You know why? because Long is solely there for A-Rod and his dramatics and confidence or lack thereof ....

I really have no idea how the batting coach-player relationship works. Is it like an optional thing where the player comes to you? Does Giradi prescribe guys to go see him like a doctor refering you to a specialist? If Long constantly told a player to go the other way/don't swing first pitch but they did anyway is there any consequence? |

That title gets tossed around a lot. A few years ago everybody said the guy from the Rangers (Rudy Jaramillo?) was by far the best. And then somebody else. And then somebody else. It's like soccer fans with the "best player in the world" sh*t that changes every month. A brilliant coach needs talented players. Some of the bums the Yankees have had before could've gone a year making minimal suggestions and still looked OK because of the team leading the league in runs. And on the other hand, if Long worked for the Padres, he'd have probably been fired already. I do give him credit for spending that 2008 offseason with Cano and changing his stance. That paid off. And he did good for Swisher this offseason. We'll see how it goes with Granderson. Long has done some good stuff, but I can't call it on that "best coach" thing. |
