Every day I will be posting a classic match in pro wrestling history. You f*cks better watch em. My first match was the infamous eye popout match between Stan Hansen and Vader in Japan. The story behind this fight was it was two representatives from Japan's biggest organizations, New Japan and All Japan. Stan Hansen has always been a stiff working bastard. Apparently, he's blind in one eye, so he compensated by being extra brutal. Obviously, Vader was a stiff bastard as well. Well, in this match, Hansen beat Vader so badly that Vader's eye popped out. Vader said he's lucky his eye swelled up from the damage though, so the swelling kept it in place. Otherwise, he'd have one eye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmK8mt4QWBg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jfNP586vxs&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pf0LSzSook&feature=related |

That's brutal, how could you wrestle with your eye like that?! Vader is crazy. I would have ran out of the ring screaming for my mother. |

I believe Vader mentioned in his shoot interview that this match was the first in which he removed his mask, since he was swelling so much. The Japanese fans ate it up. It became a stable in his matches, removing the mask, as he started getting real hot and sweating. Then the WWE used him and had him in mask vs mask match with Kane, as if there was any doubt who was going to win that and as if Vader didn't show his face routinely. |

Wrestlemania 3. One of the greatest workers of all-time, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, against Macho Man Randy Savage. Considered by many wrestlers to be the best match of the 80s and one of the best of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Jk6rgNivE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK6D_x8tY50&feature=related |

Steamboat was the best in the business IMO. Ric Flair even thinks he would have been if he ever worked as a heel in his career. You can't find too many bad Steamboat matches. Him and Steve Austin had a bunch of good ones in the 90s as well. Apparently, shortly after this win, Steamboat asked for time off to be with his newborn baby. That pissed Vince off because they had big plans for him. They ended up having him lose the title to the Honky Tonk Man and basically job before he left. Then, when he came back in 91, Vince had him wear dragon wings and blow fire. |

I tried to find the Dusty Rhodes and Sting vs Road Warriors match that led to Dusty Rhodes being fired back in 1988. He was the booker and one of the most over performers of Vince's biggest competitor. So, when Rhodes came to the WWF, Vince basically tried to embarrass him by having him weak polka dots and having the fat black valet. Rhodes had so much charisma that he got the gimmick over though. Instead, one of the revolutionary Lightweight matchups. Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask. Dynamite Kid is considered by guys like Bret Hart to have been the best. As a kid, Chris Benoit, inspired to be exactly like him. Too bad he ended up being just like him out of the ring, as well as in the ring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMRBsQyKxjw |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbiA4sBMXnw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP9dap1gxqU&feature=related Steiners vs Bam Bam Bigelow and Vader. Always thought this was a fun match to watch. A great clash of styles. Bam Bam and Vader worked well as a team since they didn't like each other as rival big men. Scott in his day was quite an athletic, strong wrestler and Rick was used well with the team. |

Not a classic match, of course. But we all remember where we were when this Nitro took place. Who'd have thought they'd have went under so soon after some of wrestling's greatest success. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQeulEoYSZA |

McMahon's MO was to hire former NWA stars and whore them out....why? because of jealousy....he was taping bullshit matches in Allentown PA showing at Midnite on Channel 9 after Racing From Roosevelt.... while the NWA was the greatest outfit ever created...territory wrestling....I'm glad I lived to see it ...on TBS you had Georgia Championship Wrestling on another station we had Mid Atlantic Wrestling....and late nites on Spainish Channel we had some of the Greatest sh*t ever...CWF...from Florida...All under the NWA banner - also...on USA/MSG and early PPV and on ESPN after school we had World Class CW from Texas - also NWA....So in a week or 3 you could catch Flair make an appearance at all stops....IMO Georgia was the best....Flair v Kerry Von Erich , Flair v.s. Hacksaw Butch Reed in CWF ....Flair v Steamboat in Mid Atlantic....etc....v.s. Tommy Rich in Georgia....this is why Ric Flair is the greatest single performer the sport will ever know....yes Steamboat was great - however he didn't lust for the sport like Ric did/does.... Soon NWA ran into financial problems and Vince stole all the talent...he never developed sh*t...or ideas....also before the fall of NWA ...a superb federation was growing called UWF that we got on TBS on Sunday nites....unreal....headed by Jim Ross - Dr. Death , Dibiase etc...Vince raided them as well.... A shame Turner turned his back on NWA and TBS ...it would be a long while before Nitro took off again... |

Not a classic match at all, but a classic moment. You never see fans acting like that anymore. Now-a-days fans are more rowdy and Wimbledon than at WWE or TNA events. |

I can't get into TNA with that 6-sided ring. I watched one PPV, Lockdown, which featured every match in a cage. It was decent, but nothing great. Somoa Joe vs Kurt Angle was obviously good, but some of the sh*t just seemed like a waste of time, including a match between Billy Gunn and Roaddog. They have their young talent, but then they have their old guys none of us care about |

This is the 1st card I ever went to - 1st time NWA was ever in the Metro area and maybe the last? There may have been more matches May 29, 1984 - May 29, 1984 - Brendan Byrne Meadowlands Arena - East Rutherford, NJ 1. Invader I defeated Kabuki 2. Ron Garvin defeated Jake Roberts 3. Les Thornton defeated El Gran Apollo by countout 4. Dusty Rhodes defeated The Assassin 5. Ivan Koloff and Don Kernodle defeated Pez Whatley and Mark Youngblood 6. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Stan Hansen, double disqualification 7. The Road Warriors defeated Jimmy Valiant and King Kong Bundy 8. Carlos Colon defeated Tully Blanchard 9. Ric Flair small packaged Ricky Steamboat I may have went to a few WWF cards at Byrne after but not many ...I never liked WWF either. |
