Gotta love the way Jeter just grabs pine since the last game at the Stadium and his ol' buddy Girardi lets him sit there...

You wouldnt want to let your Captian's batting average fall down below .300 where it should be, right Joe?

This has been nothing but protetcing Jeter's overpaid ass so he gets a number that looks good and he gets to be a .300 hitter. BTW, the worst season from a .300 hitter I have ever seen, soft as used toilet paper.

Go make another Ford commercial, Dickhead.

Disgraceful years from Pettitte, Jeter, and Posada. Three guys that fans like MM, Matt23, and the rest of the sunshine brigade refuse to bash.

"Three championship mainstays, they know how to win!"

He probably won't have played Sunday night if it wasnt the last game at the Stadium. If you guys still care about BS stuff like that at this point in the season you need to simmer down.

Yeah it had nothing to do with getting hit on the hand last week.

He played in the final game at the Stadium after getting hit in the hand. He also came in for two at-bats in the 19-8 blowout of the Sox. He went 0-for-2, which dropped his average to .300 exactly. Don't act like that ain't the reason - THE MAIN REASON - he's sitting out. Girardi is trying to protect his average.

And what was funny was him, Pettitte and I-Rod laughing it up in the dugout in today's game. Because ain't sh*t sweeter than winning meaningless games after you've been eliminated from the playoff contention.

What are they suppossed to act like a member of the family died and be solemn stone faced in the dugout? If you were Jeter, getting paid that salary and getting to bang any girl in NYC whenever you wanted you wouldn't care either.

Which is excactly the problem, nobody on this team cares, it's pathetic. More pathetic, it seems 98% of the fans are willing to accept it. :-|

He came out because it was a blowout and they were going to win big anyway. His average still would've been .300 even if he got another at bat and didnt get a hit.

He came out because it was a blowout and they were going to win big anyway. His average still would've been .300 even if he got another at bat and didnt get a hit.

But he and Girardi couldn't risk that. Nor could they risk it in the two games that followed the blowout.

And it's not even a big deal. I wouldn't have brought it up myself, but there was already a post about it and people were defending it, so I chimed in. The big deal to me was that he was a .270s hitter for most of the season; including during the stretch when the Yankees had a chance. That he sat out after their fate was decided, it doesn't really matter. But don't act like him sitting had nothing to do with protecting his average. If A-Rod didn't have a few points to play with entering yesterday (he started at .304), I don't think he'd have gone in the afternoon game.

He actually only had one month where he hit under .270 and it was May when he hit .262. He hit .345 in August when I'm pretty sure we still had a chance but hey why use facts when they don't agree with your point?

Look I am by no means saying he had the kind of year you want to have out of Derek Jeter but the bottom line is the guy is 34 years old, had a much better year fielding whether you go by eye or any kind of fielding stats you want and still managed to hit .300. despite being banged up seemingly all year.

The fact that the mental midgets on this board will crush a player for not caring but ignore facts like he's been hurt and he's obviously on the decline because of his age is what makes Yankee fans look like kids who's parents cashed out a dot com.

Jeter's 08 season is actually a decent example of Batting Average being overrated.

He was under .300 most of the year anyway and everybody who watches most of the games knows it. It's a joke that people defend his putrid season because he played decently from about mid-August on, when we were already out of it. Maybe if he had given a sh*t from April-July we wouldn't have been playing catch up in August. He's not the only culprit, but it's disgusting that he gets a pass.
