Sometimes, you just want to get out of your apartment, head into town, steal the money you came for, go home, and then heat and eat some nine pizzas with a double whopper and two cokes on the side. Sometimes, you just want your days to be simple and pleasant like that. But today, today was not such a day for Penelope Gildemeister. She had been running as usual, wearing the full Exstatic getup as needed when she was out committing crime, with a simple, elegant plan in mind. Head to the bank, or at least, one she hadn't hit in a while, get past their security and into the vault, loot as much money as she could carry, and head back home before anyone could do anything to stop her, all this while moving too fast for the cameras or people to do more than barely notice her. It was easy to pull off and perfect in it's simplicity. However, like many good plans, a wrench was thrown into everything when she noticed the escalating conflict happening near an alley on a more abandoned street. Or at least, not a lot of onlookers had gathered, except for the involved parts.

So what was it exactly she was looking it, why, it was racial tensions about to boil over made manifest. With everything the Evolutionary bastard's attacks, tensions were high, mutant children were missing and now a group of humans were seemingly about to gun down a smaller group of mutants, if not for the fact one mutant's hands were on fire and the look on his face telegraphing he was more than ready to set the armed humans equally ablaze. The humans weren't gang bangers or criminals as far as Pen could tell, no, they just concerned citizens who's emotions had them acting out..ugh, such unintelligent troglodytes, not that the mutant teens were much better naturally. Neanderthals and shoal brains all of them!

She couldn't let them hurt each other, absolutely not. It wouldn't be right, and innocent lives would be lost, even if it was at the hands of other innocents..gosh darn it! With a roll of her eyes Pen altered her trajectory and ran in five rapid circles around the humans, snatching each of them's brandished firearm out of their hands, throwing them in various garbage cans around the street before coming to a halt between the humans and mutants. "Stop, dangit! Why are you trying to hurt each other you underdeveloped trilobites?!" She asked in an unusually frustrated tone, arms extended towards both groups as she looked from one to the other. "Look! it's one of them supers!" a human said, pointing. "The little monster is coming to help the others!" Meanwhile, the mutants started at Pen in surprise, just as the humans had, naturally, as she appeared once the humans guns had been taken away. "You're one of them there supers! Why are you siding with the normies?! they hate your guts!" a mutant with very nasty looking claws yelled out, making Pen roll her eyes behind her visor. "Uuugh! I am not on either of you imbeciles side! Just stop trying to kill each other!"
Pen knew she was no diplomat, and she did not have the cool head needed to handle a situation like this.

Why was there no actual superheroes around when you actually needed them for once?!

The Man of Iron watched the situation from a distance while considering his options. On the one hand, this sort of violence invariably lead to an increase in gun sales, and as he had controlling interest in most of the world's gun-manufacturers, an increase in gun sales was very much in his interests.

On the other hand, if a fight involving mutant powers spiraled out of control, it might damage the Manhattan infrastructure, hurting both his profits, and the profits of the people who had temporary control over his fate via implants.

He decided to split the difference and began having his team of Thunderbolts cordon off the area. This would ensure that the fight didn't spill out beyond this poor area, gave the humans and mutants time to kill each other, and gave him a plausible excuse for not immediately getting involved, as he could plausibly claim to be setting up police containment before moving in.

Spider-Man swung through bright blue New York skyline, falling in an arc before shooting out another line of webbing from his shooters and hurling himself through the air yet again. Peter had been trying to get his life back on track. His work with the Fantastic Four, and by extension, the Future Foundation, had resulted in him falling in a number of interdimensional rifts and getting stuck in alternate realities. Exploring these worlds had certainly been interesting and Reed made sure he was well paid for all of these excursions. But it had strained his relationship with Mary-Jane yet again, not to mention other heroes like Widow.

Still, Pete had returned to his signature red and blue costume and was getting back into the swing of things. New York knew Spider-Man was back on the prowl. NYC was home to a variety of heroes, but Spider-Man was perhaps its most signature one. He embodied the character of New Yorkers in many ways, even though his reputation with the public had a way of going up and down.

Spidey's path took him through the air when the echoes of shouting reached up to grab his ears. With a casual flip, Spider-Man fell down towards a nearby building and landed squarely on an air-condition unit. He peeked down below to see a group of people tussling. It didn't take long to figure out what the issue was. A mutant with flaming hands was protecting a group of his fellow mutants from a group of armed humans. Anti-mutant tensions had been rising since the recent conflicts with the High Evolutionary. Mutants were getting blamed for lots of damage. This was nothing new, but tensions were higher because of the bigger human death toll. Spider-Man was no mutant, technically, but he had plenty of friends in the X-Men and oftentimes shared in being blamed by the public.

Spider-Man was about to try to break this up when a barely perceptible blur zoomed about the armed humans. It ended in a girl standing in between the mutants and now de-armed humans. Both groups were displeased with her appearance, which Pete found odd. You'd think the mutants would be happier she just took away all of the humans guns. He didn't know this speedster, but it was time for him to help her out. This didn't need to tip over into full-scale violence. Spidey jumped down flipping through the air to land next to the erstwhile hero.

"Hey now people, let's not get so hot and bothered. Miss Speedy Gonzalez here is making sure you kids play nice. Let's put our toys away before we all get sent to time-out!"

Well, this had certainly taken a turn for the more unexpected. Of course, out of every hero who could have decided to join in on this conflict, it had to be the webslinger. Then again, perhaps it was fortune in disguise, seeing as Spider-man was among the most reasonable and calm heroes around. Heck, when they had dealt with this, he might even let her go with only a short exchange of words. That was, if they managed to calm these butt-clowns down that was. Of course, the web-head's appearance had mixed results, a few of the humans pausing, giving thought, so for a few of the mutants, a few of the humans were clearly disgusted though, and fire-fist Mchamhead didn't seem to be entirely calm either, but, no one was hurting anyone yet. And that, was a plus at least.

"What the hell..they came at us Webhead!" the fire-fisted fool said with a sneer, some of the others nodded, though with two super powered individuals between them, the steam was seeping out of both sides in the street conflict, albeit not as fast as Pen would have liked. "They won't hurt you, not when we're here. this goes for all you thought inhibited troglodytes" she said with a sigh, shaking her head a little as she looked to Spider-man, both sides seeming both confused and somewhat offended by her words, at least they were focusing more on her than each other, and that was better right? But then again, what about her unexpected assistance? He was the hero, surely he had diplomatic words of wisdom to share with these utter bottom dwelling groupers?

Spider-Man's sudden appearance had seemingly left everyone in a state of small surprise. Two supers showing up so quick had to be a surprise anyway, but Spider-Man was a local legend. Still, even after the moments of awed surprise, the fire-fisted mutant sneered stating the humans had attacked them. Peter didn't doubt that at all. Still, if he took the mutants side entirely, the humans were bound to get mad and he didn't want anyone to get hurt, prejudiced as they were. Before he could reply, the blonde haired speedster replied that the humans wouldn't be hurting anyone with the supers present. Spidey believed that, but he didn't want them to try. This needed to get diffused and fast.

"Nobody is gonna hurt anybody. I know everyone here is worried and scared. These recent attacks have left us all scared. But you can't blame each other. We're all New Yorkers and we all know what that means. This is our city and we can't let some cosmic space freak tear that away from us! This High Evolutionary is to blame! Not each other! Now just go home! Leave each other be. It's not worth it. Nobody here wants to get hurt do they?"

Spider-Man rarely got serious in costume. He used humor all of the time to distract foes and live up to his personality of a care-free hero. But he could when he needed too and he wanted to speak to the hearts of the people here. These were his people at the end of the day. This city was his city. And he hated to see the good people of New York at each other's throats over this.

Penelope had to admit she was surprised, and a tiny bit impressed. It was extremely rare to see the webslinger get serious, normally he flung around jokes and quips as readily as he did his web, but here, he was being serious, inspiring and heck, it was working. Seeing Spidey get serious like this, as well as his words, they had a profound effect. The mutants and humans both stood down, slowly, as they mulled over his words. Quiet murmurs of agreement was given, the heat having been taken out of the situation, as Spiderman's words rung true. As the two groups started walking their separate ways, Penelope looked up at Spiderman with surprise and some respect on her face. "Well, that went a lot better than I expected..I suppose a thank you is in order" She said, feeling very awkward all of a sudden. Talking to a hero and what not. She had only read about him in the past, but frankly, he seemed a lot cooler than she had expected.
