This actually intrigued me for a second, then I found it was a lame front office job

This is the first step of Messier taking over the Rangers down the road, even if they say he's not the heir apparent. I love this move. Let him learn the business and then take control.

This would be like a Yankee fan getting excited about O'Neill being in the front office. He was a hell of a f*cking warrior and great player, but that doesn't translate to success in the front office.

It's nothing like that. Messier is one of the best leaders/captains in the history professional sports. It's always been thought that if he put his mind to learning the business of hockey, he could become a top executive. This is the first step and I am hopful he will develop into a strong front office guy. Paul O'Neill can't even handle a full-time schedule with the YES Network.

Being a great leader or captain of a team doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be able to build a great team if and when you are handed the keys to a franchise.

Yeah, that's why they're giving him a shot to learn the business and why I HOPE it works out. Thanks, Captain Obvious, as opposed to Captain Messier.

I hope he ignores everything Sather does and says.

What he needs to ultimately do is execute a coup to get rid of Sather and Dolan like he did with Roger Nielson.
