Thus, the rehabilitation and education of convicts would probably actually turn a profit, once they leave and become productive members of society. Allowing them to use less of your tax money. |

Crime in Scotland has stayed the same over the past few years. The reason why it isn't going down is because people keep re-offending. Our prisons are ineffective. |

If you were in charge of the prisons, what would you do? |

Well, from what I have heard, during the firing squad, only one man has a bullet, a single bullet. And what if they miss? You'd sit there and bleed to death most likely. Which, that wouldn't be a very nice few moments. Sure, you would lose feeling after awhile, but it would still stink quite a bit. As for the Death Penalty.. I believe in more of what Blind Guy said, rehibilitation. If I was in charge of prisons: Umm... I have no idea, carefully examine all the crimes and find punishments to fit their crime? EDIT: By the way Myke, I like these "Serious Topics", keep them coming. They make discussion quite interesting. |
![]() Acker, you are officially a member of the Veterans. One of the few honorable warriors that have greatly effected the way I play. For 3 years, you taught me great lessons, and I have come to think of you, as one of the greatest people I have come across. ~ The Dark Within for some forum-based RP action.

Also, Punishment should not be administered in a vague and general way, it should be done on a case-by case basis. That's one of the reasons why I hate things like the Ten Commandments: They are absolute, and unbending. Morals and what is allowable should depend on a situation, they shouldn't be unchanging. |

Rehabilitation would work for certain crimes and only if the offender felt guilty or sorry for what he/she did. The truth is most of them dont feel sorry for what they did. They feel sorry for being caught. The death penalty while very rare compared to other sentances doesnt teach them anything nor does it prevent other people from commiting capital crimes. Sure the offender wont commit the crime again once the sentance is carried out but it doesnt help anything other than that. There are also those who get the death penalty and then you find out later they where innocent. The family of the victom may feel better but the truth is someone else will be in that death row cell soon. (And can u immagine the electric bill after someone gets the chair?) That brings me to life sentances. These punishments are the most costly to the taxpayers. The average life sentaces ends up being around 55 years and an immate is on death row for about 5-10 years. The costs to house them both are about the same (I am not sure the exact yearly cost). So overtime this can cost a lot more than death. There is also the chance the immate can get out on perole. The upside is there is more time for the criminal to "suffer". The fact is there are many upsides and downsides to any kind of criminal punishment. You will never truely know how you feel about these punishments till you are the victome or a loved one of a victome. Also you will never know how these punishments effect the criminal unless you where the criminal. I am not against the death penalty when it is used against someone who is 100% guilty without question and someone whos crime was very grousome. I have had a friend who was murdered and I am glad the man was sentanced to death. If you had seen what he did to her you would understand. |
