Loki raised both eyebrows in surprise at Moonchild's explanation. Why surprise? Well, because Loki figured someone like her shouldn't even remotely have to settle for something as trivial as gainful employment. Surely she was stunning enough to use her looks alone to manipulate the whiles of any man and be well taken care of... but then, of course, she'd stated that she didn't want to rely on hospitality of others. "Ah... so you're looking to actually join and integrate with these... people." Loki combed a few fingers through her own long dark hair, shaking her head in mild disapproval. "I think it beneath you. And to use so cheap a trick as granting a 'wish' for someone else that is for you? It seems rather disingenuous, to an extent..." "If you've been around nearly as long as I have, there is no profession in this realm that would do you justice, or be worthy of you. The wisdom you must hold! The experience! It matters little if these humans decide to believe their gods still exist... I never got much love from them, and what appreciation I did get meant very little to me, after all. They are so small and brief upon this world, and yet think themselves masters of it."[color] She shook her head a little, walking further with her new friend, and sighing somewhat. "If I was the ruler of Midgard, I'd give you a job. In fact! I could give you a job, right now. As many certificates and documents as you'd ever need, in fact!" Loki stopped walking for a moment, and just turned to look at Moon. "You've no reason to wish for it properly from me. I freely give it. But maybe... if I did such a thing, I'd deserve compensation? What manner of wishes can you grant? If I wished to be formally recognized and uncontested as Loki, Undisputed Monarch of Midgard... could you grant it? Not that I'd wish for such a thing in exchange for giving you silly pieces of paper, since if I were Undisputed Monarch, I'd do away with such things. Bureaucracy is the real evil, not me, after all." |

"In order to gain items without having people wish for me to have them then I must integrate with them."Plus as she had explained she was trying to be independent. In order to have food, water, a roof over her head, clothing, etc Moon had learned she needed a job and to have that she needed documentation. "I was told in order to have things like clothing, food, among other necessities I would need a job." The problem was that she hadn't ever worked. She had magic and was trapped in a lamp only 'working' whenever people rubbed the lamp but even then it was her magic that worked, not Moon herself. Dark orbs seemed to spark to life upon hearing that Loki could give her a job and the documentation she needed. Yet she knew to tread cautiously. Yet before she could ask what type of job would be given there was the potential catch for Loki wondered if he/she would get compensation from giving such a gift. "If you are offering me the documentation and the job freely then why ask for compensation? As it is I cannot give you what does not already exist. There never has been one ruler of Migard and currently their rulers are often called Presidents, among other names. So I could not make you the Undisputed Monarch of Migard." At least not now, now that she was free. When she was still a genie trapped in a lamp her magic was endless though could be reversed in a variety of ways. "If the appreciation and worship you received in the past meant so little to you then why do you wish for more of it by becoming Undisputed Monarch of Migard?" |

"That's a basic thing from the dawn of Midgardian civilization. As soon as they organized, they learned how to divide up work, pay each other in chickens and eggs, and then it turned to pretty rocks, and now it is just... imaginary. Bah." Loki disliked some of the aspects of the modern world's economy. It was less about material wealth and more about how much pretend money you could gain. They didn't even CARRY physical money anymore! It was all pretend money stored in fake vaults that you could possibly go your whole life without handling these days. But even with her obvious power and wisdom, there was apprehension to Moonchild. She wondered why Loki asked for compensation. Was it really a misstep, to see the upper limits of her power? No. In asking a question that could instill doubt in a brief acquaintance, Loki learned that what she wanted wouldn't be easily attained. And that was enough. "Why would I pretend otherwise? I've a goal for this world, and if I were ruler, I would employ you, and pay you what you deserve. I can do that now, sure, without being a figure of authority to the Midgardians, but it would be, in essence... a lie. It will be a trick, a perfect trick, a forgery, the things I'd give to you. Identification. Money. Employment. They wouldn't be real if the right people, such as some of these heroic so-called 'warriors' came down upon my head, and put me away, or had me undo what I would do for you. Because such things aren't legal." "Their rules, their systems... I don't want to destroy them, but they need change if they keep you from your goals. So many people face injustice in the name of justice! Disorder born from Midgardian attempts to make order! Lies disguised as truth! And yet... I would be a poor ruler? I do not deserve to make them better?" She threw her head back and laughed for a moment. "A real king, queen, emperor, god... They don't need appreciation. They don't need worship. And as I am a god without their belief, so too can I be their ruler without their permission. Again I ask... Why would I pretend otherwise, to you, that I do not wish that you could grant such a wish? Why would I pretend that, when I look at you, I see... potential. Potential for yourself, but more importantly, for me. Is it wrong to grant someone a form of independence for my own personal gain?" Loki stared at Moonchild with an intensity, her tone accusatory, as if any answer could be the wrong one if her words weren't chosen carefully... "Fear not, however. For I am not so utterly selfish. I can still give you a job, a job that pays, and all the information and things you need to be a part of this world... but I insist that that job be one where you work for me." Given that what Loki was stating about giving the items that Moon would need for employment would be, basically put, a lie and could be quickly reversed should any heroes make her. What the, currently, female Loki was offering were things that Moon needed but would be illegal to obtain. Even the items she currently had weren't legally hers yet without them she'd be naked and be thrown into jail for sure. Now guilt rumbled deep within as thoughts of the outfit she had on currently, the things she was trying to make that man wish for, what Loki was offering all stirred within her mind. "In some way or form that is how the world works. Take the modern world, someone sees potential in a product they create it mostly for their own gain. Even those that claim that it is for the benefit of others end up comfortable with what they gain. The same can be said for actors, comedians, and the like. For someone saw them and thought that there was something to be gained from their talent and in sharing that talent a monetary gain was also earned by the one who introduced them to the world." So yes, it made sense why Loki would grant Moon independence yet have some sort of gain as well. For a moment the brunette beauty thought over the proposal of working for the god/goddess. Well, it was a job and she'd be able to experience the world as it current was. "What would such a job entail, if I may ask?" It would seem that the acquaintance type relationship that she had slowly eased into was now to be an employer/employee type of relationship. Yet she wasn't going to fully commit to a job she had no idea of what she'd be doing. As naive as the former genie could be she wasn't stupid. Though unaware of a great deal, especially in the modern era she was stuck within, she wasn't without intelligence. Edited by Moonchild, Jun 19 2018, 08:53 PM.

"Disdain for some aspects of the world doesn't mean I can't commend some Midgardians for waking up and seeing that such systems as those work well. If I was bolder, I'd claim responsibility for teaching them such things... but they are duplicitous on their own, and needed no patron god of lying and cheating to learn how to swindle. But, I hope to be more... honest with some people worthy of my honesty." Loki grinned at Moon, and then reached into her own pockets to take out a few things. The first one was a state identification card for the state of New York, which she passed over. The name? Moon Child. "Before I tell you what the job is... Here. See that I am honest when I say I can provide. Identification. A little card that tells people who you are, proves that your face is your own, and lots of other small details." And then a social security card! "This is some kind of sorting number that gives you... benefits or something when you reach a certain age, but also used as identification." And then a full on birth certificate. "And a receipt from a hospital that proves you fell out of a woman into the hands of a midwife. And there is more where that came from." Loki fanned herself with a hand, and suddenly that hand was full of many, many bills of the green-ish, papery currency these mortals used to buy things. "The job will pay well. You won't become a millionaire, but you'll live comfortably at one of the properties I've hidden away in this city, and I'll also give you as much money as you ask me for... within reason. As for what I'll be paying you for? I need an assistant. In the past, I've worked with people for all kinds of things; sometimes I manipulated mortals into coming together to destroy my enemies. I'm not above stealing away the free will of others to serve as my temporary slaves for the same purposes. But, I'm trying some slightly new things, or I will be. And I need someone that has a mind for... sorting through such arrangements. People will try to call me on their telephones, they will send me things via their paper messaging services or their digital messaging services..." "Essentially, I need a secretary and personal assistant. I won't have you do anything perilous, if you so wish, nor would I have you sully your hands with blood. But this will work towards my ultimate goal of becoming the ruler of Midgard. If you want to become apart of a world that won't accept you, then please... Hand back my gifts. Continue to walk alone, struggling to find your own way. Find some warrior to lean on, to love. Or, serve me. I don't ask for admiration, love, or even friendship. Only servitude. And for that, I will treat you as you deserve to be - fairly." |
