People talk Flair...Rhodes, Abdullah - but Tommy "Wildfire" Rich...bleed like a stuffed pig in almost every big match he had...He was BYFAR the biggest babyface in the South in the early 80's and that includes Steamboat...he was NWA Champ for a week in 1981 ...he "should" have been for better for much longer...however he was never in great shape - he did have potential and his appeal was second to none...

No retirement plans, minimal salaries, no health insurance, and living the life of luxury during their high times in their career. Word was Superfly Jimmy Snuka and Jake the Snake, among other legends, have wrestled for crack, coke, other drugs, and even sexual favors.

Wrestlers in the 70s and 80s were stupid juiced up morons that got taken advantage of. A mid-carder like Shelton Benjamin has made enough money to retire comfortably the rest of his life, and he isn't anything special. Guys like Orton, HBK, Hardy's, etc. are millionaires.

I'm not sure about today's mid-carders being taken care of though to be able to retire. They can have salaries in the 5 digits, and if they aren't getting merchandise revenue, they aren't that well off. Plus, wrestlers have to pay for their travels and sh*t, which shocked me when I heard it. Wrestlers still get taken advantage of to a certain degree. They are considered independent contractors, so they don't get any benefits either usually.

They do not have salaries in the 5 digits, what are you smoking? This isn't 1989. Shelton Benjamin makes over 300,000 a year. And he's a nothing mid-carder. Shad Gaspard was a nobody and WWE gave him a 90,000 a year contract to start, before he ever proved anything. These sad tales of sleeping in cars and eating tuna fish every day vanish once guys sign with WWE. As long as you are a smart person and have talent, you will be financially set.

You happen to be right about Benjamin making 300 K, but there are workers that make in the 50 K area. But you gotta consider the no benefits, having to pay for their travel and expenses, the nutrition to stay in the shape, and all that other stuff.

Ric Flair continued to wrestle because he wasn't financially that set due to his divorce. Sure, divorces take a huge chunk, but a star of his magnitude should still be able to manage.
