Canon/Original: Pre-Made App by Trevor Codename: Thing Real Name: Benjamin Grimm Nickname: Ben, Rocky Age: 39 Gender: Male Race: Mutate Appearance: Ben Grimm is six feet tall and weighs roughly five hundred pounds. It isn’t because he’s obese or anything just the fact he’s made of rock. His muscle structure, skin is composed of an orange-brown tinted clay like rock. His eyes are a crystal blue and he has no hair. Ben has broad shoulders and his body shape is like that of a fine toned athlete, if said athlete was made of rock. Ben also, while as rock only has four fingers and four toes. Clothing: Ben can and does wear normal clothing at times, though usually its just his combat suit. All the suit composes of though is a pair of pants so as he says he can ‘move around’. Ben has been seen wearing trench-coats and other loose and baggy clothes to try and cover up his deformity but for the most part he just deals with it. Weapons / Armor / Gear: None Skills / Education/ Training: Ben is very well skilled in flying a jet, plane, etc. Powers: Due to being exposed to the same cosmic rays as Reed, Sue, and Johnny, Ben’s skin has taken the likeness of rock. His internal organs, tissue, muscles, and bone structures have also had this same effect. This gives him his orange like color and also helps prevent serious injury. The toughness and density of his body has increased greatly. It’s been proven that over time and with training Ben’s strength has gradually continued to grow. When he was first granted the powers of the Thing he could lift roughly five tons. As time past and he focused more on training his abilities they increased and steadily grew as he did. On a scale of one to a hundred, one being the strength of a superb athlete and one hundred being the Juggernaut, the Thing comes in at about forty-five and gradually growing. He has been seen though, through feats of adrenaline and sheer determination to lift or hold back more than his limit though this greatly weakens him. The most he has ever lifted was when he kept a building from toppling over and forced it back up-right. The building weighed roughly thirty-thousand tons. Thing’s stamina is far greater than most heroes. His body produces extremely low amounts of fatigue rendering chemicals. Meaning he can exert himself for a solid twenty-four hours before becoming tired or showing a need to stop. However if Ben exerts himself far beyond his range as for example keeping a building from toppling over he shows signs of tiring almost immediately. Also, because of Ben’s large lungs from the transformation he can hold his breath for a considerably long time. Almost ten minutes under water without needing a breath even though Ben used to be a cigarette smoker. Because of his rock like transformation Thing is almost impenetrable. I say ‘almost’ meaning as in the only thing to ever pierce or cut him was a slash from Wolverine’s adamantium claws. He has been shot with bazookas, stood near explosions, been pounded on by the Hulk and other various and equally strong mutants/super-beings and never sustained injury. His body can withstand cold temperatures that would kill any human. His body can also withstand extreme heats up to eight-hundred degrees Fahrenheit for up to an hour before showing the heat starting to take its toll. Weakness: Ben, is in simpler terms; Clumsy. His body structure and size makes him accidentally break things or trip and crush a car. Because of this most people with speed instead of strength can take advantage of this, causing him to trip himself into a trap. Another thing is he isn’t immortal, if someone were to fashion some adamantium bullets or shrapnel to place around a bazooka casing, well he’d be done for. His temper is another thing, he doesn’t take well to being ‘instigated’ into fighting and can lose his composure. Meaning he’ll go in all out and usually be tricked into a trap or set-up to be put in harms way. Another thing is his acceptance in everyday life, yes most people know him as the Thing and that he’s a superhero but he can’t walk down the street without those eyes watching. It makes him feel like an outcast, like they’re more scared of him than the bad guys. This has lead to him making some rash decisions but as of late it hasn’t been that big of a problem. Personality: Ben comes across as your average tough guy. Keeping to himself and being more of a ‘cocky’ jock than a caring friend. He’s easily aggravated which there is plenty of proof of when Hothead is around. His confidence is fueled mainly by his cocky attitude and will to win. He’s been the best at just about everything he’s ever done and feels there’s no room for failure. His confidence and over the top attitude has landed him in some pretty tight spots before but with his friends to help he finds a way to cool off and get the job done. But as the rest of the team can tell you, once you get past his ‘rock-like’ emotional guard he can be a caring guy. Willing to put himself on the line to save Reed, Sue or Johnny and any civilians that may be in trouble due to fighting between heroes/villians or villians/villians or heroes/heroes. (I'm also focusing on Ben trying to cope with looking different like he did in the earlier comics and the film. Not liking how people think of him as a monster looking creature.) History: Ben was born on Lower East side of Manhattan, on Yancy Street. He was the son of Daniel and Elsie Grimm and had an older brother named Daniel Junior. His family was Jewish and growing up Ben’s father couldn’t keep a job. He was an alcoholic and let his addiction get the better of him. His older brother Daniel was the main supporter of the household. Daniel Junior was the leader of the Yancy Street Gang and used his money he earned to support his family. Growing up, Ben idolized Daniel and wanted to be just like him. That was until he was eight years old when his brother was killed by a rivaling gang. Within ten years Ben had risen the ranks of the Yancy Street Gang and took over what his brother left. Then, another tragic turn of events led to the death of his parents. Still in high school his aunt and uncle took him in. They had a poverty ridden background but through determination and will they made a successful living as a physician. They were loving and caring, showing support for the young teenager and at first he had nothing to do with them. But eventually he came around, warming up them. He left the gang and returned to high school where he started playing football and excelled in it. Playing high school football landed Ben with a scholarship to go to college at State University. His freshmen year room-mate was none other than the brilliant Reed Richards. During their year together, Reed confided in Ben that he one day wanted to build a space ship that was interstellar. Ben didn’t take him seriously but told him that when that day came he would pilot it for him. After graduating however, Ben went on and joined the Air Force. He was one of the most skilled pilots they’d ever trained and before everything was done with he was a trained shuttle pilot and astronaut. During this time period Reed was working on his interstellar ship and came to Ben to be the pilot. After being threatened to have their budget cut, Richard’s decided that it was time to take its first flight. Ben tried to sway his decision by saying the shields could be underpowered and other various things that could possibly go wrong. Reed didn’t think anything out of the ordinary would happen and before Ben knew it he had agreed to go along with it. Accompanied by Reed’s college crush Sue Storm and her younger brother Johnny Storm they four made their way on the first interstellar trip. That’s when something happened. Chemicals and solar flares cause a flare in typical cosmic radiation that none of the group foresaw. Passing through it the crew learned that the shields were in fact not strong enough to protect the four inside. Ben noticed along with them that the controls were touched by the cosmic radiation and that the controls were acting up. He was forced to turn the ship around and return to Earth with the four. Once they were back on Earth they learned that the cosmic radiation had mutagenic changes on the four. Reed was now extremely elastic, Johnny could ignite in flames and not be harmed and Sue could go invisible and create barriers. Ben was transformed into a rock like creature with super-strength and other abilities. It was Reed who talked the group into using their powers to help humanity and protect people.
