On the day after Johan Santana saved the Muets season with a start for the ages, the pitcher we chose to keep instead of getting Santana makes his last start of the season, looking for his first win.

This will be the final Yankee game I watch this season, I may check in on Moose Sunday, but I won't waste a Sunday watching these slimy slugs.

Oh, what a treat! AJ Burnett is going for the Jays. I'll get to scout him again.

220 K's and 18 wins for Burnett. After a bad first half.

I want this guy.

What the hell was that!? Gardner tried to stretch a single into a double and gets thrown out by 15 feet, wasn't even CLOSE!! Same thing yesterday when he was thrown out at 2B by 20 feet!

What are they teaching these kids down in the minors? None of them can bunt. None of them can run the bases. None of them can do anything fundamentally correct.

At least Kay has the guts to call it foolish.

This game is boring me to death. I'm this close to shutting it off.

Hughes saving his best for last! :bc: :bc: :bc:

2-1 Yankees in the middle innings, I'm not even sure. It's the 5th or 6th.

As soon as I say that, he throws one of his patented looping curveballs that gets sent into orbit. :no1:

8 great innings for Hughes. 2-2 game, in a battle of future teammates!

Wow, the night I decide not to watch and Hughes turns in his first good performance of the year. Of course it happens when the games mean when absolutely jackshit other than extending our lead in the battle for third place.

Too bad the f*cking cumstain couldn't have done this all year. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come in 2009 and not another cocktease.

You should know it's a cocktease. In fact, you should've known he would pitch well in his last start just to tease you.

The velocity was typical Hughes. 89-91mph

He's not the power pitcher he was advertised and hyped up as being. People are going to have to learn to accept that. He needs to hit corners and not hang the curveball, then maybe he can be a decent starter. That's the most we can hope for.

Truthfully, I don't have high hopes for him at all. If we're lucking he'll be a good #3, maybe #2 (doubt it though). The only ones who still think he'll be some dominant ace are the stupid happy fans and 14-year-old girls who post dumb messages of encouragement on his blog.

Anymore.

Also 89-91 hasn't been typical of him for a while. He averages over 92. You are right though, he's going to have to be a Mussina type now. The cutter should help, we'll see.

How was the movement on the fastball? He may have been throwing lots of 2 seamers.

He hit 92 only twice last night according to Gameday. His other fastballs were below that.

Yeah, I noticed that. Lots of changeups and cutters too. Those two pitches must have been working for him.
