Kate laughed at the idea that she wasn't interested. "Actually, isn't San Francisco built on hills? Plus I do run a lot. And we just met today and I'm moving out there to be with you, an older man, already. That's what we should tell people. Not that I was already going there for work. But seriously, I don't mind. You're just, like, more decisive and mature than guys my age." Not that an older, handsome, mysterious, well-traveled ex-X-man was going to be anything but catnip for her. Or maybe its Kate-nip? "Good. You're a fast learner. You'll find things will go very smoothly, Mr. Anderson, as long I get my way." She had expected him to protest or argue. Isn't that how it happened in the movies? "And yeah. Just...surprise me." A native New Yorker, Kate was equally comfortable eating hot dogs from a street vendor or pizza at a dive as she was at a 5 star restaurant. She had no real pretensions about where she ate, just that it had to be good. She playfully raised an eyebrow as he ordered what she had. "Following my lead? Its really good though. Like, amazingly good." Then things went...very interestingly. She leaned forward, hand on her jaw and neck, eager to play this new game he was talking about. "An open book, is that only tonight you'll be truthful? Or just until I learn how to read you?" She sounded hungry, more than just for something to eat. "So explain to me the rules, Tom. Is this just your open book night? Or you ask one, I ask one? And why are you so bad at dating? One specific thing messing you up, or just hopeless?" She was quite prepared to trade questions with him, but really wanted to see where he was going with this. |

He sat there as she spoke, laughing as she mentioned the jogging, already picturing her dragging him along. When she mentioned the reason for moving, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, curious why she made that decision. ”Why do I get the feeling you’ll get me jogging with you when you move out there? Also, out of curiosity, why would you want us to tell people you moved out there for me?” It wasn’t that he was complaining, he was just very intrigued, curious why she would want that to be what people believed. ”Oh, don’t think it’ll always be that easy to get your way, I just viewed the terms of this arrangement to be agreeable.” He grinned, wondering how she’d react to that, betting it’d catch her off-guard. He couldn’t lie to himself, she wouldn’t have too much difficulty persuading him, but he wanted her to think it wouldn’t be easy. As for their second date, he wasn’t exactly sure where to take her, but upon returning to San Francisco, he’d find a location that might be nice. ”Well, it has been at least two years before my last burger, so there’s that.” He smiled, but did nod, kinda indicating he was somewhat following her lead. ”Tonight is just the start, but I’ll always be an open book, I don’t want to keep secrets. As for how tonight will work, it won’t be you ask then I ask, but will be whenever either has a question.” He felt a little overwhelmed for a moment, her asking about specifics for the game, especially with her going straight into her first question. He had to consider it for a moment, after all it wasn’t exactly the easiest thing to answer, he was self-diagnosing why he was bad at romance. ”Well, as far as I can think, it’s because I use to be immature, especially when it came to romance. I never cheated or anything like that, so I want to keep that clear, but I think I didn’t take certain things as seriously as I should have. I think that was my biggest mistake in the past, I didn’t really consider the weight of my decisions then, but I promise I won’t make that mistake this time.” He smiles, his confidence in his statement being heard through his voice, watching her for any reactions. |

"Well, it is really good exercise. And just because moving to San Francisco the day I met someone so I could 'be with them'," Kate made air quotes as she said it, "sounds like something a crazy girl would do. And I'm tired of being boring, safe, reliable Katherine Bishop." She stopped short at saying that she wanted to be his crazy girlfriend Kate instead. "It seems really spontaneous and unplanned, after all." When he told her that she wouldn't always get her way so easily, she had just two words. [ccolor=purple]"Challenge accepted. I guess I'll have to figure out how to persuade you, then."[/color] She flipped her hair, leaning forward a bit, then pouting a moment. "Is that how its done? I thought adulting would be more like Truth or Dare, but, I dunno. Like, sexier, I guess." Putting on a serious face again, she decided to quit messing with him for a bit. "Same thing, I guess. But a girl has to have a few secrets." She gave him a smile, not sure how to reply to what he had told her. "I mean, I'm not a very serious person. Or at least nobody takes me very seriously. I'm just a rich girl that people assume is Tony's side chick or whatever. So I appreciate being taken seriously by you? And there's no Mrs. Anderson out there? No ex-Mrs. Anderson either?" Not that divorce was a big deal to her. Most of her friends' parents were divorced, some twice or more. "So its romance, then, not just some torrid fling for a week or two? You're pretty old, does that mean you're courting me?" She kept a wicked grin on her face, wondering what it was about Tom that had finally sparked that fire inside her, that other guys hadn't. "Do you have one for me? A question, I mean." |

He couldn’t help but laugh as she spoke, she was tired of being safe and reliable, and wanted to be crazy and spontaneous now. Their date itself was very spontaneous, so she was starting down the path of spontaneity, and he just looked over at her. ”Well, you’re off to a good start on the spontaneous front, so now to work on the crazy some.” He couldn’t help but smirk, hoping to tease her a little. He raised an eyebrow as she mentioned finding a way to persuade him, wondering what he got himself into, though at least he was fairly confident in the fact that she didn’t have pheromone powers. As she mentioned adulting, and how she thought it’d be a sexier version of Truth or Dare, which did get his mind racing a little; though he quickly put a halt to those thoughts. ”Well, I’m sorry to disappoint? I mean, any question is fair game, within reason of course.” He couldn’t help but feel a little bad for her when she mentioned what people often assumed, and though she fit Tony’s usual type, he knew she wasn’t that type of girl. As for her question, he feigned having to give the question serious thought, then laughed a little as he shook his head. ”Nope, never been married or even engaged for that matter, so you’d be the first if we get to that point.” He couldn’t resist throwing that out there, noticing how easily she’d blushed, and wanted to see just what kind of reaction he’d get out of her, especially after the courting comment. ”As for the courting, I may be older than you, but I’m not that old that we called it courting when I was you’re age, which I’ll remind you was only twelve years ago.” When asked if he had a question for her, he leaned a little closer and nodded, smirking a bit. ”You don’t strike me as the flirtatious type, yet you’ve been awfully flirty tonight, so what makes me special?” Though he didn’t think it was a bad thing and indeed was flattered by it, earlier at the Starbucks she seemed a little nervous about the prospect of a date and did state it’d be her first, and he was just generously curious. |
