Alright listen to this. I have this laptop that hasn't been working ever since my mother attempted to log in with the wrong password a few times. Some how the computer itself put an internal password on the harddrive which nobody could figure out. And if you failed to get it right 3 times it locked up and you have to manual power off and power back on to try 3 more times.

We took it to Best Buy thinking perhaps if we already know the problem that the Geek Squad could look at it and simply override or reset the BIOS password.

They charged me $70 for labor to look at it for 22 hours. Called me back and told me it's not the BIOS password it's a password on the harddrive itself. If I wanted it fixed it would cost far more to do that being it is an older computer/laptop. He claimed it would be base price $80 for the new harddrive and then the cost for labor to install it.

I sometimes wonder if these guys are scam artists using Best Buy as a front for their organization or simply that stupid. I went in there explaining the problem there was no need for $70 diagnostics. There is a password when you power on and we need it removed. End of story.

So when they called be back saying it would be another $80 and just goes up from there for labor I told him **** it just don't touch it and I'll be there to pick it up later. Watch them try charging me storage fees for holding it there until I get time to grab it.

Wish I knew a thing about password hacking and I wouldn't need to waste my hard-earned money on scams like Best Buy.

Now I'm back to sharing my computer with my nephew because he is always on RuneScape and I hardly get on anymore because of that. Was trying to get his tower fixes but he wanted me to take the laptop down there thinking it was something we can't fix. And yet his computer our friend knows how to fix by installing another copy of Windows XP and reformatting the harddrive because it shuts itself down every time he powers it on.

You would have been better off posting your problem on an IT board.

Regardless, hope you can remove the password.
