Elite XC....I just got Showtime Free on DirecTV for 6 months....I've watched EliteXC and while it is not UFC....I think it is pretty damn good....Wiki says it's #2 to UFC....what are your thoughts? Robbie Lawler is an asskicker as far as I can tell.... |

Nah, I like answering MMA questions. Elite XC has SOME talent, but it's basically only relevant because of a TV deal they got with CBS, Kimbo Slice, and Gina Carano. Kimbo Slice was an internet phenom that fought street fights and Gina Carano is a piece of ass woman's fighter. Slice looked absolutely dreadful in winning his last fight against a gimme opponent. Robbie Lawler is a solid 185LB fighter. He was beaten a few times in a row and kicked out of the UFC years ago, but he's certainly improved. I don't think he should have struggled with Scott Smith as much as he did though. The fights were exciting though, that's for sure. It'll be interesting to see if they can acquire more talent and merge with other non-UFC promotions to get more talent in for their TV cards. They have the advantage of that CBS deal to make some money. It's a question of whether they can improve their cards enough to continue to make money |

I know about Slice - I think he was a Bodyguard for some Porn dude Carano's father Glen was a Cowboys QB ... I saw the Smith/Lawler fights oddly at #2 was Anderson Silva in tghe crowd and they gave him and UFC props which blew my mind....you see I'm thinking in WCW/ WWE terms....is that wrong? Now , can Fedor fight for Elite? what's his fed as you said Affliction was a "Promoter and merchandiser not a body of MMA" Also -Chuck Liddell....color me unimpressed ....Jardine whipped his ass.... |

UFC is like the only one that has that cut-throat don't mention other fighters from other organizations mentality. The other organizations like to show and mention UFC fighters, probably because they are more recognized and it gives their organization credibility for having them there. Fighters from all organizations train in the same camps and are friends, so you'll always see fighters rooting on friends and watching fights in other organizations. They also corner fighters from their camp, ie UFC heavyweight champ, Noguiera, cornering his twin brother at the Affliction PPV. You'll see guys from other organizations corner UFC fighters, but the announcers and camera don't make a point to mention them. Fedor's contract is non-exclusive, I believe. UFC is the one organization that signs fighters and they can't fight elsewhere. If Elite XC paid some good money for Fedor, they could get him. But realistically, their HW division is weak. What would be the point? And they probably can't pay him the millions he gets per fight. Liddell looked really uninspired against Jardine, almost washed up looking. Then he fought Wanderlai Silva a few months later, which was a fight every fan, including the fighters, wanted to see, and he looked revitalized. He probably just didn't take Jardine seriously and it cost him. He's fighting Rashad Evans next month. That'll be an interesting test to see where he's at. |
