Myke: Thanks for keeping everyone serious. Regarding the death penalty, death is just another part of life. If not for the slaughter of guilty criminals, there would be FAR more issues of hunger in this world, since tax money goes to feeding life-sentence criminals. Even though I consider God the only power permitted to be the giver or taker of life, some human some place would ultimately have to step in, if it were for any such death that was not natural-occurring (through illness, hunger, or accidental). So my final thought on the matter, the death penalty is a necessary evil, to counter-act the evil of society in general. |

I am against the death penalty for a few reasons. 1. By killing a killer we fall to their level, we are no better than they are. 2. Jail is ten times worse. You change the death penalty to "life, never to be released" and I guarantee, the killer will, by the end of their life, be begging for death. Eventually sitting in a cell all day every day for say 50 years, is going to make you regret and feel guilty for what you've done. Unless your a murdering psychopath you will eventually feel remorse. 3. The death penalty is an absolute. It means, you kill the wrong guy, you can't change it. Put the wrong guy in jail and you can at least give the person back part of their life. Of course they may have missed a number of years in life but at least they are still alive. The death penalty is a one way ticket, and no matter how many criminal you kill with the death penalty it will never make up for the blood of an innocent now in the hands of the government. Criminals no matter how bad they are still deserve the right to live, they may have killed someone but unless you are death itself you cannot judge someones time to die. Many murders are simple mistakes, many are traumatized individuals from a horrible childhood. Why should we condemn those people to death, because of a incredibly bad choice, or a past experience beyond their control. Killing a murder makes you as bad as them. We should be trying to rehabilitate them rather than kill them. Would you prefer the murder of your parents to die without remorse, without the slightest bit of guilt or sorrow or for the killer to die, feeling guilty, and in a state of mind where not even words can describe the sorrow, and anguish that they feel over what they have done. Even more, would you want them to die a human who has to fight his troubled past everyday, or someone finally at peace, a person who, had they been this way before, would not have killed your parents/ people close to you? When it comes down to it the immediate death of someone is a slap on the wrist compared to you dying having spent every living day in a cell thinking about your crimes for the past 50+ years. Broadening this subject slightly, say countries such as America were to abolish the death penalty, would you expect those then put on "life, never to be released" sentences to have the luxuries that most prisons seem to have these days. Or should they have the bare necessities, meaning small gray rooms, a sink, a toliet and a bed? Going further should all criminals in prisons have this or should they be allowed the luxuries of T.Vs etc. Thoughts? P.S on the tax payers money, the actual amount of tax payers dollars that would go towards keeping criminals alive is less than that used to provide chemicals, cleaning and conducting the actual process involved for the killing of criminals. Its also less than going to war and so on. |
