Cano, Pedroia or Kinsler?; I'd take either over Cano at this point

This article makes me sort jealous of the fact that we have Cano and not Pedroia or Kinsler. It also makes me wonder, with the way Cano has played all year, just how much of an influence Jeter exerts over his younger infield partner if any. Jeter seems the type to not really get in anyones grill or want to have any conflict at all.

Ian Kinsler and Michael Young are close

Jeter is about as important as Justin Christian these days. He is no captain.

Jeter was never a leader. That captaincy was no more than a reward for the dynasty and an act to solidify him as the face of the team; it's de jure leadership.

I don't care about how much he hustles and how he "plays the game the right way" and the "intangibles." People who don't have that in them don't get it by watching him. You'll hear that sh*t all the time, but it's not true. Cano might be the best example. He plays right across from Jeter, so you'd think, based on that crackpot cliched theory, that he'd emulate his captain. Poppycock. Athletes aren't that much different from people working in an office. You see that one kiss-ass who shows up a half hour early every day, stays a little late for no reason other than to be seen still in the office and tries to go above and beyond with everything. He doesn't really get more work done than everybody else, but sh*t, he can sure make it look like he's giving more effort. How many co-workers see that guy and try to be like him? They're more likely to whisper-giggle and say, "He tries way too hard. What a douchebag." The real leader is the rah-rah guy. Athletes, in moments of candidness and honesty, will say that. The leader doesn't have to be the star or the frontman, but the guy who gets them pumped up, keeps them focused and gets in people's faces when they f*ck up. Jeter is the guy who does his thing and gets along with everyone. That's cool, but don't confuse it with leadership. That's why Sheffield was right when he said, "Jeter isn't the leader. He's the captain." You tend to disregard what Sheffield says and the comment was unnecessary, but it made sense.

It looks like Kinsler is out for the year with a hernia.

Why aren't you writing for the Daily News? I want to see you take over Lupica's column. Shooting from the Lip will be no more. From now on it's "Spittin' from Popeyes."

You could end all your columns the same way. Last paragraph, you make a solid, undeniable point, then end it with a signature out line. Example:

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that's why Jeter will never be a true Captain or leader. And dat's the truff, nyuggah.

:lmao:

I wish. Lupica might be the most untouchable person in journalism. The Daily News bows to kiss the pinky ring. His own boss admits to not being able to tell him sh*t. And he got Lisa Olsen shitted on. At the Giants NFC championship game, the columnists and sidebar people all agreed on what stories they'd write. Olsen was gonna do Lawrence Tynes redeeming himself with the game-winner after f*cking up earlier. Lupica, halfway through, realizes that his chartered jet leaves at whatever time and he needs something quick. So he switches off his story and does the Lawrence Tynes because it's the easiest. Because he's lead columnist, Olsen had to acquiesce and write something fresh. By the time she finished that, she'd missed deadline. The editors were getting in her ass for being late and she threw Lupica under the bus. That was a no-no. The Daily News sent 35 people to Super Bowl and Olsen, who was a general columnist (translation: kind of a big deal), didn't get to go. Rumor is Lupica had a hand in that. So she quit. I read that in an article (can't remember where, might've been the Post) and "inside sources" say the article was pretty accurate. That little mother f*cker runs sh*t.

What's f*cked up is that he was actually right. He isn't the host, but he's got connections (he's either friends with or related to the producer) and enough clout to get people booted from Sports Reporters.

I didn't realize that. Has Lisa landed somewhere else? What was worse, getting screwed by Lupica, or getting slapped by Zeke Mowatt's junk?
