Bad start for Hughes last night. He hasn't had his curve ball since early in the year and has pretty much abandoned the cutter, which was never a great pitch for him results wise, but he was doing well when he mixed it in. Hasn't thrown the change since spring training. Being a one pitch pitcher is causing him to nibble and now he's walking people. I know most of us didn't expect much more than a ~3.90, but I did, and as a "fan" of his, his recent performance has been a little disappointing. You can't have a 1/5 k/bb ratio against the A's. |

It's his first full season; him slowly getting less effective as the season moves on is no surprise. Next year will be very telling on what type of pitcher he will be. |
