Yankees Part Ways With Meacham, a Girardi Choice
By TYLER KEPNER
Published: October 14, 2008

LOS ANGELES — When Joe Girardi was hired as the Yankees’ manager last fall, he brought along two people: Bobby Meacham as the third-base coach and Mike Harkey as the bullpen coach. The Yankees announced Tuesday that Meacham would not be back for 2009, perhaps eroding some of Girardi’s support in the clubhouse.

“I believe in the manager having input in the staff, and last year Joe signed off on every hire,” General Manager Brian Cashman said. “It was important for him to have Bobby and Mike Harkey with him, and I believe in giving the manager the staff he wants and not forcing anyone on him. But he understands — as well as I understand — that it’s got to work for both of us.”

At the end of the season, Girardi sounded surprised that coaching changes would even be considered. It was typical of a manager who often seemed in a state of denial, whether it was refusing to acknowledge that any player ever slumped, or cheerily maintaining that he had a strong relationship with the news media.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them put Thomson at 3rd and Willie as the bench coach.

Good move, he was a terrible third base coach.

Willie should be the choice, not a great 3B coach, I like Bowa, probably the best in the business but I dought he comes here. Maybe put Thompson at third and Willie to bench coach or just put Willie at third, but bottom line is this, I want Joey G out SOON!!!!
