"I should have pushed harder for the [Johan] Santana deal," said Hank, who was talked out of signing Santana by Hal and GM Brian Cashman because they believed the Yankees' talent (Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy and Melky Cabrera) and the money (Santana signed a six-year, $137.5 million extension with the Mets) was too costly.

I have the distinct feeling Sabathia ain't coming here. Get me Burnett.

Also Hughes, Horne and Melky for Peavy. :agent:

I'll go to war with this:

Joba
Wang
Peavy
Burnett
Aceves/Coke/Kennedy

Peavy has said he won't waive his no trade clause to the AL and he doesnt want to come to the East Coast. He won't be in pinstripes.

:please: Please get your facts straight, MooMoo.

In recent conversations with Peavy, Axelrod said there are "three teams in the AL that could entice him."

Axelrod did not specifically mention the Yankees, but said, "Any kid, you’d imagine, always thinks about wearing the pinstripes some day. But it’d be a pretty significant move for him." New Jersey Record, Oct 10, 2008

If push comes to shove, I'd be willing to go Hughes, Kennedy and Cano for Peavy and Gonzalez, then sign Orlando Hudson to play second. :peace:

I don't think he'd come here. I read that but still get the feeling his agent just doesn't want other teams to think the Yankees wouldn't be involved. Believe me I'd trade Hughes for him but I don't see it happening.

I do like the idea of trading Cano for a big time pitcher and then signing Hudson.

We won't get Peavy. The minute we ask about him they'll want Joba, and that will kill negotiations. I can't see a package including Hughes and Cano (and even Kennedy) being enough either. They rate him very very highly. Boston were rumoured to be interested, but they'll want Lester from them and that will kill him going there as well.

I don't think we're getting CC. I think we'll get Burnett on a contract that is too long and pay for it. I hope we bring Moose back. We'll probably bring Pettitte back and he'll lose more than he wins.

I'm suddenly very pessimistic about 2009.

:please: calm yer yellow toothed self and come in off the ledge.

Through free agency and trades, we will at least get Burnett, Moose and solid upgrades at first (there's word Washington may want to move Nick Johnson in a salary dump  ) and center. Plus, we'll be clearing out the majority of the Soft Lesbians* ... I think we make the playoffs this next year and win the World Series the year after. I fully expect some of these young studs to surprise us and shine within the next 2 years. :peace:

* I think it's hilarious how we have a soft lesbian PinkCupid site who advertises on the Yankee Zone. No doubt they picked up "lesbian" keywords being used often on this site and somehow figured there were alot of them who post here! :laugh2:

What young studs? There are no young studs. Ian Kennedy is total garbage. Alan Horne, Jeff Marquez, Humberto Sanchez, Andrew Brackman, Dellin Betances, all garbage. Those are our "studs." We didn't sign our first round pick, who actually was a stud. Jose Tabata is gone. Austin Jackson didn't impress in AA. Juan Miranda is 32 years old. We have no offense in the minors besides a catcher who can't catch.

This farm system sucks. It was overrated because scouts expected Phil Hughes to be an ace of aces. He isn't, he totally sucks.

My boys Aceves and Coke for starters.

Plus Hughes, Melancon, Brackman, Sanchez, Betances, ActionJackson and a few other minor leaguers who I won't yet divulge. Some of this group will SURPRISE. Ya Gotta Believeeeee!
