That was months ago. Hughes shoulders no blame for his struggles? None? And if he's so weak mentally that one skipped start, one small alteration to his routine, would do that much damage, he's got more bitch in him than Mussina did. I don't think that's the case.

This. Just a 24 year old going through his first full season as a starter. The key will be the playoffs but we've at least seen glimpses into what he can be.

I think he'll be fine next year too, but I'm starting to worry about the playoffs, because unlike most Yankee fans, I completely expect Andy Pettitte to come back and suck or re-injure himself. Strider is right, Hughes needs to shoulder some of this blame. Either he forgot he has a curveball/cutter/changeup, or he is flat out refusing to throw them.
