2 year deal according to Marc Stein from espn.com

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4342767

Quote:

The Orlando Magic's active offseason continued Monday when they closed in on a deal to sign free-agent forward Matt Barnes, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

Barnes

One source told ESPN.com that Barnes and the Magic have agreed in principle on a two-year deal for an undisclosed amount that could be announced as early as Tuesday.

Since reaching the NBA Finals for just the second time in franchise history, Orlando has traded for former All-Star swingman Vince Carter, signed free-agent forward Brandon Bass, matched a five-year, $34 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Marcin Gortat and pursued Barnes to join a group of newcomers that also includes Ryan Anderson from the Carter trade.

Barnes, 29, averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season for Phoenix and is regarded as a versatile player off the bench who can guard forwards of all sizes and make the occasional 3-point shot.

The Magic began the week with roughly $1.9 million left from their $5.9 million mid-level exception after signing Bass.

With Hedo Turkoglu leaving in free agency to sign with the Toronto Raptors and Orlando forced to sacrifice Courtney Lee, Tony Battie and Rafer Alston in the Carter trade, last season's Eastern Conference champions will have a decidedly different look next season.

But Magic general manager Otis Smith has been unafraid to aggressively re-shape the supporting cast around his All-Star trio of Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson, undoubtedly aware that the Los Angeles Lakers were the first NBA team since the Detroit Pistons in 1989 to lose in the NBA Finals and come back to win the championship in the following season.

Roster is really starting to come together, this team looks primed for another run, but no doubt Boston and Cleveland are going to be tough, the East will be very top heavy again, I think the Top 3 all improved.

Top 3 improved, if the Heat get Boozer they'll be a contender, moreso if they land Odom too. Washington is also improved.

Agreed, if the Heat get both Odom and Boozer they are clearly the 4th best in the East and could make some noise.

The Orlando Magic second unit....

C- Gortat
PF- Anderson
SF- Barnes
SG- Pietrus
PG- C.J. Watson

I honestly think no team can throw out a 2nd unit like that, pretty damn good.

Oh yeah, C.J. Watson is pending as he's a restricted free agent so Golden State can match our offer sheet but likely won't. Although that's what Mavs fans were saying about Gortat.

The Celtics have a decent bench with either Rasheed Wallace or Perkins along with Marquis Daniels now but that's a deep team.

Another team to watch out for the in the East is Toronto. A frontcourt of Bargnani, Bosh and Hedo is very tall, very long and all can shoot. Throw in the likes of Calderon and now Jarrett Jack as depth and that's a playoff team I think.

No doubt, Celtics are deep as hell as well, I think we're a little deeper especially if we do indeed add Watson, but overall if healthy the Celtics are the favorite.

Yeah, Toronto wants to play like Orlando, and they have the size and shooters to do it. What they don't have? A Dwight Howard, they don't have a true banger in there and that will hurt them. Toronto should definitely be a playoff team.

It's going to be a very deep conference. I think it's broken down into tiers and much like the west a good team is not going to make the playoffs.

Elite:

Cleveland
Orlando
Boston

Almost elite if healthy

Miami

Upstarts

Chicago
Toronto
Atlanta

Still very good

Washington
Philadelphia
Detroit

That's 10 teams. Should be a good season.

The Marquis Daniels signing by Boston must have slipped under my radar.

With Barnes coming in not so fast on the C.J. Watson deal, Magic have not yet extended an offer sheet to him but it's still a possibility. But the Magic are looking for another point guard to go along with Anthony Johnson backing up Jameer and another big man behind Howard and Gortat.

Daniels was another good pickup by the Celtics, they are going all out this year to get back on top.

I'm not sure what to make of Detroit, I think they can be anywhere from a 5-8 seed or even not make the playoffs at all. Gun to head right now here is how I see the East.

1. Celtics
2. Magic
3. Cavs
4. Heat
5. Raptors
6. Hawks
7. Pistons
8. Bulls

Oh yeah, I'm also predicting 3 60 win teams in the East. Last time that happened in the NBA was back during the 97-98 season in the West. Jazz- 62 wins Lakers and Sonics each with 61 wins. Almost happened this past year, Magic just fell short being the 3rd team in the East to achieve 60 wins last season winning 59 games.

I agree with the teams but that also is not including a very good Philadelphia team. If they bring back Andre Miller and get a healthy year out of Brand they're a good team.

I mean with those bottom 3 spots they can go anyway, Philly will be in the mix but Miller is key and as you mentioned the health of Brand and also the factor of how Brand fits with this team if healthy.
