Things Wrong with JaGeX's system; No staff to enforce rules...

Their lack of sticking to a set of rules.

We've had our rules page for well over 6 years, and it didn't change much since 1999 on our first website/forum. There are minor tweaks, but that is ONLY after being discussed with staff and members as to if the change is even necessary to begin with.

http://z3.invisionfree.com/NGoR/index.php?act=boardrules

I find it funny how a game that's only been around roughly 10 years can have SO many issues and misconceptions to what is and what isn't a rule.

This doesn't even get my foot in the door on the matter of how there is no rule regarding the saving of inbox "evidence" that Jagex said something to a player and/or moderator, and them banning videos with threats of shutting your page down if you violate some sort of "copyright" law against keeping filed image proof of discussions we've had with JaGeX staff at inbox on Runescape.

It was not until 2005 JaGeX begun posting warnings on every inbox sent to a person. "It is illegal to make hard copies of anything discussed here in."

They do a similar threat of ban from YouTube claiming their game forum is "copyrighted" even if no such logo of JaGeX Ltd nor RuneScape is featured in the video/image.

Back in 2003 when I started at this game, there were only 11 rules. The other 4 were added between 2005 and 2007. These included Rule 12 (real-world trading), Rule 13 (personal information), Rule 14 (bypassing adverts, direct server linking) and Rule 15 (misuse of forum board).

In 2005 Rule 11 was altered without RS News or forum notice to players. This slight change cost millions of dollars in scammed money from loyal members of Runescape. In Runescape 1, Rule 11 was (Do not mention scam websites). After year 1 of Runescape 2, Rule 11 got altered into (Do not mention websites). This slight change made a huge impact on clans and fans that owned websites, forums, videos, images. This meant ANYONE that does exactly what TehNoobShow did (posted "YouTube" on Runescape forum board) were falsely muted and banned. After the #1 name at YouTube for Runescape made mention, Mod Mmg finally made a change to what Mod Andrew ruined, Rule 11. Now all legal websites are permitted through Runescape game and forum to some extent. But it is a far way from what we lost in 2005.

As of 2009, the rules changed from 15 rules to far MANY more. There are not even numbers on the rules, due to the magnitude of how many embeded rules within rules there are, and loop holes in the rules is the reason most of us are still around.

Muted from game 3 days, banned from forum for 4 days, all for saying "cracker" reminds me of a joke our member HamtaroFreak once got muted for saying in-game. "Selling rare black lobs." The sad thing is from inboxes I've sent back when JaGeX actually still had "customer support" link on site, every single JaGeX Moderator has a different view on how s/he reads each rule of Runescape. And I am pretty sure these differences in unclear rules system is what has led to such a corrupt system of power, and it trickles on down to Player Moderators, Forum Moderators, and common players in the way words are read and reported.

That's another one I'll need to add to the word filter of NG. Trying to keep the filter exact rather than loose, so we don't end up filtering words that have no bad meaning behind them.

And yes I completely agree to that view. Though it is not the company directly which is to blame. It is the fault they have in trusting common players, even these new "player mods" with the ability to read the rules, translate the rules how they see fit, and then enforcing rules upon us which wasn't even the original intent of the rules to begin with when designed by Mod Andrew and Mod Mmg.

All REAL games are run by REAL companies that do REAL work. JaGeX is a joke since 2004, then they even made up the idea of "player moderators", and thus caused lots of hate toward them for every false ban and false mute to take place there after.

Just as we learned our lesson by enforcing the promotion system at RScc based on who can file the most reports, and have them successfully enforced. JaGeX needs to learn from this error and realize promoting mass reports for minor infractions to rules or even almost a rule but not quite, leads to the downfall of us all since now we have to endure try-hards whom believe by filing reports for saying "black" or "white" when discussing the color of clothing, cars, houses, or ANYTHING for that matter can be used as "offensive language" based on the misconception of one individual whom doesn't even represent the company (yet) as a "player mod".
