply saying the idea is "dumb" doesn't help improve/change anything.
