Nathaniel had seemed to keep quiet for the most part, giving the conversation to Kate and Tom, which didn’t exactly feel awkward any longer. Listening to her speak about how she parted the wealthy from their money, he couldn’t help but smirk a little, after all she was helping them actually put their wealth to a good cause other then just spoiling themselves. ”So, you’re kinda like Robin Hood, though instead of taking from the rich, you convince them to give it to the poor.” He laughed a little when she seemed to take slight offense in his comment about Indy, though he didn’t like hiding information, he didn’t feel sharing his current status as Quasar would do much good. Though he wasn’t a professor, he was a counselor and he use to be the Elemental Control instructor, so he did have a similar status. As for the shady reputation, he had been part of the Brotherhood very briefly as well as the Mighty Avengers, so he definitely had a bit of a shady past. ”Well, I am a counselor at Graymalkin and I use to teach the Elemental Control Class, so I use to be a professor kinda. As for the shady reputation, that all depends upon whom you ask, though I’m sure someone would say I have a past.” As Nathaniel finally spoke about offering an ear, Tom nodded and looked over at him, knowing it might be a good idea. ”I really appreciate the offer Nathaniel, even though I’ve tried working through it these past two years, I don’t think I’ve made any progress. I feel more like I buried the trauma rather than overcome it, so perhaps talking it out with someone else will give me a different perspective, so thanks again.” It was odd, being a counselor himself, he was often use to helping people get past their issues. However, it seemed when it came to getting through issues himself, he would rather just bury them and continue with life; something he knew wasn’t very helpful or healthy for him. As Kate mentioned she was moving to the west, though that could mean anywhere, he made the assumption it was somewhere in California if she was continuing with the Maria Stark Foundation. Though he didn’t know where she was moving to exactly, or even exactly how long she’d be there, he still knew they could hangout some more either way. ”Well, if you’re moving to San Francisco, I wouldn’t mind showing you around. Though I’ll be quite honest, I’ve only lived there for a little while myself, so we’d pretty much be exploring together.” He smiled a little as he realized they’d definitely see each other again, though he wasn’t entirely sure he was ready to pursue anything further, but he knew that was a little assumptive at this moment. |

Kate's expression froze for a second when he compared her to Robin Hood, as she wondered if he had figured out her secret identity, even as he made a really good case for it. Accurate enough, anyway. "Close enough to the bullseye, Tom." As Nathaniel was unusually interested in his coffee, the bulk of the conversation fell onto them. And it was rapidly turning into flirting. So he had been a teacher. There was a hard luck sort of quality about him that reminded her a little of Clint, but in a sexier sort of way. Especially his comment about having a past. Dark, mysterious, ties to the X-men..."Oh yeah? Like, who should I ask then? Storm, or Phoenix, or the Asian ninja with the British accent? I guess its not a 'California Girls' thing, because I can remember when they were in New York all the time." Kate was fishing, and not very subtly. She was pretty new to the whole flirting thing, after all. And apparently broken, as he talked about coming to grips with trauma. Ohhh Kate felt like she should pipe up about overcoming things but didn't feel it was her place. She was only now coming out of her shell, more than five years after she had been attacked, and didn't think she had any helpful advice. But that pain he as carrying around...it was only like catnip to her. She couldn't imagine what it was like losing powers, as she had never had any. Everything she did was due to her training, and time in the gym, and her gear. She had always been envious of her powered teammates, since they always seemed so capable alongside her. "Well, I've been to San Francisco before, but only very briefly. So its a lot more your turf than it is mine. But yeah, I'd really like it if you had some time and could show me around. I don't like going to new places alone very much." She nearly added that she would make it worth his while, but her voice wouldn't say the words, thankfully. "Are you going back soon, or maybe I could show you around the City? Since you've been gone a while." She hoped she wasn't being too eager, but she wasn't a passive wallflower either. She wasn't content to just sit there and not make any moves at all. Edited by Hawkeye II, Mar 11 2018, 02:12 PM.

Tom caught the brief moment her expression froze, raising an eyebrow a little, debating rather to ask about it. Having decided it wasn’t worth digging into yet, he let the brief moment slip, her comment about hitting close enough to the bullseye satisfying his curiosity. He was starting to get the bigger picture, but it was for her to reveal, not him to ask about. Besides, even though he had an idea about her, he wasn’t fully certain who she was. A lot had changed since he was gone, and he wasn’t exactly sure who was and wasn’t active with the Avengers, and who knew what new members there were. ”To be honest, don’t know what any of them would say, though I’d hope something along the lines of me being heroic or a great guy.” He couldn’t help but smirk a little, though her comment about California Girls threw him a little, but he got her meaning. ”Considering I’ve only been in one relationship, don’t think I’ve developed a type, though you are by far the most interesting young woman I’ve met. You’re intelligent, very generous as far as I can tell, and you definitely seem to believe in doing the right thing.” He had to admit to having a strong attraction to Kate, even if he was wrong and she wasn’t a superhero, he was a hero in her own sense. Her charity work definitely helped a lot of people that wouldn’t normally get it, and because of that, she was a hero as far as he was concerned. Smiling as she mentioned San Francisco and showing her around, then moved to Manhattan itself, his smile seeming to brighten a little. Despite having lived her for awhile, he had been gone for a while and had seen a lot of things, and on his return everything felt different. Nodding, he briefly turned to face Nathaniel to see if he had anything to say, his focus again turning to Kate. ”That sounds like a lovey idea, and maybe after we could get some dinner, I’m sure you know the good places to eat around here.” The oddest thing about this was, the more they talked, the less he felt he had to hide that he was Quasar. Sure, he didn’t know if she was an Avenger or not, but she had been totally fine with him being an X-Man and he didn’t think him having the Quantum Bands would change anything. He decided he’d wait for now, it wasn’t any good throwing something like that at her this early into whatever was blossoming, and he felt that was definitely a conversation for another time. After all, if she was fine with him being Quasar, that opened up the possibility of telling her about his adventures in space; and maybe even taking her to some of the planets. Sure, he had people back at Graymalkin he could talk to about his time in space, but the idea of having someone away from home was appealing. |

"Heroic? So you were in a bunch of fights with supervillains?" For her, it was genuine interest, but it also made her seem very excited by the idea. When he complimented her, she blushed, although there was no mistaking his interest in her. Nor did she miss the bit about 'only one relationship'. "I guess it was pretty intense? You two were together for a while?" He didn't strike her as the 'love 'em and leave 'em' type but he did travel for a living. And so coffee was turning into dinner. "Yes, I'd like that very much." And then she realized what she was wearing. "I'd need to go home and change, first, though." Not that she didn't feel she was looking good, but she wasn't dressed for a date at all. And definitely not a first date. She wondered if she ought to try and invite Nathaniel, to keep things from getting too serious, but honestly she didn't want to. It seemed rude, she knew, but she didn't need a chaperone to dinner. She didn't think Tom had any sort of bad intentions, and surely Nate would have known if he did. Plus...how bad could an ex-X-man be? "Was there anything you had in mind? Like Chinese, or Thai, or Greek or whatever?" She knew a ton of restaurants, and picking one out was easy enough. She tended to eat out or get delivery most of the time. |

”I’ve fought my fair share of villains, more recently than I’d like to admit, but it’s not something to easily drop even after losing powers.” Both comments were completely accurate, as the day before he landed her fought some Kree, and playing the hero was rather addictive; the adrenaline rush it provided definitely helped mask his insecurities. Though when the question shifted to his ex, he slightly shifted uncomfortably, remembering it hadn’t been a good break. ”I wouldn’t exactly say it was intense, sure it was pretty serious as far as I’m concerned, but it wasn’t meant to be I suppose. For the life of me, I can’t remember if it was a clean break or not, but I’m confident we’re both better off. I was a bit arrogant back then due to my powers, and I made several foolish decisions, but I feel I’ve grown due to them.” He wasn’t sure if he shouldn’t said all that he did, but he was sure it should end there unless she pressed him for more details. After all, he wasn’t too sure how she’d take to the fact that he dated one of his students, especially when she was seventeen at the time they got together. Though he didn’t regret the growth it prompted in him, he did regret the way he came across the growth, but you couldn’t change the past without consequences after all. ”Though you look beautiful as is, change if you feel you must, though I definitely need to myself; especially depending on where we go.” He smiled and leaned back a little in the chair, giving a brief look of guilt at Nathaniel, though honestly glad the conversation turned out the way it did. He was t going to make the same mistakes he felt he made in the past, this date would be for the purpose of getting to know each other better, and he wasn’t exactly planning anything beyond returning her home afterwards. He had learned rushing things made it complicated, and complicated was the further from what he wanted, and he reached down to grab a napkin from the table and a pen; jotting his number down real quick. ”I’ll go ahead and give this to you, that way you can text or call when you’re ready, and I can pick you up, as for dinner; it’s your choice. I already have an idea of where we should go in San Francisco, if you don’t think I’m being too bold and hoping I get a second date.” He couldn’t help that child-like sheepish grin of embarrassment, he hadn’t flirted with anyone since as far as he could remember, and the last significant relationship he was with a female was the kind a brother and sister had. Though he couldn’t quite put his fingers on it, he felt a connection with Kate, as if they walked the same path. If his hunch was correct, then they did as they’d both be heroes, but perhaps it was something else. Though he quickly realized a problem, all he had clothing wise was what was currently on his back, so he’d have to do some quick shopping beforehand. He didn’t want to get anything too casual in case the restaurant was on the nicer side of dining, but he also didn’t want to get anything too formal in case it was a more casual environment, so he figured her should likely stick with a nice blend of the two. |

More recently than he wanted to admit? Even if things had been going horribly, her interest was piqued. "So you're still...y'know?" He had lost his powers and yet he was still going forward with the whole superhero thing, and never having had powers, she could definitely understand that need. Now she was beginning to regret not having said she was an Avenger but at the same time...why would she? Nathaniel hadn't said he was lying so far, but her secret identity wasn't something she was willing to give out right away, no matter how cute the guy was. When it came to his ex, Kate could see that Tom wasn't entirely uncomfortable talking about her. More from his body language and not exactly hesitancy but clearly he didn't think it was his proudest moment, as he talked about foolish decisions and arrogance. She herself didn't have any sort of past that she was willing to discuss, although her total lack of experience with guys had her at something of a disadvantage. "I've been asked out before, but uh, I guess I should tell you, thiswillbemyfirstdate." She hurried through her confession, hoping he didn't think she was too young now. Thankfully, as the talk turned to dinner and her need to change, he was surprisingly old-fashioned. Taking the napkin with his number on it, Kate entered it into her cell phone, grateful that he said he needed to change too; it meant she didn't need to make an excuse about why she was going to Avengers Mansion, which would have been...awkward. Even picking her up was fine, since there were enough residential apartments nearby that her being close to the Mansion made since. "I'll do my best to surprise you, then," she said, leaving what sort of surprise out entirely. "I'll send you a text when I'm ready." She wasn't at all sure how to handle a first date, let alone him making jokes about a second one, and Kate felt a little out of her element. Feeling nervous but strangely desirable, she swiftly left, hailing a taxi to take her back home. Sinking into the back seat, she groaned aloud, melodramatically. "I'm gonna have to find something suitable and I don't have anything!" That wasn't quite the truth, as her wardrobe was extensive, but a date felt like something new was warranted. She changed her mind about going home, and headed for some shopping instead. |

”Playing hero? Yeah, though I’m going about it an entirely different way now. Maybe I’ll tell you at dinner.” He smiled a little, planting the seed of curiosity, knowing having that might always come in handy. He hadn’t been on a date in a long time, not since Jubilee, at least not that he could remember. Deciding it wasn’t all that important, he listened to her mention having been asked out, but raised an eyebrow when she sped through the last little bit. So, she had never actually gone on a date before? Well, then this became all that much more important, because he wanted to make sure she enjoyed it. Though he was confident she wasn’t a minor, the confession of hers did catch him off guard a little, but he didn’t feel it was exactly polite to ask a woman her age. It didn’t really matter truthfully, he knew he’d likely find out on the date, though he did worry about how she’d react to him almost being thirty. ”Well, wherever you pick, I’m sure it’ll be fantastic. Just text me when you’re ready, and I’ll pick you up.” He couldn’t help but smile, though he wasn’t confident in his ability to really handle a relationship right now, he felt a bit of happiness welling up inside. He waved as she stood and left, getting up himself and heading out, wondering what he’d do about clothing. He really didn’t have much since his return, so he decided it’d probably be best to head to Graymalkin, at least he had a small reserve of clothes and the shops there were arguably cheaper than here. Finding the nearest alley, he opened a wormhole and stepped through, finding himself in his quarters at Graymalkin. Thankfully he had figured out how to do this without setting off every alarm possible, which was entirely thanks to Beast setting their parameters to recognize his Quantum energy signature as friendly. Heading out to the nearest shop, he began wondering how nice he should dress for this date, and decided to go with business casual. Having a plan in mind, he headed to the shops, wondering how tonight would go. |

Kate tumbled onto her bed, several bags of clothes spread out around her. Soon enough, she would start trying on clothes, and experimenting with different looks, but for the moment, it was just a girlish moment at the first time she had actually accepted a date. She had been asked out often enough and laughed it off or simply shot the guys down right away. But this, her first date, and not just a stakeout with one of the guys from the Young Avengers, or hanging out with Clint, this was supposed to be special. She had even bought sexy, frilly underwear and bras. Not that she was going all the way on the first date. But it made her feel sexy and confident, and she needed that right now. She really wished her mom was here, so she could talk to her, but she wasn't, so instead Kate turned to the next best thing: her older sister. She was married, after all, and had to have experience with guys. There was always Heather, their step-mom, but she had gone to school with Kate's sister and was only three years older than Kate herself, and she really didn't want her input on how to date older guys, when her dad was probably the main subject of that. But her sister, while full of questions, wasn't actually all that much help. Finally, after an hour and a half of trying on old clothes, new clothes, and mixing them up, she managed to settle on an outfit: a short gray minidress, showing off a lot of stocking clad leg, and a leather jacket since it was still a bit chilly once the sun went down. Heels, naturally, to make her taller, since she was decidedly average in that regard. It was more cleavage-y than Kate was used to, as well, but she still looked...respectable. She hoped. Nervously, she toyed with her phone, wondering what would make her sound calm, cool and collected, exactly the opposite of how she was feeling. Finally she settled on a text message, after writing and deleting nearly a dozen. It read simply: I'm ready and the location of the neighboring apartment building. |

Clothes shopping, if that could legitimately be a human weakness, it would be Tom’s. He never really care what he wore, so long as it wasn’t torn or tattered, he was comfortable with nearly anything. However, this was a very special occasion, it was his first date in quite a few years. He went through several shops before finally finding something he felt appropriate for this date, it wasn’t overly formal or casual, but was a nice blend of the two. He had found a grey shirt, and got a pair of black slacks and a black jacket to wear over it. He had gotten a new belt and some a nice pair of new dress shoes, the kind that had a more casual look to it. Having gone back to his room in Graymalkin, he put his original outfit in the dirty clothes hamper, making sure everything was neat and ready. Having not realized the time that had passed, Tom received the text and smiled as she was ready. Having a general idea of where she was, he Quantum Leapt to a nearby alley, walking the rest of the distance to meet her. He hadn’t really anticipated getting a ride, but this was New York and it wasn’t hard to get a taxi, plus he could play it off as having left his vehicle in San Francisco. As she came into view, he paused for a moment, taking in her entire appearance. She was stunning, a very beautiful young woman, but he felt she’d be beautiful no matter what she wore; even if it were pajamas with the bedhead look. Making his approach, he smiled and stood in front of her, reaching out to softly grasp and lift her hand where he placed a gentle kiss upon the back of her hand. ”You look very stunning this evening Kate. How’d I get lucky enough to cross paths with such an amazing young woman?” As he finished speaking, he realized how corny and cheesy it sounded, or perhaps it was just him. He mentally shook the thought from his head and moved beside her, offering his arm for her to take, wondering what she had in mind for tonight. As he waited for her reply, a realization suddenly hit him, he had gotten what he wanted earlier today. A date was the most normal thing he had done in several years, and the worries that came along with it, it was much more pleasant than the worries he faced in space. He felt normal, like the weight of the entire Universe wasn’t on his shoulder right now, something he carried since the day he lost his powers. A wave of peace washed over him, a relaxation he hadn’t had for some time, but what he knew he needed. Do I really deserve this feeling, is peace and joy something I deserve? Will she still like me when she finds out about my life? He knew he was self-sabotaging himself, he felt he hadn’t atoned for abandoning his family during the Purifiers assault, but he also knew he had to stop beating himself up. Looking at Kate, he let it sink in, deciding he’d live in the present for tonight. |

Hawkeye felt simultaneously nervous and excited as she waited outside from Tom to show up, but she didn't have to wait long. "Wow, you must have a hotel that's close. That was fast." Both standing, she noticed that even with heels, he was still more than a little bit taller than her. Kate was slightly confused as he took her hand, but then very pleased as he kissed her hand, like something out of a romance novel. She looked up at him, feeling out of her depth, like maybe now it actually counted as a date and it wasn't just her imagining how one would go. "Thanks. You clean up pretty well too, Tom. And I guess we were both just in the right place at the right time." Noticing his new shoes, she approved, seeing how clean they were. He really did clean up nicely, and tastefully too. She stood close, enough to get a whiff of his cologne, but not a good one, and so she decided to be bold, and invade his space. Kate pretended to smooth out Tom's jacket, chasing away an imaginary wrinkle, as she stood just a step or two away. "You smell nice. What is that?" She felt quite gratified too, that he was very solid under his jacket. It definitely felt like he worked out. As for the restaurant, she decided to go ahead and just say where they were going. "Welllll, since you said you travel a LOT, and haven't been back to the City for a few years. Instead of some trendy weird fusion place or something like Chinese or Indian...we're going to Grammercy's Tavern." It was expensive but not ridiculous, and Tom was old enough to drink, if he wanted. And it was more like a taste of home, really well made American food, instead of things that he might eat more often, in foreign countries. |

”I suppose you can say that, no matter where I am, I’m never truly far from home.” He knew as soon as he said it, the statement would sound weird to her, but he had a feeling it would be clear by night’s end. He was relieved as he saw the reaction shift from confusion to joy as he kissed her hand, glad it wasn’t as cheesy of corny as he first thought. He had already taken quite the liking to her, and he wanted this night to be memorable for all the right reasons. ”Thank you Kate, I definitely wanted to look my best for something as important as a date, and I’m glad you approve.” He cocked an eyebrow as she drew closer, feeling her straighten out his jacket, briefly glimpsing what he thought was her sniffing him. Perhaps he was imagining things, and even if she did, she approved of the aroma so it didn’t bother him. ”Don’t laugh now, but it’s this new bodywash I got, it’s a lavender and mint blend. If I’m being perfectly honest, the fragrance helps me relax, as I find it quite soothing.” He was fully aware he admitted he was nervous about this date, who wouldn’t be, but his track record wasn’t the most impressive. Though he had just met Kate, she did know vaguely about his heroism, and he didn’t regret saying anything to her about it. If she worked at the Maria Stark Foundation, she was use to working alongside Heroes, as he knew the Avengers occasionally made appearances at charity events. He felt there was more to her than what she stated, but she’d tell him when she was ready, and he definitely didn’t feel like it was his business to coerce her into sharing something she didn’t want to. As she mentioned where she had selected for dinner, he briefly held a look of confusion, until he realized he had merely stated he traveled the work. Her assumption would be spot on had his statement earlier been entirely accurate, but due to not revealing his job was in outer space, she could only use the information he provided. He wasn’t complaining about the choice at all, a Tavern sounded fantastic, and honestly he would have been fine with any restaurant. Taking her arm and smiling, he nodded his head in agreeance, standing as he pondered how they’d get there. ”So Miss Bishop, how shall we get to Grammercy’s Tavern? Shall we walk there, or should we call a taxi? It’s your call, I’m fine doing either.” Of course, if he knew the location and she knew about his powers, he’d get them there in an instant. |

"That sounds like its either something really really Zen or something you just made up on the spot, Tom." Or something Clint would say, when he was Kate made no effort to move away, in fact pressing a little closer to Tom as he described the bodywash he was using. "It smells really good. You should keep using it for a while." Maybe they could go dancing later on. Or she could think up some other excuse to get closer than normal. Most guys she knew did not smell good, and worse, wore terrible cologne and too much of it. It might have been one of the reasons she continually turned them down when they asked her out. The mint and lavender was a refreshing change. "Grammercy's is only a few blocks. We can walk, if you're up for it. Um, I guess I should tell you now, too. They serve alcohol there but, um, I'm not old enough to drink yet?" He was probably going to think she was too young now, but better to explain why she wouldn't be ordering a drink with him at dinner. "Or rent a car. But I'm old enough for everything else." Oh God, had she really just said that aloud? Her face went red. "I mean, I'm eighteen." Why did she keep having to talk? Why was she was so bad at this whole boy thing? She did, however, just fine in getting them there, simultaneously letting him lead there while subtly steering him so he went the right way. Apparently not all the feminine wiles of the family had gone to her sister. |

”I suppose that is what it sounds like, and besides, home is wherever we feel most secure.” Though it’s honestly how he felt, and what he’d use to say to students when he was the Guidance Counselor, he hadn’t really had a place to call home these past two years. Sure, he had a place to rest on his visits to earth to deliver the artifacts he found, but that was less a home and more a rest-stop. He couldn’t help but smirk a little as she stated that she definitely approves of his attire, and it only grew as she said he should keep using the bodywash for awhile. Her statement already enforced the idea that this might go somewhere, and at that realization, a very faint blush crossed his cheeks. He often times never really took his own scent into consideration, after all when you were busy playing Protector of the Universe, your only concern hygiene wise was being clean. It was until his return to Earth that he started really using scented bodywash, and even then sparingly. As she began to speak about the distance and then her age, he paused a little and gave her a curious glance, wondering just how old she was now. Though, before he could ask, she went on and told him her age. He couldn’t help but laugh as she blurted out that she was old enough for everything else, noticing her face going red, leaning hug her gently against his chest. ”Don’t be embarrassed Kate, I know what you meant, and you should know I turn thirty this year. I definitely don’t think you’re too young, and I hope you don’t think I’m too old.” He paused for a moment, pulling back a little and smiling down at her, allowing her time to process that before adding more. ”As for the drinking, don’t worry, I rarely drink so I won’t be indulging tonight.” As they headed to the restaurant, he knew she was subtlying guiding him, giving the impression he was leading them. He couldn’t help but chuckle a little on the inside, his arm wrapped around hers and holding her close as they made their way. In truth, he appreciated her guiding, at least he’d get to their destination and not get them lost; and he also appreciates the subtlety of it. As they arrived, he opened the door and held it for her, smiling as he pulled his arm from hers to politely wave her in. ”After you milady.” He realized it might seem corny, but he tried stating it in a fashion that came across as playful, wanting her to know he was trying to relax around her. Also, she was of New York nobility being a Bishop after all, so it was quite fitting as well. |

You're not the hero of this story. I am.

"Where we feel most secure?" Kate leaned closer into Tom. She tilted her head up and whispered breathily into his ear, "Guess I'm home then." Maybe I can do this flirting thing, she thought, gauging from his reaction. In some ways, he made her think of Clint; not quite as hard-edged as he wanted others to think he was, confident but not arrogant. That same kinda not-cool but so cool I'm not even gonna try thing too. It was certainly working on her, so she couldn't really criticize it too much. Next she knew, she was in an embrace with him, as he told her that he was thirty. THIRTY!! First date and it was with an older man! Could she still call out her dad for marrying a girl the same age as her sister? "Well you totally don't look it, I was guessing, like, 27 at the most." She felt reassured that he didn't think she was too young. Twelve years isn't that big a deal. He's almost twice your age. He's hot though. A lot of different things flashed through her mind at once, and she realized she didn't care. She would date whoever the hell she wanted to date. Once they had arrived, he held the door for her to go in, which she did. In a fight, she wasn't a damsel in distress, even with no powers. But a date wasn't a fight, and she liked being treated nicely, chivalrously, she guessed, for lack of another term. They got a table, which wasn't really secluded or even particularly romantic. It was a first date, a getting to know each other, not a marriage proposal, after all. But just to show that she wasn't helpless and that she wanted to be an equal, she spoke again. "My city, my treat. When we get to San Francisco, your turn." It was very forward, and she knew she shouldn't have been so upfront. But she knew how she wanted things to go. Belatedly, she realized she should have taken a few minutes to consult the Avengers' records and try to find him in it. They talked to the X-men, at least sometimes. There would be some kinda record of him, wouldn't there? She didn't really look at her menu as much as see if they had added anything new and interesting. She was pretty basic when it came to food, and that was one of the reasons she liked Grammercy's. Nothing too crazy but it was all very good. A cheeseburger and fries here were heavenly, and she had done strength training today. Nobody could Avenge on brown rice and salads, and Kate knew she was in good enough shape that nobody would be calling her out about it. "Any idea of what you want to have? It won't take too long." And maybe she could convince him to get a bottle of wine or something after they left, and go back to his place. Night caps were the sophisticated thing to do, after all. |

When she whispered in his ear, he couldn’t help but blush a little, even enough that she’d notice. Surely she didn’t already feel that and was just being a flirt, but she didn’t strike him as the flirtatious type, not that there was anything wrong with it. As she reacted to his age, he noticed the initial shock, but soon saw the acceptance, and took it for a good sign. ”I guess I’ll take that as a compliment, at least you’re not running for the hills, so that gives me hope you’re still interested.” He smiled as she entered and followed her, finding their table and taking a seat after pulling her chair out and pushing it in for her. Though this wasn’t typical behavior for Tom, it was date behavior for him, and this time he really wanted to make it count. Something about Kate just fascinated him, and though she was very beautiful and easy on the eyes as some would put it, she seemed to have an intelligence most woman her age didn’t eagerly display. Another factor was definitely her family status, though not because of the status and wealth that went along with the Bishop family name, but because she didn’t seem to let it define her or even use it to her advantage like the stereotypical rich girl. ”Typically I’d insist on treating, but we’ll play by your rules, so San Francisco is my treat.” He only wished he had viewed the menu before agreeing to that, but he had a feeling she wanted this route to play the equal card, which was what he’d want in a relationship. Skimming the menu, he realized finding something for the sake of getting the least expensive item wasn’t exactly easy, so he decided to try something somewhat new. For a tavern, though now that he realized it the name was likely purely in ideal alone, Gramercy wasn’t exactly tavern like. When the time came, he ordered a coke with no ice and the Gramercy Tavern Burger, medium rare. Looking over st Kate, he couldn’t help but chuckle a little to himself as she ordered the burger as well, glad she wasn’t one of those ‘I need a salad for every meal’ kind of women. ”I’ll be an open book tonight, so any questions you have, I’ll answer honestly. Since it seems clear we’re both interested in pursuing this further, how about we get the baggage out of the way. You already know I have a horrible track record when it comes to dating, so there’s that out of the way.” He couldn’t help but grin, not the cocky sort of grin, but the type did come across as a little pleased with oneself. Sure, having a track record like his wasn’t exactly great, but at least Kate knew before the date and still agreed to go on one, so he felt assured by that. |
