Not a big deal at all. The playoffs are a lock for this team. Just get him healthy for the playoffs.

Kocur doesn't think the Yankees are making the playoffs. Boston is.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Andy Pettitte will not be taking a big step back from the disabled list any time soon, and no matter how that is viewed, it’s not good news for the Yankees.
After making 50 pitches in a simulated situation in Tampa, the veteran lefty told Joe Girardi the left groin injury didn’t allow him to push off the pitching rubber at full tilt.
So, instead of making a minor league rehab start Tuesday for Trenton (Double-A), Pettitte flew here.
“I definitely think he thinks it’s a setback. You would have to ask him,’’ said Girardi, who explained Pettitte mentioned the groin problem but not the hip flexor tendon that felt tight Thursday when a simulated exercise was canceled. “I think he felt he was going to go through (the simulated activity) and make a rehab start.’’

The plan calls for Pettitte to relax and receive treatment. If he responds to that program he will try another simulated game in five days in Trenton or back in Tampa.
When Pettitte left a game on July 18, the Yankees told him it could be five weeks before he returned. During the early process, Pettitte was encouraged by the progress. And when he went to Tampa last week he believed a simulated game and possibly two rehab starts would pave the way for his return.
Now? Who knows. And that’s disturbing news for the Yankees, who not only need Pettitte back but pitching like he did before he went on the shelf. In 18 starts he was 11-2 with a 2.88 ERA.
It’s not a stretch to believe that if Pettitte doesn’t return and pitch well the Yankees won’t hold off the Rays in the AL East or the Red Sox for the AL wild card. They started action two games up on the Rays and six ahead of the Red Sox.
As for what happened in Tampa, Girardi got the news from Pettitte on the phone.
“It didn’t go as well as we wanted,’’ Girardi said in a casual tone. “He felt like he could only push off 75 percent.’’
So, instead of preparing for a minor league game for Trenton on Tuesday, Pettitte will be around the Yankees stuck in idle for a few days.
“He will join us (Saturday) and we will evaluate him, sit him down for a couple of days and probably have to do (a simulated game) again before we sent him out on a rehab start,’’ Girardi said. “His rehab start won’t be Monday or Tuesday.’’
According to Girardi, Pettitte doesn’t believe the groin injury is 100 percent gone.
“He doesn’t feel like it’s completely healed,’’ Girardi said. “You will have to ask him for a better description of what he feels but he doesn’t feel it’s at full strength.’’
