Each and every starter must step up and do their thing. Right hand hitters must not pull Cliff Lee. And this dude doesn't walk hitters.

As always, I'm nervous. Hopefully the Yanks only have to face Lee once. Game 7 at Texas vs Lee is unwinnable.

Right now the only thing I take solace in is we might only have to see Lee once as opposed to two guaranteed starts if the Rangers had knocked off the Rays in 3 or 4. But yeah, as Rob said, Game 7 in Texas, Lee on the mound, if that happens we're finished and I'm infuriated that that is even a possibility. Fecking Montero better become a damn All-Star catcher who averages 30 HRs a year. And if Cashman doesn't get us Cliff Lee in the offseason we need a new GM, there is no question about that.

Wildcard, say Texas beats the Yankees behind a Cliff Lee gem, Yanks sign Cliff Lee in the offseason and Montero develops into a stud. What's the mood then?

I'd be happy it worked out for the Yanks from 2011 on. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want that Lee deal done the second I heard about it back in July and if we lose this series to Texas behind a Lee gem I am going to be very pissed off.

Fair enough. Was listening to Buster Olney who said Seattle made a mistake in taking Smoak over Montero. Doesn't make me any less annoyed we almost had him, but makes it harder to blame Cashman if he had the better deal on the table.

It makes Seattle look dumb but I can't let Cashman off the hook. You have to close that deal. I know Montero could end up a superstar but he could just as likely be a total bust. If we had moved him for Cliff Lee this team would've been as close to a guarantee for a WS Championship as one can get. Now, I also get the argument about going after the guy as an FA and potential of young players and all that. But you have to give to get and it's not like we'd be dealing for an over the hill Randy Johnson here, which is how some people reacted to the news.

I give Cashman credit for this. He knew that Vazquez was a pile of sh*t despite a decent stretch just before the All-Star break. He realized Burnett was going to be unreliable as I think we all could tell and he had Hughes on the inning limit not to mention Pettitte is 38 and you never know what can happen with a guy that age. He saw a problem and went to try and solve it with the best available option. Unfortunately he didn't close. He better give the recruiting pitch of a lifetime to Lee this offseason and sign him.
